Live is stackable as long as you use pre-paid codes.  If you last paid with a credit/debit card then you need to remove that card from your account (maybe change live sub to not auto-renew) and then you can add as many pre-paid cards as you want up to 5 years I think.

Did anybody preorder BF1? Yesterday I got 2 xb messages each with codes for one month of EA Access. Something for nothing.

Yeah. I got my codes a week after e3.

Got mine not long after pre-ordering, intend using it a month before BF1 so I can play it early.

This new OS update can't come soon enough. I do nothing special with my machine: stable OS, only playing two games for the last few weeks. I tried to login to Skype today, think I used it a week ago. Quits back to dash upon sign in. Hard restart machine, Skype does the same. Have to reinstall Skype to get it to stay online. Bit frustrating.

Bought Pac Man 256 over the weekend and haven't been able to play anything else, it's absolutely brilliant. I had it on my phone and didn't really click with it but this must have been to do with the swipy controls, using a controller works so much better. Possibly my favourite thing about the game is the way the dots count up if you eat them continously ontil you hit 256, if you miss a dot the counter resets so you really have to plan your routes around the maze. The way the dot eating sound effect changes pitch as the number gets higher is perfect.  It's such a wonderful play for 5 minutes (which turns into an hour) score attack game. Well worth £3.99

New trick if your xbox won't boot up - apparently has been in there since build 1603:

Quote

Your console is not bricked you are fine.

No need for the USB recovery either - since the 1603 build you can self recover via this cool method

Try this:

Hold down the power button on the front of your Xbox One console until it fully powers down, unplug the power cord, and wait 30 seconds. Please note the console must be fully powered down; the next steps will not work if the console is powered on from connected standby.

Plug the power cord back in.

PRESS the POWER Button then Hold down the Bind button (located on the side of the console next to the USB port) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console next to the optical disc slot), continue holding down Bind and Eject until you hear a second “power up” chime.

Then SELECT Reset this Xbox - This Troubleshooter takes the User to a page that allows them to select full reset or reset but keep content (this allows you to keep your installed games and settings!)

Yeah so I tried redeeming one of those EA Access codes they sent me for 1 month. Instantly get an email telling me "we're sorry you've cancelled your subscription" sort of thing followed by confirmation of 1 months sign-up. Fuck sake. Fortunately it turns out it was due to expire 1/8/16 anyway so they'll refund me 5 pence or whatever I guess.

I had to do that recently. Machine wouldn't boot, just gave me an error. After a few attempts it gave me the option to reset. Only took 10 mins too. I remember the old days when it would take an hour & you'd have to re-install everything.

Did Beyond Good & Evil ever get the inverted camera patched in? I wanted to play it way back when it was ported to 360, but I couldn't get my brain around the controls.

"How exactly do you think Microsoft is locking down the PC to make it a closed platform?

There are two programming interfaces for Windows and every app has to choose one of them. Every Steam app - every PC game for the past few decades - has used Win32. It's been both responsible for the vibrant software market we have now, but also for malware. Any program can be a virus. Universal Windows Platform is seen as the antidote to that. It's sandboxed - much more locked down. The risk here is that, if Microsoft convinces everyone to use UWP, then they phase out Win32 apps. If they can succeed in doing that then it's a small leap to forcing all apps and games to be distributed through the Windows store. Once we reach that point, the PC has become a closed platform. It won't be that one day they flip a switch that will break your Steam library - what they're trying to do is a series of sneaky maneauvres. They make it more and more inconvenient to use the old apps, and, simultaneously, they try to become the only source for the new ones.

Given that Steam is so widespread and popular, how could Microsoft truly win that battle, in terms of games at least?

Slowly, over the next 5 years, they will force-patch Windows 10 to make Steam progressively worse and more broken. They'll never completely break it, but will continue to break it until, in five years, people are so fed up that Steam is buggy that the Windows Store seem like an ideal alternative. That's exactly what they did to their previous competitors in other areas. Now they're doing it to Steam. It's only just starting to become visible. Microsoft might not be competent enough to succeed with their plan but they are certainly trying.

isn't it the case that Microsoft is simply mimicking Apple's model, given how lucrative it's proven to be for software distribution?

Sure, that's the motivation. They're trying to copy Apple's model, but they realise you can't just flip a switch. It has to be achieved in small step changes."

From this month's Edge interview with Tim Sweeney.

Tim Sweeny seems a bit of an idiot. This comment got me though, what areas is he talking about?

A huge Summer Spotlight banner is up now on the Xbox Store. The one last year started on July 29th through to August 31st and had over thirty new games so hopefully a 2016 montage vid will pop up soon. Clicking the link in the store just brings up an error for now.
