Xbox One Console Thread

@Wools - not sure about through the console, but you can do all that via the website now as I removed my credit card details a while back to switch to paypal. You can also manage/cancel your gold subscription.

That's great to hear, if you log into your PSN account, some options prompt you to sign into the console to complete the process. It's like Sony are still stuck in the mid 2000's with their online service.

I just want a console that doesn't take all your bloody money when you've not told it to!

Getting giddy watching Forza Motorsport 6 footage now.

Does anyone know if Microsoft have improved their accounts and subscription method?

On the Xbox 360, the worst part was attempting to change any part of your subscription or attempting to remove your credit card details from the device. Has this improved with the Xbox One and can you cancel through the console easily or remove your debit card details?

Long story short, I own a PS4 but Sony have continuously took money from my wallet or attempted to for PS+ Subscription, despite me removing my card details or selecting do not auto renew. The last straw was yesterday, where i put in a code that was given to me as a gift, but my 3 month renewal rolled round and despite swearing blind I canceled it, £15 came out of my account today.

I phoned Sony and they said you can cancel within 14 days but if it was auto renewed, they can't give my money back...

You can do it on the website, or call their very helpful (genuinely, that's not sarcasm!) customer services.

And as said above, you get get 12 months of live for £19 regularly. Normally from CDKeys.

Also, NXOE is rolling out to regular Preview members. So they must have a very stable build.

Really? It's pretty damn stable now which means the build they're pushing next must be close to public quality. It's more about features they need to add back now (like being able to see who's in a party before you join)

I opted my second console in yesterday - once you get used to it going back to metro is hard.

I wonder how much work app/game makers have to do for the NXOE. Will we have a stable dashboard, but really flaky apps/games when it is released to everyone? I'm still having issues with stuff just not working. A reset solves it temporarily, but then the issues start up again after a few minutes. Stuff like voice commands not being recognised any more, apps crashing, the xbox being unable to sign me in automatically (even though I've set it up to always sign me in on boot), 10-second hangs. None of it is too problematic, but it doesn't seem all that stable to me, but if app makers have to change stuff to be properly compatible with the NXOE, I guess that might be why. Haven't tried it yet today though, so all my problems might be solved.

HURRY UP AND MAKE THE ONEGUIDE SECTION GOOD, MICROSOFT

I like the new layout but I can't say that it is stable at all.

I get apps that close themselves after taking too long to start, the console switching itself off in the middle of a game (actually going into full shutdown instead of instant on), the console displaying a system error immediately on startup and requiring a hard rest and other more minor issues with display and usability.

I'm not moaning because I've opted in to a beta program and I have reported all of the above to MS but it doesn't seem like it's anywhere near stable at the moment.

I do wonder if there are several NXOE builds out there at the moment.

Just had a quick look around the dashboard after my children were playing Minecraft for an hour or so. Normally that's when the problems would have started, but it seems pretty solid. Still a little slow for things like signing in, but everything else is a vast improvement.

Except the OneGuide, of course. It now has Amazon (yay), but the channels are still useless for YouTube, and there doesn't seem to be any way to customise them yourself. I'm surprised that you can't choose genres on Amazon as channels. That seems to me like the obvious thing to do.

Mine has had a 400mb update this morning, and it feels like the finished article. There is a new noise when i press left to sign in, and the controller battery icon is always displayed top right (think that's new). All the dodgy typeface issues have gone, although i only had this on the signing in part.

All the other boxes are populated now, and it runs as smooth as silk.

I would still like the pins to be in alphabetical though, will have to suggest that.

With Sony dropping the PS4 RRP by £50 today (to £299), do we think MS will drop the RRP for the One below this level to maintain price advantage, or will they see what Halo 5 does for console sales first before responding?

It is amazing how quiet the thing is. I went to a Bone from a PS3 and if we were watching Netflix late at night with the volume at a reasonable level, you could still hear the PS3 whirring away. Nothing from the Bone, nothing at all. It's lovely.

I hate the UI though and with the new one coming soon, I don't think it's worth me "learning" it?

But yeah, my main reason for finally getting one was Rock Band 4 thanks to my ridiculous back catalogue of DLC. That combined with Forza Horizon 2, MCC, the upcoming Halo 5, Quantum Break and Crackdown 3 plus the BC meant it finally reached the point where it made more sense to own one rather than not own one. :)

The new one's rubbish too, IMO. As for whether it's worth you 'learning' the old one, that depends on how much you're going to use the console before the new one comes out. If you'll be using it for a couple of hours a day, for example, I'd have thought you'd learn it just through using it.

Learning it is probably a bit too strong a word to use, maybe. Like, my first time finding my download queue was a pain the arse, for example. Obviously to those of you who've had the console since launch that shit is basic, but it took me a while to find it. :P

Yeah, it can be awkward for stuff like that. I still think you'll end up knowing where stuff is through use. It's not so bad that you'd leave it switched off until the NXOE is released, surely?

You can do it with smart glass too.

Well, what do you know? You can drag the pins into the order you want through smart glass too - not just send them to the front. Thanks!

Nah, it's usable. I'll of course be using it up until the NXOE is released. I just think a lot of it is unnecessarily complicated and obtuse to a new user.

Just pin every digital game and app you use frequently (including Settings, Upload to manage your captures,TV & Video services, Parties etc etc). Everything on this is an App.

If in doubt press the options button - the right hand one.

Use SmartGlass to

message

manage friends list

see what's up with them

peruse the store

find out what's on TV

ogle your achievements and captures etc etc

it's brilliant on a tablet.
