Xbox One Console Thread

Couldn't believe how pathetic the Xbox handled Live being down for pretty much 2 nights in a row for me. I wasn't even trying to play a game was the most frustrating thing.

First night the service issue said something about purchase and content usage being effected.

All I was trying to do was watch a bluray and the thing kept closing the app with error code 0x87de0017. Went into offline mode and was all sorted. Never really had issues like this before with live so thought nothing of it

Second night was planning to watch American Sniper on Now TV this time the service issues was Live core services and social and gaming. (What this has to do with using Now TV i will never know.)

Youtube worked fine so there was an internet connection, I could view my friends list and see people playing Destiny and yet I couldnt even use Now TV error code 0x87de0017 again. Had to use the PS4.

Pathetic? How would you suggest they manage DDoS attacks Barry? What is the answer?

Yes it is entirelty pathetic that I couldn't use Now TV, nor bluray player because Live was having issues.

The console just closed the application while other applications continued to function like Youtube.

But why should we have to go offline to use apps that aren't using the internet 99% of the time? Shouldn't their default behaviour be to stay offline anyway? If Live was down, I'd still expect to be able to watch a blu ray or the tv without having to shift into a specific offline mode.

How's the One for overheating? I want to stack a virgin TiVo box on top of it in a fairly enclosed unit, only the fronts open.

Actually I want to stick it in here.

At least 50% of the top of the console is the main vent and fan. Don't stack shit on top of it.

If you read my earlier post I did. Why should I need to?

Because the app probably uses one of the services that was getting hammered. It's hardly rocket science.

As for WHY a Blu-Ray app needs to use the authentication services and YouTube doesn't, fuck knows. Maybe so it can link what your watching to your profile so if anyone wants to know what your doing they can see you're watching a Blu-Ray. Doesn't make it right of course.

None of this means the console needs to shut down the app actually.

It's hardly rocket science.

Any need for this condescending nonsense? If it's hardly rocket science then why hasn't MS addressed the issue? Why don't you sort it for them if it's so easy.

Maybe it looks up bluray live content or something, what matters is you can.

Huge fan on top, vents there and both sides. Only in that unit if it was the only item, on top of that tv box and it wouldnt be happy.

The XB1 keeps so quiet because it has a really big fan... that blows the hot air out of the top of the console. It's the entire grille on the top right half. So you can't place anything on top of that grille, and you should leave lots of room above the console.

As for the hacking/DDoS that's been happening...

I'm not in favour of hackers spoiling Christmas for console owners with the excuse that they are "highlighting the vulnerabilities" or they are forcing these big evil corporations to improve their online services. They're just being dicks. They're the only ones breaking XBL.

However...

... if this makes Microsoft tweak the Blu-ray player app so that it says, "It looks like there's a problem with online services - would you like to watch this disc offline?" rather than saying, "Error code 0x87de0017 - Close"... well, that might be a nice thing.

Or if it makes Microsoft say, "Hey, wouldn't users prefer their pinned tiles to show up when XBL is down?"

Or if it makes Microsoft say, "Hey, shall we turn all those useless error codes into useful descriptions about service problems so that our users know why an app isn't working?"
