Xbox One Console Thread

If media only concerns itself with chasing ad revenue - the latest figures I can find from the US last year suggests Microsoft outspent Sony on marketing. Your theory does, however, explain all the hatred we see in the gaming media for Nintendo's output so maybe you're on to something.

Nintendo sold over 70m consoles last gen.

Xbox sold around 85 million last gen. Not sure what point you're making.

According to Facebook, yesterday was the one year anniversary of me getting my Xbox One. It's my only current gen console and I haven't regretted my purchase one bit. I have a handful of exclusives (half a dozen Forza titles) that were my reason for going with MS this time around and a few multi platform games. Between them, it's given me a lot of joy over the last year.

I'll also ask you a similar question I asked Revival. This forum was decidedly positive regarding Xbox last gen, much less so this gen. Why do you think that is?

I dont know why you ask me this, and I can't see how it is relevant to the current state of videogame production, as the goalposts have been moved so radically by Microsoft as to question if the industry will ever be the same again. 'Console generations' may be a thing of the past, at least for developers working closely with the company. Nintendo and Sony have a LOT of work to do to be able to provide the same kind of service to both developers and customers, as MS do right now.

It was covered by K above, and I dont think there is very much more to it. Maybe games like Last of Us and Uncharted attributed to a change towards the positive for Sony, while MS started to drag their feet with new exclusives. By that time Sony also had developed their online network on a comparable level to MS, a process which took them far too long. Or am I confusing that with the PS2, I was never relly into the 360 or Ps3 as much as I was with the Wii at the time. It was pretty much the 'Halo box' with no one else being able to match their online infrastructure. The PS3 never really recovered from Krazy 'Get a Second Job' Ken and the lack of trophies and other integrated developments of Xbox Live, in my view.

My problem here is that all of the recent hard work Microsoft has put in to advance their platform both in terms of hardware and software seemingly never happened in the eyes of some posters. These things have been covered in detail here and everywhere.

You wrote this before E3. Yet, despite dropping ze bomb with the X, and continuing throughout the year to launch new services, curating old titles and even bagging an exclusive for the surprise hit of the year, you haven't changed your tune one bit. Still going on as if nothing changed. Sony themselves has acknowledged something is not right at the moment, otherwise they wouldnt have fired Andrew House, the head of Sony who launched the PS4, PS4 Pro and VR. Hardly a vote of confidence in their current direction.

And your way of coming into Xbox threads goes like this:

"Look guys, this is how it is. Discuss."

Hardly the way to open up for a constructive conversation.

As for the current success of the PS4, I think Microsofts failure with the Xbox One launch contributed a lot to that, but I am not willing to admit that the playstation has better exclusives than the xbox currently. If you love Japanese games, sure. I am not very impressed with Uncharted in gameplay terms, and I dont have the patience for BB. The only games that I miss on the xbox are Yakuza, Ico and Persona. Whether or not the X will change the market share up in a radical way, remains to be seen. But I do think the audience that PS4 commands today, is as fickle as always and not something Sony should feel confident about. Things can change so quickly, as every new hardware gen has proven so far.

The best we can wish really is a balance between the current 3 major actor of the industry - ideally a 33/33/33 split - at least to the degree that they all have a 'good business' without too many fluctuations in budgets and workforce.

I have a PS4 Pro.

I had an Xbox One but barely touched it so know that this isn't for me.

I was sat in Starbucks today and a chap walked in with one of these in a GAME carrier bag and I couldn't help but feel a bit jealous.

Bloody new hardware desire!

Envious.

What a load of rubbish, the best games have been and always will be on PlayStation, Nintendo aside but there output is tiny.

I keep thinking I should get Xcom 2, but I haven't played the first one enough and I probably wouldn't play this either. Must resist...

Think it might be time to buy the Dishonored collection and Prey. The X patch for Dishonored 2 looks amazing, too.

The arguments about consoles are killing this thread. Take all this subjective bollocks elsewhere.

Maybe we should have an actual thread? Call it "The Console Wars : Battlegrounds" or something.

Maybe it would just sort it all out and people that way inclined would have a place to go... bit like Hamsterdam in The Wire season 3.

Wolfenstein AND The Evil Within 2 down by 50% in under a month. Bethesda are the new Ubisoft.

Square Enix are offended that you didn't mention them first. ;)
