Xbox One Console Thread

- on games available on both consoles - is there a big difference in frame rates and graphics?

To my eyes the differences are negligible.

- the Xbox One is getting outsold 2:1 by the PS4 - is there still a big large online presence on Xbox One (for example Halo 5)?

Yes, no problems getting games. Even Titanfall and COD ghosts, I still managed to find games straight away.

- for owners of both systems - is the Xbox One controller better for FPS and racer games?

Personally I prefer the One controller. The triggers are much nicer.

- what is the future looking like for Xbox One exclusives?

We don't know much of the 2017 release schedule but Sea of thieves and Crackdown 3 are hopefully going to deliver.

I suppose my only hesitations on making the jump are:

1 - it varies, but with a typical home set up rather than a performance lab its usually pretty marginal.  No complaints from me on this score and I own a PS4.

2 - not my area

3 - yes, a thousand times yes.

4 - the AAAs will all be PC / Xbox "play anywhere" releases.  Looking good for the next 8 months or so with Forza Horizon 3, Re-Core, Gears 4, Scalebound and Sea of Thieves on the way.  Crackdown 3 might appear at some stage.  MS don't tend to showboat their more distant games.

I have both, PS4 is my main console (because Destiny) but I do have quite a few games across both platforms.

Gfx wise is varies, BF4 is vastly better on PS4 - not just  minor undetectable difference but a very obvious one however the stars wars shooter is very hard to tell apart.

I aways get a game on Titanfall, batters etc so don't see that as an issue as still a huge user base.

Pad wise, Xbone pad sneaks it - my ps4 pad with xbone sticks is better than stock IMO but I still very slightly prefer the Xbone pad.

Thanks for the answers guys - sounds promising! Guessing the 2:1 / online numbers comments has been covered a lot in this thread

Besides Halo 5, what Xbox One exclusives have already been released that are worth picking up?

I'm going travelling in 12-18 months and will be selling everything before I go - so just need to fill up gaming time until then. With no more Last of Us or Uncharted coming out in that time, it will be a toss up between what's already out for Xbox that may be of interest as well as what is due out (e.g. Forza Horizon and Gears of War).

The main downside of being a Boner is game updates. It's not uncommon to fire up your favourite game to discover a multiple Gig update required before you can play.

In the last month I've had to manage 10+Gb updates for several titles that completely hog my rural connection.

It's a far more inconvenient aspect to ownership than any of the concerns listed.

On the plus side you're far less likely to have your account hacked, face excessive false purchases and be locked out of your game collection than if you're a Sony gamer.

Stick your console in low power mode. Updates download over night when the machine is turned off. If you can't do that, the new OS has an Updates tab that shows you anythign that requires an update.

Seriously, this isn't even a problem anymore.

This is true though. And if that shit does happen, Microsoft will actually help you. Rather than telling you to get fucked like SONY do.

So if you buy a game, just wait to the next day to play it?

The closed beta is this month, Did you sign up for it?

--------------

Probably another half assed Activision port but Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is out tomorrow (Aug 9th) unfortunately looking like it's going to be a stupid £40 price point though.

Only showing up on the Aussie store so far:

So, I'm seriously considering making the jump from PS4 to Xbox One, especially with the release of the Xbox One S.

I was thinking about how much use my 1tb c chassis PS4 gets in comparison to my launch bone today.  The PS4 is only really getting any usage when the Nephew wants to play Fifa 16 so he's not draining my Xbox One pads!

It's weird because my brain knows the the PS4 is quiet, fast, controller battery seems to last longer and sometimes has higher resolution visuals (not so much these days) but I instinctively fire up the Xbox.  When asking myself why this is the case I'm paranoid that there may be a bias on my part after ardently defending the Xbone on it's launch and being an early adopter but I'm hopeful that isn't the reason :hat:   The home screen on the PS4 is so sterile and devoid of personality that it turns me off using it for anything other than a games machine.  In contrast the Xbone home screen is colourful/easy to navigate and I still use the "Xbox go to my games and apps" or "Xbox go to Youtube" voice commands to get to where I need to go.

If my Xbox dies soon (the warranty has run out so it's certainly due!) I can see myself getting a replacement straight away rather than changing gaming machine preferences out of duress.

The Xbox controller is absolutely superior though ;)

Great list, thank you :)

Doing some quick calculations and I can get the Xbox One S (500GB) with 5 games (Halo 5, Gears of War Ultimate Edition, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break and Rise of the Tomb Raider) for around £340, which isn't too bad at all - especially with the money I'll get for selling my PS4 and games.

So very tempted.

Is it possible to expand the storage on the S as easily as the original Bone? I mean by just plugging in a USB 3 drive? Because you'll fill up that 500GB in next to no time, especially if you go Gold with (usually) 4 free games each month.

How big is the average game download from Gold? I have PSN Plus at them moment on my 500GB PS4 and am nowhere near to filling it!

On the topic of controller battery life - is it an idea to get the play & charge kit?

1:- How long is a piece of string? :P

2:- Buy 4 rechageable batteries and a charger, keep two charged whilst the others are in the controller.
