Xbox One Console Thread

My XB1 no longer automatically signs into Live. On the right on the home screen, where you normally get 3 tiles about gold etc., there's a single tile saying connect to live. Clicking it takes me to some "test your connection" screen, where after a few seconds it connects to Live. When I return to the home screen, that area on the right is just blank, no tiles at all.

I've changed nowt, other than add the Kinect, but it's worked fine since I got that.

Also, iPlayer doesn't work (some error about it being unavailable, code 01100), although it works fine from my PC, so not the DNS.

Would like to fix this sign in thing, though. Any ideas?

Also, what the hell is going on here?

My connection (27mbps, according to the detailed network screen) is incapable of downloading 54gig in an hour, and besides I was sitting with my lad streaming thomas the tank engine from PBS. 1-2 was a bit of iPlayer and 2-3 Battlefront. Also, month to date is 54.6gig, and there's no way we've only used .5 gig in the 17 days prior to this.

Since talking to XboxSupport on twitter, I've power cycled and now it'll still ask me to sign in when I power on, except after a few seconds of me doing nothing it will sign in itself. I still don't get the 3 tiles down the right, though. Something is obviously screwed up.

Edit-

I've been on twitter with ms support, trying all their suggestions (mostly them wanting info until he suggested I remove my profile). It's actually worse now. It will be signed out at boot, then sign me in a few seconds later. However those 3 tiles appear. Also, Community, One guide, and Store are all blank. Looks like they're referring me on to phone support people.

Meanwhile, I changed to UK, redownload iPlayer, back to US and it's still broken, error 01100. I hope that's just the BBC is broken, because it worked fine earlier today.

Just in case, I disabled all of the kinect sign in stuff, on the off chance that caused this. No change.

If I have to reformat, what can I keep via an external hdd? Really don't fancy downloading games again, not to mentioning signing in to a dozen streaming apps.

My Xbox One corrupted my profile when I switched it off while it was booting up, and the effect of that was that it also refused to sign me in. Deleting my profile from the Settings menu and adding myself as a new user again fixed the problem. All my game saves re-synced from the cloud when I booted the games up for the first time.

"Inside my Radio" is on the cheap list this week, £6 down from £12, bought it this morning and thoroughly enjoying it, little rhythm action platformer, lot's of fun for the money :)

** EDIT ** I'll take that back, it WAS lot's of fun, but I've finished it already :(

Sorry, that wasn't my issue, although Live tends to be faster than Live for me. My issue is that my machine seems to be screwed up, or at least the OS. Just noticed pinned tiles don't appear for a while after I'm logged in now. I think it just needs formatting, so I'm cleaning off a drive to make some space to backup games.

That's already on the bc list isn't it? I have it since they gave it away free with gold.

Yeah they added it last month but I missed it on gold free and never owned it digitally. Now with the new dash update suddenly I have it ready to install.

You can safely ignore the ping being so high - the test hits MS servers in Seattle. It doesn't explain the upload/download though.

Amazing. I spend ages clearing off a USB hdd so the XB1 can format it, move a load of digital games to it and factory reset the XB1. At first, it seems to have worked - I'm signed in and the 3 tiles down the right of the home screen are there. Pinned tiles appear immediately.

Reboot and it's back to how it was - doesn't immediately sign me in, does so a few seconds later, but then pinned tiles don't appear. Community, OneGuide and Store tabs are literally blank. What the fuck? Is this the Kinect doing it? That's the only thing I've added recently. I've tried turning Kinect sign in on/off. I don't want to leave it on magic sign in, I always customize so that purchases are behind a pin number.

Gah.

edit - if I switch account, it all suddenly works. It's only during first boot. And chat support don't have a clue either, they're having me remove all accounts, power cycle, unplug, etc. I factory reset it earlier! Good grief.

Well, after 90 minutes of faffing with the console, he checked my account and noted in on the preview program. However, I never actually joined it from the console, and an OS version check on wiki shows I'm on the public release. However, he had me post on the official forums (didn't say which to use) asking I be added to the preview program so I can give feedback. What?

Here's the funny thing. Due to not immediately signing into live, tabs, pins, and the adverts are broken. If I switch accounts and back to mine, it's immediately fixed. No lag connecting to anything.

I'll power cycle the modem and router, but I doubt it's that, given everything above. Really fucking frustrating, particularly after getting a kinect and bringing it down to the main TV to use it as the primary media device.

Apparently, my work around is power up, change account, change back, use Xbox. Great.

Does the same thing, so it's not account related.

Edit- predictably, power cycling the modem and router did nothing. This is a fucking ridiculous issue.

Edit - right, help me out here. I'll post it all to the MS forum, but assuming they can't figure it out I need a plan B.

Things to try:

- WiFi instead of wired (which would be absurd, the router is literally next to the Xbox)

- different router, could try it at the in-laws

- different ISP, will be difficult, everyone has the same cable company around here (plus, while I can try another, I can't change)

- wait for next update?

- Google DNS or OpenDNS? Currently set to Unlocator, but same issue with my ISP's DNS

Just looking at the settings, there was an update recently, I'd forgotten about that. So that and the kinect are the only recent changes.

Oh, and the wife reckons the 360 Slim takes longer to sign in these days. I reckon there's something to that, because I noticed the kid's 360 does that too, spending ages with a spinning circle until the dash loads.

I wonder do you do Xbox home share/swap with someone and maybe they downloaded Reach before, that would explain it.

I had a similar thing with Rare Replay, turned out my mate had bought it ages ago and a dashboard update made it show up on my list.

@ TehStu When it signs you in but the tiles are blank, what happens if you do the "both triggers and Y button" reset thing?

My Xbox 360 takes an age to sign in as well these days so I wouldn't think that has anything to do with your issues to be honest.

Aha. Yes I GS with my son he could've picked it up - I'll need to check.

Confirmed it was game sharing.

I've just updated my secondary Xbox to the latest preview build and it has signed in exactly how TehStu describes with no pins or store/community etc so I wouldn't waste time faffing around it's something their end. Hazards of taking part. Just FYI this one is wireless the wired one hasn't exhibited this behaviour.

I've used report a problem to submit it as a fault and attached a screenshot for them.

Edit: Now the home button on the controller is completely disabled

Edit edit : one hard reset later and everything is back to normal with all pins/tiles/sections present. That's with it set to auto signin as me.

Didn't know that was a thing, I'll give that a try, thanks.

@ TehStu - Is your xbox set to auto sign in an account, if so try not having any accounts sign in at power up. See if manually signing in makes a difference

I've tried various permutations. No auto sign in, auto sign in, kinect sign in, etc. Even if no account is currently signed in, the XB1 still tries to contact Live, it seems. That's the bit that's failing, whether there's an account signed in or not (and irrespective of whether that account is Gold or not). There's nothing I can do to force it to connect, either. If I click the big "Connect to Live" tile on the right, it'll take me to the network settings screen and show there's no connection. Just sitting there watching the screen, it'll connect after a few seconds, like you've just plugged the network cable in or something.

Yoshi, funny you should have the same issue under different circumstances. My account says I'm on the preview, but my machine runs the latest stable build. I'll just report it to their forums and leave it for now then, must be an odd issue that's tricky to replicate.

Have you tried manually pulling the latest update from settings->system? I'd maybe try that and also try booting up the dash preview app and see what's in there about updates and registration status of the console.

Rather than report it on the forums use the option on the console - when you hold the button to get the switch off option its on the right hand side that way they'll get a diagnostic file with the report
