Xbox One Console Thread

On my 3rd. I think I'm just unlucky, the XB1 is a lot more reliable than the 360. First one had a blu-ray drive failure. Second one the hardrive (I think) was making strange sounds and it was taking ages to load anything.

I've just accidentally won a Kinect and The Crew for £55 on eBay. It sort of means I get the Kinect for £35, which is a decent price for one, I think. And I do want The Crew. £20 for that seems pretty standard. But... I haven't missed my old Kinect in the last eleven months. Did I need to buy another one?

Well, at least I'll be able to turn my TV off when I turn the Xbox off now.

I'm still very new to Xbox One, and I got quite annoyed trying to get screenshots out of it. I've given up now, I can't get the XB1 to 'share' anything. In another thread someone said how fun it was to use photo mode in Forza Horizon 2... and it is! But it's not much use if I can't take screenshots and get them on my PC later.

It's so easy to get your screenshots off a PS4 because you can transfer straight to a USB stick. You don't even need to be online.

I have learned that on the Xbox One you need to:

- Be online, with all Xbox Live services working properly

- Have a full Xbox Live Gold subscription

- Maybe need your privacy options set to automatically upload screenshots and video clips

- Then the Upload app will allow options like "Save' and 'Share'

- You can share to things like Twitter or OneDrive, so that you can later download them on a PC.

I'm not sure why it isn't working. I'm still only on the trial subscription for Gold, it might be that. How ridiculous. They're image files on a hard-drive... why lock them behind a pay subscription service and a cloud upload process?

It's pretty straightforward.

Take Screenshot with the OS , share to OneDrive or twitter and then do what you want from there.

True, you can't save to USB but I would have to question why you'd want to? Aren't you going to have to use a PC to view the content just like you would if you want to see what you've saved to OneDrive and the like? I suppose if you were offline entirely it would be useful to have a USB stick but I can't really recall being offline long enough for it to ever mean I can't share my stuff with others for long.

If you take Photos within Forza Horizon 2 then they'll be saved to the website linked above.

Not sure if having a trial XBox Live is what is stopping you. Are you intending to go full Gold?

I don't get a 'Share' option when I press the menu button, only 'set as desktop' and 'delete'. It may be because I'm still on the Gold trial, or it may be because I haven't ever logged into OneDrive on the console, I'll try that.

The reason I like USB is because my desktop PC is literally a few feet away from the consoles, so it takes 5 seconds to swap a USB stick between them, which is marginally faster than logging into a cloud service. If I wanted to access the files on another device in another place, then fair enough, cloud services would be great.

I'm an old-fashioned guy, and I'm quite anti-DRM, etc, so it's just kinda neat that PS4 gives you unrestricted access to those JPGs and MP4s at a local level. I'm a little shocked that you need a full Xbox Live Gold subscription (http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/system/capture-screenshots) and send those files all around the world just to obtain full access to them.

EDIT: thanks everyone for the help.

I know I'm moaning like a miserable bastard. This isn't a huge issue or anything. I suppose I'm just looking for an excuse to use the XB1 more than the PS4, so if the capture functions were easier it would be a great excuse to play more games on XB1. But the entire UI has left me confused and irritated, and made me go on the internet and google things. Maybe I'm a stupid old man and this generation is just too much for me (then again, it was all perfectly easy on PS4).

Yeah I think for you the fact you can't use a USB drive is the real issue here. The rest of your issues seem to stem from not wanting to use bandwidth (are you on a cap?) or agree to the T's & C's on ForzaMotorsport (which is the official website for Forza by the way, from the people who created the game, so not sure what you're worried they're going to do to your account :))

The UI is confusing for a couple of days I agree, but you soon get to know how to hop from one place to the next.

Should hopefully be made more streamlined with the new OS update coming soon.

Damn, that's unlucky...

I've not had time to contact MS about my dead console yet but what's their service/replacement policy? It was a day one co close so way out of warranty?

Is this even out yet? or have you played a sneaky preview copy? I quite like the look of it.

Yeah I've played the final review code for quite a while now. It's a really charismatic new twist on an explorative shmup and one of the most refreshing experiences I've had this year. I'd highly recommend checking it out when it's released next Wednesday.

Yeah I'm really tempted by the Halo 5 LE console as it actually looks really nice, is 1Tb, and comes with a steel book version of the game. It also mentions a custom controller. If that's the new deluxe pad then the deal has just become a must have!
