Xbox One Console Thread

Genuine question: why are people still using optical, now HDMI supports it just as well? I haven’t used an optical cable in years.

The Samsung TV (KS7000) I use has a sound delay when passing through 5.1 sound via HDMI, in Game mode only. It’s a very specific bug that’s never going to get fixed given the age of the TV.

I’m disappointed that the Xbox Series X appears to have removed the optical output. It’ll mean I’m limited to stereo unless I buy a new TV or some different audio equipment.

Yes, that's it.

Worth going for the full thing though - there's an audio only download too.

This is a brilliant podcast! Listened to the first half of it this morning during my allocated “once a day escape the house” session and it flew by.

Some really interesting stuff / reveals (well they’re reveals to me) in it and I’m sure it’d prove interesting to anyone who’s into gaming :)

Just switched on my OG Xbox to find there's an update required.

Haven't switched on my One X in the other room yet. Both already had the new dash.

What's this one for, anything major?

(or I could just exercise some patience and find out for myself in about 10 minutes)

Is anyone having issues playing games that are on game pass?

None of my games will load. Just hangs on the opening screen  then says "something went wrong, the game took too long to load"

Tried a hard reset and no joy.

Edit:- I think my Xbox X might be fucked. It seems any game I try including disks takes forever to load or just fails.

Yeah that sounds like a HDD problem. You got an external to try?

Also: is Xbox Live slow as shit for anyone else this morning? That CoD update is going to take aeons at this rate.

No, but ever since the lockdown stuff spread across Europe (which may be a complete coincidence rather than Live acting up because too many are isolating simultaneously) I noticed achievements don't unlock for me until I quit the game (instead of just putting the console in sleep mode) and launch it again. Not really a problem because who cares about achievements, but weird nonetheless. Launching the game I'm currently playing from scratch often results in a bunch of achievements popping one after another.

Sony had mentioned slowing download speeds to ensure as many people had access, but Microsoft hadn't mentioned specifics of what they were doing IIRC.

Just bought the version 2 of the Elite controller. I've held off even though I'd wanted to buy the original pad ages ago. Reason being was the amount of people saying it was an awesome pad but was a bit shoddy in its build quality.

Bit late now, and I really should have googled beforehand, but didn't, has it ironed out the previous iterations problems?

@amc It’s a brilliant pad. A few people seem to have problems with the face buttons, but if you get a good one, it’s the best pad you’ll have ever used. It’s a big step up from the Elite 1.

Has anyone done the live gold to ultimate upgrade recently? Trying to get a friend to do it but want to make sure it still works as it did.

He does get the "1 month for £1 followed by £10.99" option so I'm assuming that would actually then convert all of his remaining months of gold but it's always a leap of faith!

As much as I adore it, I’m on my second Elite 2 and this replacement one had minor stick-drift out of the box. The first one developed drift after a few months. The replacement service is good but it doesn’t instil much confidence.

The most frustrating thing about the stick drift issue on any type of Xbox pad is that I'm sure it could be solved with just a software update, to allow you to slightly increase the dead zone at the stick centre.

I've replaced 7-8 analogue stick modules in otherwise perfectly fine controllers for myself and friends and it's a massive pita, each time requiring de-soldering of 14 tiny solder joints, taking care not to damage the conductive foil, and then re-soldering each joint.

That’s true. I was amazed to find there was no deadzone setting in the Accessories app for configuring pad profiles. The stick drift on my new pad is only noticeable in-game on the COD Warzone map, where the cursor drifts downwards, but it’s still unacceptable for an expensive new controller.

Increasing the deadzone to compensate would have zero impact on any actual games and would fix the issue entirely.

I've been having this exact problem. Hard reset always fixes it but it's bloody annoying

I have a hangover, please help. Am I able to stream the Xbox to my iPad, using it as a second screen? I’ve signed up for Insider but can’t seem to see the option anywhere. Am I being thick or is it not available?

ah just found this https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxinsiders/wiki/xgspreview

Hmm so am I right that I can’t do this on IOS at the minute?

Can you copy video files from a USB to internal storage?

I’ve converted 4k77 from an unplayable MKV to an MP4 but it stutters when running from a USB.

Ok, I’ve found the answer! Media player and VLC won’t play this but Kodi plays it perfectly in its original unaltered MKV state.

So it’s 4k77 and 4k83 weekend! Woop woop.

Got that, but isn’t it just for streaming?

You have to link it to a server to stream your films from. If you’ve got a laptop or NAS on the same network as your Xbox, you can use that. It’s really good if you’ve got a digital library of films.

I thought that’s how Kodi worked to be honest. It’s years since I’ve used it though.

@JPL Not sure if it can do that as well but Kodi just seems to be another media player that can handle whatever files the other players couldn’t.

I'm a recent XBOX convert, just wondering what the story is with region keys? If I was to buy a code for Forza 7 somewhere does it have to be for the correct region or does it matter? Cheers.

You would have to set up an account for that region to redeem it, I believe. You could then happily play the game on your main account on the same console. You can't just change your account region, redeem it and change back, though.

For example, I have a US account because I bought a US-only release and I can play it without any issues on my UK account. If I deleted it, though, I'd need to redownload from the US account. It doesn't add to my UK library.

Ok got it. So as I'm in Ireland I need an EU code right?

Hmm, I wouldn't like to say without knowing for sure. Sorry.

I think EU and UK codes are compatible (or maybe even the same thing) so I think you could use the same account if you were just using EU/UK codes, but I'd be tempted to get a €5 voucher to try before I went for anything more expensive. It's definitely the case on the Switch but that doesn't mean anything.

Hopefully someone else can confirm. Good luck.

Bought "a" code, doesn't say any region at all. I was led to believe it was EU. Fingers crossed anyway. Thanks.

Bit of a boring question this.

I'm a recent Xbox One X owner and I use the console a lot with headphones plugged into the controller late at night - this is rinsing AA batteries incredibly quickly.

Is there a specific plug and charge controller kit that is better than others? Or am I best off just buying some rechargeable AAs?
