Xbox One Console Thread

So I'm already filling up my HDD after owning it for a week. I fancy getting an external drive- so long as it's 2.5" and USB 3 I won't need separate power for the drive will I?

I'm presuming I can pick up a disc and enclosure separately? Seagate have a SSD hdd hybrid that gets great reviews but only seems to come caseless.

I've been using a Seagate external 2.5" drive I had been using on a PC. No external PSU needed XBO will power it fine. Copying games over is painless too.

I'd just buy an external drive complete you'll find them cheaper than buying an enclosure and drive. Unless you have a HDD laying around that you aren't using.

Eg

Edit : Just read the rest of your post why you need an enclosure ignore the above.... :)

So I am only a few mins into Xbone ownership but the pad feels nice and while huge I don't mind the look of the machine - fits nicely amongst all the other tat under the telly!

However the UI is a shocker, its then me 10 mins to find the settings and I never thought the day would come where the PSN store isn't the worst of the next gen consoles but man...

Having skimmed this thread for months while I lusted after a Halo player I understand there is a new UI due or is this it?

More importantly can I get Master chief collection digitally cheap anywhere - the store and CD keys seem a tad steep?

I would say

If you buy discs, prepare yourself for lengthy installation times.

Consider the purchase of an external HD.

If in doubt on the home page press the right hand button for available options.

Remember everything is an App.

Get SmartGlass for your phone or tablet.

Then, sit back and enjoy :)

It took me a couple of minutes to find the settings

You guys aren't fucking kidding about installations and patches.

If I eject a disk and put in another one before it finishes installing, will it download the patches overnight or does it need to install while it's on?

Remember to go offline (Settings >> Network) before installing anything; otherwise it'll try to download any patches at the same time and that takes ages.

Don't do that.

Just do it as it's meant to be done and get it all over in one go.

Do buy digitally where possible though. Downloads come down really fast, but disc based installs take a little longer.

I actually don't mind the look of the machine either also like the fact there are no ports on the front of the machine and hence no cables hanging out the front. Also nice it has the USB ports around the back (for external drives etc). Its satisfyingly chunky IMHO.

Yeah the UI is a shambles... fractionally easier with Kinect. Anyway easy enough to get a game running.... :)

In that case, Instant On is your friend!

Yep instant on is great! Like queuing stuff up at work and when I get back ready to play... Guess it does the same with updates etc. Never actually noticed any patching going on so I guess it must.

I spent the longest time trying to figure out how to eject a disc from the machine via a command. I know it doesn't make a difference having to press a button on the machine as you have to get up anyway, but I'd got so used to doing it via the pad on the 360 (and then the PS4) that it seemed like a curious omission.

Indeed it does. I turned mine off one day and it had the old dash, then the next day it had the new dash, all downloaded, installed, and ready to go.

I actually knew about the in joke and yet I still couldn't find it, madness how its hidden away and I wouldn't have pressed the start button - I did try the xbox button tho...

Halo is still installing....

Next question - there is a headphone port on the pad much like the ps4 pad, will a headphones + mic setup work?

I don't think I've ever ejected a disc using anything other than the button on the console!

Is there not a Kinect command?

I tried my Turtle Beach one ear PS4 jobby and it outputs both system/game audio as well as chat for some reason, assumed it would just work normally as it just uses a normal headphone jack. The headset that came with console works properly (outputting only chat though).

Oh, if you find the audio too low (like I did) you change the settings under the menu for the pad and not audio.

Probably, I bought without a Kinect and have no intention of ever buying one.

Like I said, it's not a big deal and doesn't really make a difference. Just thought it odd they'd remove that feature that was present on the 360.

There is a gamertag spreadsheet linked in the first post of this thread. Please use it to add friends and also add yourself to it.

Also. Buy Forza Horizon 2. A beautiful open world, blue skies racing game with a huge variety of things you can do. Absolutely stunning game.
