Xbox One Console Thread

You're all absolutely right of course. I just remember how simple it used to be and pine for those days!

It hasn't really stopped my new console excitement though!

One question..... I've the console in a cupboard which has a back to it and closed doors (because of young kids). Is it ok to leave in standby mode like this do you think? Does it generate lots of heat?

For what it's worth, if it's the main console update that's needed, it's literally not possible to just not connect it to the interne and play.  I got my Bone last year just as we switched internet providers so we had no internet. In the end to get the console up and running I had to share my phone's network to connect and grab whatever it was the console needed. I realise for 99% of people this isn't an issue, but it did seem a bit odd that I couldn't even start the console without it connecting to the internet! Probably a hang back of the old always online system.

That was last year mind, it could well have changed now.

On the plus side, if you stick it in instant on mode once you're all set up, you should in theory, never need to see an update screen again. I only ever see them for disc based games these days. :)

It doesn't get super hot but that still sounds dodgy if it's going to be fully enclosed. Wouldn't recommend it.

Mine's in a cupboard along with the 360, Ps3 and Ps4 and is fine. I do have a USB fan that I sit on top of it though to blow down into the vents and a hole at the back of the cupboard to act as an exhaust.

When the boy plays (for marathon sessions) he constantly forgets to put the fan on though and we have never had a problem. It's more to quash my paranoia.

I recommend cutting a hole in the back of the cupboard. The missus won't like it, but I convinced mine by explaining that our house would BURN DOWN/EXPLODE if I didn't do it. You can't see it anyway, but if you leave a bit of space between the cupboard and the wall, you create a bit of breathing room for your precious equipment.

I already had to do a bodge job with a Stanley knife to be able to fit the console in - made a hole big enough for the power and HDMI cables to stick out the back. Maybe I should just make that a big bigger for more ventilation. And not tell my wife about any of this!

The only thing running really is the power brick whilst in standby mode so assuming it's not an S model that should be ok even if the brick is inside. I wouldn't recommend that whilst it's switched on though.

Hasn't anyone here picked up Valley then? I must admit I bought it on a whim, not expecting much as it only costs £16. But I'm really enjoying it.

Not a fan of this bloke at all really, but he does do a good job of explaining much better than I could, just how nice the game is.

Don't do this @Bushtopher

Get all of your installs and updates out of the way, set your console to Instant On, and (almost) never be bothered by an update again. They are all done in the background while the console is in standby.

Any purchases you make, say, on your phone via the Xbox app while at work will start to download straight away while your console is on standby

I saw this on the store last night and didn't really give it much of a glance, that video however really sells it well I might pick this up.

Following on from @Pavey thread in A&F

I've added a link to this post (http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?/topic/263152-the-xbox-one-thread-jump-ahead/&page=1260#comment-10924034) to explain the process of buying games from different regions. If the process changes then either ask the thread owner to change link to a new post or press report button and ask mod to change.

I'll leave it to you guys to update the instructions if needed.

Another noob question..... I bought Doom today (yay!). Put the disc in expecting an update and wanted to get it started so I could play this evening.

It looks like it is downloading 50gb of data! That can't be right, can it? Have I inadvertently tried to copy the whole game from the disc or something? The 500gb storage isn't going to last long at this rate!

Speaking of which.... is it easy to upgrade/expand the storage (this is an original model, not the S)?
