Xbox One Console Thread

So, randomly disconnecting controllers. Is this a thing for anyone else? I've updated the firmware before anyone suggests it :)

It's entirely random, and not specific to any particular games. I'll get a pop-up in-game saying the controller is disconnected. Except it isn't - the Xbox light is still white and a second later when I press A to dismiss the message it magically works again. It's been happening for a couple of months on and off and whilst I've mostly been lucky with it happening in menus or lobbies, it's occasionally screwed me over during Gears multi.

Yeah this happens occasionally with one of my controllers. The other one I never have an issue with. So it might be hardware issue with the controller, also it seems to happen mostly when the battery is low.

It used to happen a bit, but not recently. The most recent game I remember being affected was Destiny, and I haven't played that for ages, maybe a year now.

Update installed and the new dash is still displaying random characters instead of the Roman alphabet. It's like a fucking MySpace page from 15 years ago!

At least games are booting now.

I don't like the new dash at all. I disliked the last one but this is balls.

Not sure I'm looking forward to the new dash!!! When does it get released into the wild?

Yeah the new update is possibly worse, I've got games and apps missing images on my games and apps and even missing names, the store is buggy and missing words and crashes, advanced warfare still doesn't work properly when going through menus, and the text is in weird characters all over the place, it's like they rushed this build out to remove the glitch to get cortana

I just hope the new dash works with Halo just fine. You'd think that'd be a priority right now.

I know this whole thing is probably quite complicated, especially when you've got to get games compatible, but it does confuse me how they've been working on it for so long and they've still got it spitting out bloody Wingdings at you.

Intentionally of course, it's not difficult highlighting your absurd bias. FYI, the PS4 beta has been pretty stable by all accounts wheras the One beta has been a bit of a mess - this won't come as much of a surprise to those of us who own both consoles and don't have a bizarre allegiance to one box of electronics over another. The PS4's OS has been mostly solid, by contrast I've never had more OS level issues with a console than I have with the Bone - and I'm not on any beta program.

This would be a post mostly made of sensible points were it not for the point that currently there are TWO flavours of preview programs on XboxOne. One is the normal beta preview that MS have had more or less since launch that Sony have finally copied (thank fuck). That is generally really stable and well worth being on. The other is this NEW dashboard which if you look at the release notes is essentially an alpha. I mean just look at the known problems list. It's not hidden. Reading that list made me immediately think, "i'll give that a miss".

As for OS stability and features it's almost like you've decided to close your eyes in the PS4 thread. There's people moaning about it doing some very odd things randomly.

I seem to be one of the lucky ones in that my shiny PS4 hasn't thrown up any of those issues and hopefully stays that way!

Usabilty is one thing, and for what it's worth I think both machines have strengths and weaknesses, I like the speed and simplicity of the PS4 but I like the way you can customise the Bone with pins and so forth - as you say it's rather subjective. My point was rather one of stability. If your Bone has been as stable as your PS4 then you're a lucky man as far as I can work out, I've had issues with the controller not starting the console, or simply not syncing, with voice commands being unrecognisable, with the Kinect working sporadically, suspend/resume working unreliably and, most damningly, I've lost count how many times I've had to pull the power cable out in order to recover from an OS crash. From reading this thread these don't seem to be isolated issues by any stretch of the imagination.

On that basis it seems ludicrous to describe people who have opted to try the PS4 beta as "stupid" whereas those who tried the Bone beta and run into serious issues should just shut the fuck up and expend their energy giving Microsoft detailed feedback, rather than having the temerity to discuss specific issues with a console in a thread on a gaming forum dedicated to discussing that console. I guess my issue is a broader one, the hysterical knee-jerk reaction by a small handful to anyone remotely critical of MS stifles meaningful conversation in this thread which is a shame.

Is your Xbox One faulty? I've never had any such problems, even on the Preview Programme.

I have on the NXOE, mind, but that shit is beta as fuck. Or at least it was last week.

The fact that this thing is supposed to be going out to every single Xbox as a full release in November and that you think of it as an alpha says quite a lot, I think.

At the moment I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up getting delayed.

Just look at the known issues list!!

Compare that to the standard beta dashboard list.

It's getting 2 releases a week. End of November gives it 12 releases before they go "live" so I'm sure it'll be a load better by then but I'm also expecting it to be delayed a few weeks.

Our second Xbox one has been brought down and setup as the main. I was having too many problems with NXOE. Random crashes, games not showing in the library etc. I know it's a beta and that is fine, I'll continue to tinker and leave feedback, but any major sessions are on the old dash for the foreseeable :-)

Which would be fine, I think.

I don't think we can argue much against the process, really.

I got a message from XBL asking me to try out some new community calendar feature. The message has a redeemable code but unlike the old dash the message doesn't have a "redeem" option attached to take care of it for me.

I can't figure out where they've hidden the redeem code function - anybody know?

It's a couple of small things but it's so jarring going back to the old screen pops on the metro dash - the new ones seem to always run at 60fps they're really smooth. Also you're notified in realtime when people like or comment on your clips or activity.

Just for balance, I know quite a few people with issues like those, especially controller issues.

To disregard them as a faulty console isn't fair in my opinion.

I've just got it tonight, and this new dash seems pretty slick. A lot faster and smoother for sure.

Having to scroll down, past a crazily, screen fillingly big block of your recently played apps is ridiculous though. All I hope is that it populates with 16 or 20 your last used stuff in the final release version.

This isn't a moan, honestly but...

Just got an XBone today. Ive had constant sign in issues and it's taken 12 hours and counting to install the update for the Halo collection. If I check my download speeds on another device I have a constant 8mbps speed (woot!) which is normal. The XBone tool says 0.04mbps.

I can't say my new console happy feeling hasn't taken a bash. I know there's marketplace issues but is this related? is this unusual?

I had a lot of difficulty with sign ins at first and I'm not really sure what fixed that. From time to time it will still decide to not auto sign in.

As for the screwed DL speed, I can't really help. What's your home broadband setup like? Router far away? Wireless? 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz? What does your Xbox say it's NAT type is?
