For those stuck in mega drive days the three buttons in centre of controller work as follows

The illuminated Xbox button goes to dash/os same as on 360

The right hand hand button is pause in game same as on 360

The left hand button is context sensitive but can be options or something else same as on 360

The only way you "pin some crap" to right hand side is if you double press the illuminated button land if you do that by accident then I apologise for not acknowledging your disability earlier

The snap thingy often catches me out and confuses me. Say I'm on the dashboard and I want to look at "Friends", it loads up the last fullscreen app I was using (which may just be something like "Options"), then snaps friend list stuff to the side of that. Why? Then I can never remember how to unsnap that bullshit.

Not seen that what steps is that?... If I am on dashboard and go to friends tab it doesnt do that and if i then press A on the main box on left for friends it opens a fullscreen friends app

what do you do to get a sideapp?

If you open the Friends app from the recent tiles list, if you had it open previously as a snapped app, it will open again as a snapped app. Same with TV or any other app that is snappable and was snapped the last time it was used. You can see the snap icon in the top right of the tile which signifies if it will open snapped or not.

yeah that is a bit shit, can see why it works that way but its annoying.

I never snap it (or indeed anything ever)... so that will explain why I couldn't replicate it.

I do the gamedvr stuff very rarely but I dont think I snap anything for that much

If you press the menu button rather than 'A' over those tiles with the snap icon, one of the options is to open in full screen. Not an entirely elegant answer, but I'm not sure I can think of a better way. Makes sense for it to open the same way as you last used it as the default, though, I think.

How long do updates normally take to apply? And how big are they? My Xbox One is set to instant on so it normally happens while I'm asleep. For some reason it was offline though, so when I went back online today it told me I had to update. 1300mb or so, and it's been installing for half an hour so far.

Normally 15 minutes and around 280MB however I had on that size last night which was the dashboard update, are you in the preview program?

Yeah, I'm in the preview program, so hopefully it's the new dash. It's still 'applying'. It downloaded in about ten minutes, but the progress bar on the 'applying update' screen hasn't moved in the last half hour or so. It's around two thirds done.

Has anyone on here had any issues with Destiny launching with the new dash? I'd like to try it out but there's no way in hell I'm doing it if it's going to cut off dat grind.

I got the new dash yesterday and the first thing I did was start up Destiny with no problems (I have TTK in case that makes a difference).

No, not massively.

I think I need to get used to it, but my initial impressions are that it's faster, which I like, and that I preferred the old one for everything else other than the speed.

I don't like the way it displays your five most recently used apps. Functionality wise, it's fine, but I think it's ugly, which is my impression of the whole thing really.

I don't like the ribbon thing at the side, but being a misanthrope I won't use it much anyway as it mostly seems to be social stuff there. Similarly the 'community' tab.

The OneGuide tab is something I could see myself using a lot if it actually displayed a meaningful amount of stuff from other apps, like it claims it does. Instead all I get is live tv channels (which is great but I never watch live TV), a single suggestion from YouTube and another from Netflix, and hundreds of suggestions from Xbox Video, most of which are available on YouTube or Netflix or Amazon, but the only option when clicking on them is to buy them from Xbox Video.

It's still missing any way to properly organize your pins, they seem to be trying to push snapping even more and social stuff is even more central. None of which are appealing to me.

I'm sure I'll mellow when I've used it a bit more though.

Yeah, I don't really like it at the moment either, maybe it's just change.

Some of the text in the ribbon was messed up on mine, everything had accents and umlauts over them.

Mine didn't seem faster either and there appeared to be a lot of wasted space on the screen, especially the last five apps used.

They normally download and install in a matter of minutes for me. Big ones maybe take 10-20 minutes.

Finally got the update myself. Seems quite quick but I'm not as massively taken with it as I thought I would be, kinda got used to the old dash.

The achievement app seems broken, it opens up the store page for the app rather than opening the actual app.

Also the game tiles in your installed games list seem to have different artwork and all of my 360 games have disappeared.

Other than that I haven't had any major issues yet (touch wood).

New dashboard is garbage! Want the old one back already : ( so many issues with it aesthetically. It looks so bland and lifeless, the blacks of the dashboard aren't even black, colors are completely washed out. I always had my background as pure black, now they are can't even get the colour black right.. It's a light grey even when you choose black lol. Always 4 steps back with Microsoft. Snapping isn't anywhere near as quick or convonient, the little grid that popped up before when you double tapped the Xbox button was so much more convenient than this long winded rubbish of opening up and window on the left, scrolling all the way to the bottom then clicking snap then choosing what you want to snap... Just give me the old dashboard back
