Well I’m really fucking sorry, that’s how I remembered it working and I was trying to be helpful. Won’t bother in future.

The PS4 doesn't do that at all, you can go into network and tell it to go offline as well and still play single player games.

Err, that’s exactly what the PS4 does. If you remove the network cable or your ISP is down it just works, offline. By default.

Edit. Garwoofoo typed sign off instead of sign on. Perhaps that’s the source of the misunderstanding?

No, don’t let him bother you. You’re not allowed to say anything even remotely negative towards the PS4 or you’ll feel his wrath. Or get put on ignore in my case.

He’d be much happier In the PS5 thread telling people they’re shit at FIFA. .

Can you copy video files from a USB to internal storage?

I’ve converted 4k77 from an unplayable MKV to an MP4 but it stutters when running from a USB.

Is there an issue with audio through optical out on the One X?

I've tried it via my soundbar, via my TV, with two different cables (which both work with my PS4).

I just get no sound whatsoever.

If I run the audio via HDMI into the TV (which is then plugged into he soundbar via ARC HDMI) I get hideous audio lag.

TV and soundbar are both Sony and I get no audio issues with either my Sony 4K disc player or PS4 Pro.

Have you set the audio output to use optical out?

Yup.

The HDMI option is off but no matter what I select under optical (stereo, Bitstream) it's silent.

I'd look at what encoding you've used then on the file itself.

The PS4 lets you play games offline without going into settings and selecting “offline.” Which is what he said.

I think gooner misread it and pounced on him for slating the PS4 when he was actually saying it was better than the Xbox.

It looks fine, just stutters now and then which I’m assuming is because it’s not buffering fast enough from the USB.

Spent another 2 hours last night trying to get optical audio out of my One X.

Nothing I tried worked.

Any ideas?

I’m using optical audio from my One X , no issues here. You just set it up in the Audio section of the settings page and make sure the format you are using matches what your audio system supports.

This might sound silly but every problem I’ve ever had with optical audio has been because the cable hasn’t clicked in properly. Give it a good shove at both ends.

I use optical out of my Xbox no problem. Might sound obvious but check there's a red light coming out of the other end of the optical cable - they can be quite flakey.

Genuine question: why are people still using optical, now HDMI supports it just as well? I haven’t used an optical cable in years.

For me it's because I get a delay through HDMI the way my setup is wired.

I've ended up setting up the Xbox direct into the soundbar through HDMI and hooked up the PS4 Pro to the second 4k HDMI port on the TV for image and into the soundbar via optical for audio.

I think the TV is introducing lag for Dolby Digital and I can't figure out how to stop it.

Ah well, at least it's all working now.

I use it to play Spotify via Xbox One for when I want music without turning on my TV. I use regular HDMI otherwise.
