Xbox One Console Thread

It's not wrong to want a unified experience, so yes.

As a Rare fan that's played many of these games hundreds of times before, and some games of which i've only just played on the previous Xbox system (Xbox 360) and paid money for those games, only to get just the same exact representations of them again in this compilation, why wouldn't actual Rare fans be disappointed? If I'm expected to pay for the same games that I can already play on the same system thanks to BackCompat, why wouldn't I expect more?

And just more generally, as mostly a N64 era fan, why wouldn't I expect extras? Why should I be okay with Xbox 360 ports? One which takes you out of the experience, no less, not even made unifed with everything else.

Another gripe: the 360 Live Arcade versions of Kazooie and Tooie are ignored by speedrunners, why? You can't skip the cutscenes (or was it dialogue). Resulting in those communities still sticking to the original N64 versions. This compilation could have righted that wrong, but no, lazy live arcade emulation.

Now look what you did, you made me agree with Boozy. He's right, sometimes "fuck off " is the only answer.

It is a fantastic compilation and if you want to criticise it because it isn't used by speedrunners or because it doesn't quite have the achievements you expect (meaningless numbers no less) then go ahead... criticise it, don't buy it and don't mention it again.

because hey, good news, you still have all those Rare games you paid for so you don't have to buy this compilation for a fraction of what you paid for all the originals. And if you don't own the original hardware then you can still play the 360 games on Xbox One via free backward compatibility!

If you do buy it then, good news , you can complain about Banjo fucking nuts and bolts allllll over again until we are more bored of the sight of your posts than we are now!

Even Nuts and Bolts, a game essentially built on minigames that insists on pissing on the originals, won't have additional new challenges nor is in the UI.

Good, because that's all N&B deserves. Mediocre treatment.

Better to get mediocre treatment than being treated like a joke.

It gets treated like a terrible sad joke by the real Banjo fans, too.

Positivity: impressed by the Games for Gold selection. Less than PS+, but at least it's 2 big retail titles (despite their age) compared to Sony whom seems to be shying away from those kinds of offerings over the last year. Not that I mind indie, but getting 'only' indie from PS+ has been quite meh.

Bone UI still rubbish, though.

Have you paid up for EA Access yet? If you're just interested in cheap games, it's far better value than either Gold or PS Plus.

Probably best to wait until the compilation's six quid cheaper, eh? That'll strip out the 67p each for the nine games that were available on the 360.

See, if you'd opened with the gambit about how you don't want to rebuy games you already own, I'd have sympathised with the principle if not the dirt cheap reality. It's a better line to take than wanting your back slapped every fifteen minutes while you play.

Because that's just it, they don't change just get added to

Ah!

Price certainly isn't an issue, but that shouldn't draw curtains over any games flaws. Granted I may have annoyed by sounding overly harsh on it (rubbish!), it just doesn't sound anywhere near perfect and is lacking the old Rare polish...yet again.

Viva Pinata is pretty much the only good thing that came out of the MS deal (on the amazing-o-metre) everything else (of which, over 10 years has been laughable the amount they have managed to release) is either average (Kameo) or terrible. And who knows, maybe they even screwed up VP with it's sequel, didn't get to play it.

Would you have bought Sonic 06 at release if it was £15? Looks amazing graphically and come on, how bad can it be? You can apply it to any game and rate it as not as bad as it is simply because of the amount you paid for it? i mean, it's not to say I'd be highly critical of £15 either, but yes, I suppose I do have high expectations when it comes to Microsoft-owned Rare.

If Rare Replay were flooded alongside other titles at £15 akin to the mobile games market (where 79p magically starts mattering to most) I'd imagine a lot more critic of Rare Replay.

It's by far and away the most lovingly crafted compilation I've had the pleasure of playing.... and do people still really care about achievements/gamerscore?

Yup. I get more out of my games by going back and doing every last bit to get my 1000/1000. It's become almost an OCD thing and a great value for money considering I used to just finish the single player component and leave them.

What is this drivel? Sonic 2006 looked shite and played shite from day one, was horrendous in every way and doesn't even function properly.

By all accounts Rare Replay has had the old titled emulated wonderfully with a host of extra content to pad it out, while the more recent titles are polished.

Anyway I don't know why we're entertaining this, you're the one who says Sonic is better than Mario cos they change the plot.

Scenery, music and plot. Edit: The critic mostly applies to mainly just the New Mario series, in case you've forgotten. You know, where Nintendo decided to make bland identikit 2D Mario titles over and over.To the point it's now affecting 3D Mario in visual design as well. (3D World)

At the time 06 did look graphically good for anyone interested paying attention. My comment was more on the perception of what price does to the mind.

Jesus wept... The reviews for sonic 06 were woeful , a cursory glance at the reviews shows up phrases like "terrible graphics" "awful camera" "awful popin" "juddering framerates" "bad gfx in hubworld", and that is just about the way it looks, the gameplay comments were even worse.

The game was a sad pile of excrement. I am no mario fanboy but mentioning it in the same breath as the worst mario game would result in sonic 06 looking like a lame dog who is begging to be shot.

Edit - oh and anyone playing a 2d or even 3d mascot based platformer for the plot has completely lost the plot!

Please continue missing the point and focusing on the Sonic game because oh look it's the Sonic guy mentioning a Sonic game in his example. But just to say it for the hell of it, because you'll enjoy me typing it, graphics were not 06's problem.

Lack of caring about mascot plot is exactly one of the reasons Sonic 2 and 3&K are superior to the likes of Mario 3 and World. ;)

But at least Mario had visual and musical differentiation in his 2D adventures back then!

For the sake of the sane, I probably shouldn't repeat myself in this thread for another 6 months.

Resume Boozy Xbone Love Talk

(Rare Replay sucks)

Well no, in the same way as if someone breaks their leg and their head falls off, the leg is not their problem.
