Xbox One Console Thread

Seems the big update is to be gradually rolled out to Preview members depending on the volume of feedback received to date. You can decline to receive if you wish.

So, I'll be back of the queue, not that I'm particularly fussed. The main consequence of being in the Preview programme so far seems to be a string of smallish updates rather than one big monthly one (apart from the BC stuff).

Hopefully I get an earlyish invite as I have been submitting feedback on the quests that I could partake in (This months is testing the wireless projection app with a compatible device like a Windows phone).

Think I'm up to about 200 points on the leaderboard.

Nah, its true i done it earlier, load up CC on your 360 and you get an option to hit right trigger to upload save to xbox one, takes 10 seconds. Not yet loaded it up on my xbone.

Do other games offer this sort of feature? I have uploaded my saves to the cloud but with Tomb Raider this month I'd like to continue where I left off.

I'm not sure I'll buy direct from MS again. They billed me for the preorder yesterday, and today I get my shipping email. However, it'll take 3-7 business days. I reckon Amazon would have shipped it to arrive on the day with prime.

Oh well, XB1 soon!

Edit- silly question, but how do you get EA Access? Is there an app for it once you've got the console?

Not that I am aware of, Castle Crashers is the first game I have seen use these feature. Unsure if its possible with TR as I dont have it on Xbox.

So, the XB1. Interesting machine. Get the grumbles out of the way: was slightly miffed there's no Ethernet cable, but appreciate world + dog is WiFi these days (almost seems comical that I had to buy a WiFi adapter for my chunky 360). No rechargeable battery just seems tight, but I need one as Duracells are going to get expensive over time.

The interface. You know, it's slightly familiar, in a win 8.1 sense, but stuff seems to be buried. I still haven't figured out how to pause the comically sized Forza download to grab apps quick. Also, I've switched off the machine and it's in instant-on mode, but I've no visual indicator that Forza is still downloading. The 360 used to pulse its light. Still, Win 10 incoming, not going to grumble much.

Good stuff: the Forza edition just looks fantastic, and the rumble in the triggers was a brilliant idea. Hope more games use that.

Couldn't see anywhere to link to Facebook to use my profile photo. Can you pick one from onedrive?

Can't get my head around the number of apps on it, I just assumed the various streaming services couldn't be arsed to write stuff for this gen yet. Turns out they just can't be arsed for the PS4, or Microsoft's tools made porting 360 apps easy. Universal apps on Win 10 will presumably just make this better and better.

Need to find a cheap kinect, 360's won't work right? Once we have one, I may fish out the cable TV decoder we have. Cable is currently decoded by the TV itself, but using the box I could route it to the XB1 and get a guide.

Machine is whisper quiet, very impressive. I need to add a while bunch of you guys, I haven't actively used my Live account for years. Add me! I'm TehStu.

Edit- oh, can you download apps from other regions? Be nice if I could get iPlayer.

To pause a download My Games & Apps > Queue > Highlight Tile > Start button > Pause/ Resume Installation.

The UI takes a bit of getting used to but within a couple of weeks you'll get there, voice and kinect makes it simpler.

Welcome Aboard.

The three basic lessons to using the UI

1. Double tap the Guide button then use the d-pad to Snap/ Unsnap

2.Find everything by going home (Guide button once) then pressing A on the small globe tile on the top left corner next to your gamertag/ sign in.

3. Use the start button to pin to home your most used apps and games including "settings" "friends" "party" "internet explorer" "Netflix" etc...

Yeah pinning settings is a ridiculous thing to have to do but it will make your life much easier. Basically just pin everything you think you might use on a semi regular basis. The only thing not worth pinning is disc games because they stay in the main set of icons as long as the disc is in.

Not long until the new UI, anyway.

What I didn't know and got from that tips vid Boozy posted is that you can pin individual shows from Netflix.

You can easily swap region on Xbox one via settings->system to UK which should allow you to grab iplayer but the app might do an IP check I don't know.

Also make sure you get smartglass on whatever smartphone you have and install the Xbox app if you're running Win10 (probably already installed)

Ref pausing apps to download others it's unnecessary - queue up everything you want then go to the queue in "games and apps" and highlight whatever you want to install then press start and there will be an "install now" option. That pushes it to front of queue.
