Just to confuse matters, there's actually 4 standard pads. I have a special edition Forza pad, which is now just under a year old. It's obviously the new pad ETH the 3.5mm jack, but also the textured back of the elite and the impact triggers. My standard issue 2015-mid 2016 doesn't appear to have impact triggers, I don't think.

Textured back will probably just be a limited edition pad thing. Impact triggers have been in all pads since launch. It was a major feature. I think your other pad is faulty!

Ah, perhaps I haven't played a game that uses them on the other pad. I had assumed it was a new feature because it was called out on the box. Or possibly the advert on xbox.com, because now I can't find it.

I'm pretty sure they were called impact triggers, though.

Edit- now I feel like a looney, because it's not in any of the emails or order history, and the product page no longer exists! I swear blind it was mentioned like something new, whereas it sounds like they may well have made a big thing of it having an HDMI port :)

One of next month's Games with Gold is a new, as yet unreleased RPG:

Got a bit of a Grandia/Skies of Arcadia vibe to it judging by the battles/environments..

This looks awesome, turn based, RPG goodness.

Nice graphical style, although I'm not fully on board with the character design yet, but if it plays well and has a good story, this should be pretty awesome :)

I don't know about you guys, but I only buy my consoles based on how they look.

Well, I'd argue that the S being smaller, quieter and it running XB1 and 360 bc games slightly better could be more than enough reason to buy the S if you don't already have a One. That it looks nicer is just a nice bonus, no?

Forza Horizon and Mirror's Edge on 360, That RPG and Ass Creed: China on the Bone.

Score.

Shamefully I haven't played FH much - as I recall just the demo (if there was one) :o FH2 is amazeballs so assuming this is BC I am very much looking forward to it.

Yeah, it was just a joke! Everything you've said, plus the inclusion of a 4K BluRay player definitely makes it a good purchase. I'm not sure how they're going to make it quieter than the current model though. Does it turn your room into a vacuum?

I assumed it was quieter since the main thing I hear spin up on my old Bone is that ginormous external power brick...

My new controller turned up.... it refers to impact triggers on the back of the box.

My Xbox One has turned up too. My god it's frustrating getting a new console nowadays. Update. Update. Update. Update. I'm not going to actually get to play anything this evening it seems!

Doesn't help that I only get 5mb - max connection speed possible where I live despite being in zone 2 in London!

The initial disappointment of updates and lengthy installs has been felt by us all. Some allow it to tarnish their experience with the machine and can't forgive it, others learn to organise their gaming around it and accept it as the norm. It largely depends on the game you choose to install first. If it's Halo 5 you're getting a massive initial patch and the best part of a year's worth of monthly updates, Other games are less severe.

Disconnect internet, put in disc, play.

Wouldn't advise that for many games these days, purely because for the majority there's either loads of content released, or performance & bug squashes in patches.
