On my xbox, it's a red bar with white writing and it's perfectly readable. Do you have 'my colour' set to light blue in your personalisation settings?

Oh, and a hard reset was indeed the cure for my 'nothing works' woes last night. Mostly. I'm still getting random crashes with 'generic error' messages or 'something went wrong', but I'm okay with that. I don't expect the dash to be perfect yet.

I have a homehub 5 and it is shite. Are there any recommended routers to replace that? Fed up with strict NAT even with ports being forwarded.

Have you configured it correctly? HH5 is supposed to be an excellent router.

Yeah I've got a 4 and it's great once you've set it up correctly. No problems at all.

Are you wired? If not why not get home plugs?

Edit: apparently with 5 putting the Xbox in the DMZ will solve it rather than port forwarding.

Have you done that thing of running the network test then when you get the result message back holding all four shoulder buttons? You're looking for it to tell you you have a cone NAT

My Bone switched from strict to open with no extra config needed.

UPNP support on some routers is just useless.

I've got a HH5 and it's excellent. Took a bit of config to get 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz to broadcast different SSIDs and what not, but since then I'm very happy. PS4 and Xbox both wired and work perfectly.

I have done the network test thing many times, works for a short while then strict again.

I have just been upgraded to the HH5 from HH3 and it is unbelievably better. Having lived with a Moderate NAT for god knows how many years and how many config changes, I now have an Open NAT after just port forwarding the Xbox One using the default "Xbox Live" application on the HH. Took about 15 secs and about 6 clicks.

My HH5 experience was terrible. Especially when the wifi would just randomly stop working until you rebooted the router. However it was miles better than the shitty Asus I replaced it with at the time. Supposed to have a dual core cpu for extra speed and had a UI that felt like you were browsing the web at dialup speeds.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I bought the TPLink.

Yep, mine isn't as I want either. Have port forwarding and DMZ and still strict. Have been through numerous setups with it too. I think a new router is the order of the day. I assume I need to run through my modem again rather than direct to the router when I get a new one.

the Homehub 5 is a terrible pile of shit, it's the only router i've ever had where you can disable the firewall and put a device in the DMZ and still have to forward ports for it to get an Ope NAT.

The one I linked is a VDSL/ADSL router. You don`t need a modem

I`m on BT Infinity. The TPLink has a default in the quick setup specifically for BT. All you need to do is put the default bt userid (I think it`s something like bthomehub@btbroadband.com) and any password

My Bone is currently unusable. It's stuck in a cycle of trying to install the new dash and failing. Unplug it and it just tries again and fails.

It took me several tries. Just keep persevering. I didn't need to unplug the console though. Just a hard reset. I did have to do it five times or so though.

I managed to get it back to the previous dash although with no live. Since almost all my stuff lives on my external drive I decided to try a factory reset. Just doing the update now. Shall see how it goes.

Sorted now. Factory reset did the trick. Of course I'd forgotten to move the Master Chief collection to the external drive. Good job I have BT Infinity these days
