Xbox One Console Thread

I thought the consoles and PC were all so similar these days that porting wasn't a big deal? What's with all these indies coming out on PC plus only one console if there's apparently no exclusivity in place?

Still takes time and effort to get it certified for each console. You still need to do specific things to make sure the game runs on each platform (button prompts being different, different logos, different ways of having to interact with online services. The core game might be easy to port technically but there's a crap load of differences that have to be taken into account and sorted out before you are certified.

House is noisy so had to put my head right up to the Xbox, but there's definitely a whine of sorts from the power brick when in instant-on mode. I also noticed that the XB1 had a fan going and had some mild heat venting, but it disappeared a few minutes later. I guess that was the low power mode fetching updates or something?

Can't believe I haven't used this before, though. It powers on almost like a tablet and Battlefront was still running. Heh.

What makes you think there's no exclusivity in place? Timed exclusivity for indies is a thing these days. See Rocket League and the Witness for recent high profile examples. Everything's always NDA'd up so it can be hard to be sure but whenever something is out on one and not the other it's likely a deal has been struck. When they say something vague about how it may come out on other platforms in the future it seems extremely probable. Particularly when it's on a third party engine like Unity (as I believe is the case with Firewatch) so porting would be simple.

The Witness doesn't have exclusivity. Blow said on his blog that it was just a practical decision to launch on one console. Given the resources, it would be on Xbox One as well already.

That he dared to insult Boozy's Microsoft.

Eurogamer just published an article about lots of Xbox fanboys crying at an exclusive (Quantum Break) now being available on PC. Apparently it devalues their purchase or something. Pretty sad that they actually dislike other people being able to play the same game as them without having to invest in the same hardware.

Pretty much yeah. Jumped into bed with the PS4 and slagged off the Bone at every opportunity for 3 years now says he'll bring his game to it after seeing millions of dollars in "lost sales" because of PC piracy. Fuck Jonathon Blow.

You just made that all up.

I'd love to play the Witness on my Xbox, so I hope he's made enough money to deem a port viable. I'm also not bothered that people will get to play Quantum Break on PC, but all the talk of PC specs in the QB thread is a bit boring.

Is Play Asia the best place to be pre-ordering Raiden V or is there somewhere better?

You could change your system location to Japan and buy it from the JP Xbox store if you wanted it digitally but yeah if you want a physical copy with the first print ost then Play-Asia is the best bet.

Raiden V at Play-Asia - Region Free

With a bit of luck the other two shmups should be out this year too, Natsuki Chronicle from Qute and Shooting Love Trilogy from Triangle Service.
