Xbox One Console Thread

In the last month or so (probably since the dashboard update) I've had constant issues with the controller losing connection to the Xbox.

It'll disconnect, I'll get the "Please reconnect your controller" message but the pad automatically reconnects and I just press A and the game continues. In offline games it's just a momentary inconvenience but when I'm trying to play something online it's a real pain in the arse. Sometimes when it disconnects it also screws up my headset meaning I have to turn the telly up, which in a house with a young baby isn't an option most of the time. Had to play a Black Ops 3 game in total silence a couple of days back, which was fun.

Pad is fully updated, and I've disabled 5G Wi-Fi as I'd heard that might cause an issue. Staying tethered via the cable isn't an option. Anyone had similar? Any suggestions?

Mine's exactly the same. It'll be fine for ages and then there'll be a few days where it happens frequently. There's nothing (other than my neighbours wifi) to interfere with it, so I suspect some sort of hardware issue. It seems to affect enough people for it to not be caused by wifi or ley lines.

I've a £50 Amazon voucher that I'm wanting to use for an external HDD for the XBO. Can I use any external HDD or do I have to use specific brands/speeds/other stuff?

Any recommendations? No stipulations except it'd need to be USB powered.

Yeah. I get this too. Fingers crossed that it's just something in the latest software update and they can fix it soon. It always seems to happen at the most inappropriate times when playing Dark Souls 2 resulting in me punching the shit out of the pad.

It simply needs to be USB 3 and have a capacity of 256GB or more.

I've got the older version of this:

No complaints.

Weird that only some of you are having these issues, mine has been pretty much perfect since I got it, with only the odd hard reset in that time, and I was on the preview dash for months.

Get a 4/5TB's though, you'll soon fill 2TB. Especially with all the extra Xbox 360 games we're now getting.

I know rationally it can't be right otherwise no one would buy one! Unfortunately MS are insistant there's no issue so what reason can I present to have the retailer replace it? Genuine question.

Not fit for purpose.

I'd simply take a photo everytime it happened, then get onto the retailers support team. It's the retailer that you have to deal with. Being presented with a list of error screens with appropriate timestamps should show that it's happening quite often for you and that console isn't doing what it's supposed to. I'd be amazed that anyone would deny you a replacement if you presented the evidence like that.

It does sound like you have a proper fucked console. Get it replaced. I've had mine for almost 2 years now (in fact we have 3 in the house) and non have displayed the issues you're having. Mind you, my PS4 has been pretty good in not having the issues a lot of people did early on so maybe I'm lucky. :)

To be honest, it could be a failing harddrive. It's surprising how that sort of thing manifests as software issues. I had a failing disk on a desktop machine that threw nvidia driver BSODs, and we just replaced a drive on the forum server that may have contributed to the SQL errors of late (although there we had a faulty DIMM, too).

Quick question xboners, I'm setting up my elite console, downloading everything, now are cloud saves (i'm on gold) automatically going to pull across from my other machine, along with my Black Ops levelling? What about 360 saves like Hydro Thunder and Doom, are they auto clouded on 360 and brought over?

What does that mean for me being a Plex subscriber? Can I just cancel it and carry on as normal?

Also, can you give me a bit more info on Kodi. I've very briefly started looking into it, but if I could run it through Plex on my Xbox that'd be perfect.

Can anyone help me out with this? I've had a look around the web but can't find anything...

Is there any way to get saves across without using cloud saves? I don't have a Gold sub annoyingly.

Xbox One doesn't need Gold for cloud saves, only the 360 does.

If you're moving Xbox One saves from one Xbox One to another, you're fine. It's all in the cloud, regardless of Gold status.

If it's 360 saves you need to transfer, I have a 14 day Gold code I'm happy to give you if you'd like it.

Thanks for the offer, but it's cool.
