Xbox One Console Thread

We set up a Family on the xbox and now my sons profile let's him use the toybox stuff but if he tries to download or play anything outside of his age range then it asks for the password from a family member. It seems to work well.

How did you do that? My kids' profiles are already in the 'family' section of my profile - that's where I go to try to change their permissions. I've set both to age 16 (despite the fact that they're actually 3 and 6 respectively), but it's made no difference. Whenever I try to download a toybox with either my son or daughter also signed in, I get told we can't do it because content is restricted on one account, so the game is being taken offline.

I've got his sign-in set to No Barriers and his content restricted to Age 10.

Check the settings for both accounts and also double check your own account settings. The restriction could belong to your account.

I know I'll probably get slammed for this but in all honesty after owning an XBone for a couple of months I think it's the biggest pile of shite as a console. Every fucking day I have to restart it as it won't sign in, doesn't refresh it's feeds, crashes playing games or even the bloody menus. Ive factory reset it twice and used external discs to try and help. Ive set it up in a dmz as it insisted I was using strict nat even though I bloody wasn't. Almost every day I get messages telling me content isn't available just now, there seems to be a problem at our (their) end. It's now even telling me it can't log me in automatically (I'm the only user) so press the button to log in using the controller! Wtf? If you can tell me to log in why can't you just bloody do it yourself?!

As a contrast my PS4 just works. No issues, no fannying around resetting over and over again. I'm gutted. I was so pleased to get the box and play it's exclusives- I love playing games! This is anything but all the things it should be.

For what it's worth I've spoken to MS support many times and been told there's no fault they can see, just reset, check my settings, make sure the winds blowing the right way.

Rant over. Sorry.

I know rationally it can't be right otherwise no one would buy one! Unfortunately MS are insistant there's no issue so what reason can I present to have the retailer replace it? Genuine question.

How is your connection? A lot of what you mentioned seems to rely on the online aspect. It could be a hardware fault but the symptoms suggest otherwise, unless the wifi in the box is knackered or the Ethernet socket. If your using wired can you try wireless & vice versa?

Get it exchanged. I've not had any of those problems.

If mine did that I'd think it was shite too.

... and don't let them fob you off with some BS about having to go through Microsoft.

Your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer. It's up to them to ensure that what you bought is fit for purpose etc. So long as it's under 6 months since you bought it, any fault should be presumed to be inherent, and the burden is on the retailer to prove otherwise.

(Check up on the Sale of Goods Act 1979 as amended.)

My connection isn't the fastest but is a pretty stable 8mbs. That said if I test it on the Xbox through wired or wireless it usually reports far less.

If you tether to your phone (assuming it's 4G) do you get the same issues?

Is it connected directly to the router when wired? Is it far away when wireless?

Plex is now free on Xbox one. I wasn't aware but you can run Kodi through it for fuck sake ????

This on the day when I had plugged a hacked firestick into my hdmi-in and powered it via the console USB giving the same result. Amazing.

What does that mean for me being a Plex subscriber? Can I just cancel it and carry on as normal?

Also, can you give me a bit more info on Kodi. I've very briefly started looking into it, but if I could run it through Plex on my Xbox that'd be perfect.

I've had mine about two months too, and it's far from what I'd consider flawless. I've had issues with the controller disconnecting several times, once when everything but the guide button would work (Weirdly it worked fine for turning the console on, but once it had started it was dead), not a day goes by when an app just decides to not load or randomly crashes when loading and goes back to the home screen without telling me what the problem is. Loading the app again straight after works 90% of the time. Other times a hard reset will fix it. Party chat is hit and miss for me and it randomly kicks either me or the person I'm talking to out of it, and prior to the NXOE me and a friend had such a nightmare getting party chat to actually work and detect our official headsets. Twice in this last week alone I've had issues with my Xbox One not recognising that I have a Gold sub attached to my account. One evening it'll be working fine, I'll be playing online and then I'll boot it the next day and it acts as if I don't have Gold. The first time this happened the tech support on chat was great, had it fixed within 30 minutes but then it happened again yesterday and I was on the chat support for THREE HOURS trying to explain the problem. The rep just wouldn't understand that it was an error their side. One great idea was that I should delete all my games and re-download them.

All that said, when it works I do really love the Bone, it's host to some great games. It's just incredibly frustrating to me, as someone who adored the 360 and the way it all just worked (RROD aside :P), that the console they did after that is so full of these weird little glitches, and none of them seem hardware based to me. They're all software/OS issues.

In the last month or so (probably since the dashboard update) I've had constant issues with the controller losing connection to the Xbox.

It'll disconnect, I'll get the "Please reconnect your controller" message but the pad automatically reconnects and I just press A and the game continues. In offline games it's just a momentary inconvenience but when I'm trying to play something online it's a real pain in the arse. Sometimes when it disconnects it also screws up my headset meaning I have to turn the telly up, which in a house with a young baby isn't an option most of the time. Had to play a Black Ops 3 game in total silence a couple of days back, which was fun.

Pad is fully updated, and I've disabled 5G Wi-Fi as I'd heard that might cause an issue. Staying tethered via the cable isn't an option. Anyone had similar? Any suggestions?

I've had this for the last few months. I've sent 2 xbones back because of it. I ended up getting an elite and it still does exactly what you've described above - the most annoying is trying to get the headset to work without turning off the console.

I've pulled out the TiVo box and the Wii U. I've moved the Superhub and made sure there's nothing anywhere near the xbone.

I've changed wifi channels, hard reset, turned off 5g etc.

Unfortunately I still get it and it's just as bad as ever. I'm having to play with the controller wired in.

Never had this problem with any other console.
