That's really weird.

I've had a console update pushed once when I was mid game. I've never heard of "downloaded but not installed" on Xbox One.

yeah, spotted that last night:

games

apps

ready to install

updates (and a preview update within)

I thought it might be because we switched the bone off at the wall after a power cut the other day, as with the "it was on this morning" post earlier.

is my bone dying?

A new game from Ex-Fable (Cavalier) and Rime devs (Tequilaworks). The Sexy Brutale.

Set in a mansion, the player takes on the role of an elderly priest who observes masked ball party goers, all in danger of being killed. The ball is on an endless Groundhog Day-style time loop.

Puzzles are grounded in going back in time and saving the lives of the guests. As the game progresses, the priest accrues occult skills in order to aid his mission.

I'm finally joining the next gen and getting an Xbox One - yay! I'm getting one with a Kinect (second hand) - are there any Kinect games worth getting? My wife is keen in a dancing game, but I've not really kept up at all with Kinect games.

As for 'proper' games, I'm most looking forward to Doom - any other recommendations?

From what I've seen, FRU is the only Kinect game of note. There is also D4, but Kinect is optional in that one.

My favourite xbone game so far is Killer Instinct. I have DAYS of playtime logged in that. The multiplayer of Halo 5 is also excellent if you're into FPS games.

Dance Central - free download then pick up the tunes you want

Kinect sports gets a hard time but if you have kids it's a great game to play with them.

One of next month's Games with Gold is a new, as yet unreleased RPG:

Got a bit of a Grandia/Skies of Arcadia vibe to it judging by the battles/environments..

How do you know this?

Go back a few pages, and someone made a great list of all of the games (not just exclusives) worth getting.

As for Kinect, to be honest it's kind of petered out. Xbox Fitness is half decent (and free). Not sure what else there is.

So what's the deal with controllers? Has there been an updated version released? Saw something about the bundle with a controller and play and charge kit containing an old version of the controller - is that right? Is there much of a difference?

4 official versions of pads.

Elite pad.

3 standards:

Launch - 2015: Standard pad that needs custom adapter for headsets etc.

2015 - Mid 2016: 3.5mm port added to pad for universal headsets, updated bumpers to make them easier to press.

Mid 2016: ControllerS. New grips on the back of the pad & added bluetooth.

Thanks..... is the S worth getting then? Was the grip on the originally controller particularly bad? What does the Bluetooth offer?

Sorry for all the questions - back in the day it was much easier. Buy a SNES. Buy controllers. Enjoy!

Dunno about the S. I don't have one. If you are getting one soon, I don't see why not. £250 with Fifa 17 next month. If you want one asap, you can get a normal console cheaper.

Bluetooth on the new pads just allows you to use them with your PC

The original controller has terrible shoulder buttons, especially bad if you want to play something like Dark Souls. - but the 2015 revision is pretty much perfect and the improved dpad (compared to the useless lump of plastic on the otherwise fantastic-for-its-time 360 controller) makes it also perfectly suited for your PC gaming needs, both modern and retro, if you also have one of those. Can't recommend it enough. The white S one is even better, feels better overall.

The launch one had the "terrible"should buttons. (I actually really liked the way they were built so you didn't have to taker your hands off the triggers, you could knock them with your knuckles).

The 3.5mm pad introduced the new bumpers that were easier to press from any angle.

Yeah, that's what I said but I pressed submit reply too soon. The 2015 version was pretty much perfect though and my favourite controller so far until the White S controller came along :)

Just to confuse matters, there's actually 4 standard pads. I have a special edition Forza pad, which is now just under a year old. It's obviously the new pad ETH the 3.5mm jack, but also the textured back of the elite and the impact triggers. My standard issue 2015-mid 2016 doesn't appear to have impact triggers, I don't think.
