Xbox One Console Thread

Picked up ori in the blind forest because it was £8. I was a so,utterly loving it until I got to the bit where you have to outrace the water in the tree. What a horribly shitty piece of games design. I know it's making you use all your skills you've unlocked until that point, but it feels horribly floaty and unfair where you need the controls to be ridiculously precise. Spent an hour trying to do it and have given up. Will try it again tomorrow, but otherwise it's been deleted.

I struggled and struggled and struggled.

So I left it for a day or two, came back to it and nailed it in a few tries.

Installed the Xmas Xbox late last night. Controller is nice. It was good that a smattering of 360 games showed up like old friends. Took an absolutely age to update and install everything. I found the UI confusing: as an example it took me an absolute age to figure out how to get to my list of installed games and my download queue. Maybe I'll play something today!

Just wait until you try and find the settings ;)

You should be grateful you weren't exposed to the old dash!!

Quick shortcut to your stuff right trigger pull and press A.

Home button move left on the left stick settings at the bottom.

Still not great but a big improvement over the old one...

You just press start for settings.

LT/RT navigate vertically and LB/RB navigate horizontally.

Start no longer works for settings?

Press left on D pad once. It's 2nd from bottom on the black strip (friends, parties, messages, notifications, settings and snap an app)

Some great games making their way from PC there - Gone Home, The Banner Saga and Dungeon of the Endless are all brilliant, brilliant games. I've also heard very good things about Lovely Planet and Rebel Galaxy, but I've not played them.

Gone Home is ace. Played it on PC a while ago and managed to finish it the same night. Short game but a really nice experience.

Yeah, there was a debate over if it even was a game but I don't mind either way.

What it WAS was a lovely way to spend an evening experiencing a story. The mechanics seem almost irrelevant.

Almost certainly nonsense. Splitting their hardware base would be suicidal on Microsoft's part. That twitter account you quoted is from the same guy that was convinced, amongst other crazed speculation, that the Xbox One has a second discreet GPU which MS simply hasn't turned on yet.

There are a few people in the thread with this stance:

They don't seem to be able to comprehend that a potentially split user base where people with original machines not being able to run games optimised for a different spec might be a problem.

It would be suicide for MS if they released a new hardware spec.

I'm trying to imagine a way that they could make it work and each time all I can imagine is a lot of pissed off people.

I don't think a hardware upgrade at this stage could help them on sales. They're doing well compared to last gen, but they've lost this one to Sony's juggernaut. Better concentrating on the next gen for a proper fight back.
