Xbox One Console Thread

I tried sharing my first video clip from the bone today. A simple replay from Forza to YouTube. Oh wow.

We'll I won't be trying that again any time soon. It's like they tried their hardest to make it as convoluted and un user friendly as possible to record and share a clip. Amazing.

The whole Upload app is one of the slowest and poorly designed console interfaces I've ever had the misfortune to come across. Hopefully things will improve massively with the new Xbox UI.

Actually, one of the things I now like (but initially didn't, given there are slight load times) is that they've divvied pretty much everything into apps. I assume that'll continue under Win 10, and perhaps even result in cross over of apps for Xbox and Windows. I assume it also means they can iterate them, rather than having colossal firmware updates?

Don't you just go into the Youtube app, Scroll to uploads, select the clip and upload it?

Hmm, not having much luck with the media player app. For one, it didn't support my Twonky server (which the 360 and every other device I have does). So I updated the firmware of the NAS (WD Mybook Live) to DLNA and it detects it, but doesn't playback even vanilla mp4 encodes from handbrake. 360 does all this just fine. I notice mkv support was added 2014, but it's not even detecting the mkv files.

Perhaps this'll be better after the Win 10 update, because the Win 10 media app plays back those mkv files just fine.

Anyway, will try again directly from a USB drive.

Is using Plex a possibility? I love plex. )

Seems like there's some decent sales this week, I'd never play it again but Shadow Of Mordor is tempting as is Toy Soldiers.

On October 5, Project Spark will transition from its microtransaction model to a free and open creation engine. This will automatically unlock previously paid downloadable content for new and existing Project Spark users. Microsoft will pivot from producing DLC and active feature development to encouraging more user generated content and opening the Project Spark experience.

Project Spark’s goal has always been to empower creativity. We’ve been an incubation engine for ideas from epic to artistic and we plan to continue doing so,” said Rahul Sandil, Head of Project Spark Acquisition/Engagement. “Project Spark inspires and empowers over 200,000 creators who have shared tens of millions of custom objects, behaviors and experiences. Every day we see anywhere between 300 and 400 new games being uploaded on our platform. Our support of these creators and our communications with them will continue in an open, free and collaborative environment.”

In light of these changes to a fully free model, all players who have purchased Project Spark digital content on or after July 28, 2015, purchased and activated retail discs on or after July 28, 2015 or have a remainder balance of purchased in-game tokens will be entitled to Microsoft Store credit equivalent to their money spent. Microsoft Store credits will be awarded to all users within 30-60 days after October 5.

Alongside this news, a number of new content and features will be added to Project Spark available on October 5 for creators, including:

  • The maximum terrain limit in creations has been doubled
  • The maximum prop limit in creations has been increased by 500
  • 200+ new assets have been added in game, including a dragon, goblin warlord, bog biome and a set of new primitive building blocks
  • Each creator will now have a total of 100 Upload Slots for their creations
  • UGC ranking will be based on downloads and favorites, instead of upvote/downvote ratings
  • The Project Spark Marketplace has been removed
  • The Project Spark Tour and Treasure Trove have been removed
  • Achievements have been revamped for players and creators

A few outlets are saying the release date for the Xbox One Elite controller is now Oct 27th in the UK. Same day as Halo 5.

I got to try one of these at the weekend, I played Forza 6 with it and thought it was pretty nice. The paddles on the back were set to handle gears and though you need not use the second analogue stick in the game, it felt good to be able to leave my thumb in place instead of moving it from button to button. I felt very at home with that right away, I'd liked to have tried it with something like Halo and seen if something more frantic might have been so easy to adapt to - I was only using two paddles with Forza but I'm imagining that I'd use more for Halo. It's a fairly easy sell to me, unfortunately for my bank balance but really, I don't think it's going to be worthwhile for people with a passing interest in it / without lots of money to burn. Or perhaps just not so easy to justify.

The magnetic sticks, paddles and D-pad were something that I was a bit concerned about initially but they seemed to attach very securely.

I haven't purchased Halo yet as I'm wondering if there'll be some kind of bundling going on with the pad and game. I missed out on Amazon's bargain price, so I'm up for a saving elsewhere.

Ultratron is 75% off £7.99 £2.00
https://store.xbox.com/en-GB/Xbox-One/Games/Ultratron/2c447b71-a68c-4a1c-bb03-491f3756f623

Since its original release, Xbox One owners of the superb retro shooter Ultratron have so far failed to unlock one of the game’s Achievements.

Worth 20 GamerScore, the ‘Drone Bullet Kills’ Achievement requires that players shoot down 50 enemy bullets using only the game’s drone.

There has been loads of debate online about whether the achievement is glitched, even though we uploaded a blog detailing step by step how the achievement could be unlocked.

Well, today, we are delighted to publish a video which shows our in-house QA man Paul Hann completing the achievement on a retail Xbox One console – and we’re throwing down the gauntlet to the rest of you.

“It took me almost all day,” says Paul, “but it’s been time well spent – simply so we can show the Achievement is possible.”

To celebrate achieving this Achievement, we’ve slashed 75 per cent off the price of the game for a week beginning Wednesday 30th September through till Wednesday 7th October – meaning the only excuse not to have this on record is that you’re not good enough.

It marks the beginning of a month where Curve will be discounting the majority of its titles as we lead up to the holidays. We’ve branded it the Curve Digi-sale, because it sounds a bit like Curve Digital, which is the name of the company. Look out for discounts through until October 31st 2015.
