Xbox One Console Thread

I don't spoof the system because I frankly can't be arsed. Worries about sanctions for circumventing the pricing are a secondary concern behind sheer, unadulterated laziness.

Someone will say it's really easy, you just set your account to - I stop them there. You've already made too much work for me.

I get that.. I have same thing with upgrading PS4 internal drive. With Xbox One I just plug in an external and it works and I ask if its like that on PS4 and get told oh its a doddle you just open the case... and I stop reading there , its already way more faff than I'm willing to put up with for the benefit. I'll just delete games I dont play and buy more multi-plats on xbox one.

I guess we are all just lazy "cant be arsed" about certain things.

as for spoofing, its hardly spoofing I don't use a vpn or anything I just change location on the website in my browser which is a feature of the site. If they wanted to stop people doing it they could quite easily do that and do in fact do it for other stores and you have to spoof with vpn. If it had a vpn or a similar location hurdle I wouldnt bother, i'd just buy cheap UK credit and pay a few quid more.

It has to be said, the concept of changing discs is already repellent.

ah yes the other reason I've gone predominantly digital.

To give an up to date example, I am buying Until dawn on disc and will chop it in once I've played it over a week or two. I did same with Dead rising 3 and Destiny (yeah I know but I wasnt 100% sure and I played it a bit and decided it wasnt for me, if it was I was going to go digital)

So it means no disc changing as I only have 1 disc game on the go at one time :)

I would be very surprised if MS ever stopped people buying on other stores.

If you stick some credit on your account in different markets (I have some left over from purchases on the US,Hong Kong and Russian Xbox Stores) then on your account there is a section on the left hand side of your screen that details your balances in each region. If MS didn't want you to do that why would they build their website to display all that to you?

Kinda ironic really sometimes. All the fuss kicked up about MS going for digital releases etc and well here we are buying our games digitally.... Myself included. :)

Actually I wasn't fundamentally against digital gaming anyway just wanted to the prices to reflect this. I'm a big fan of steam too... so I was kind of used to it.

Lets face it there isn't such a thing as a physical disk only game these days - they all get patched to the hilt anyway. Think we'll end up digital only at some point anyway by virtue of price and convenience.....

Anyway... :)

As long as the prices are ok then I'm cool with digital. They're still not there yet though. UK store games at £50-60 quid. Nope! It's only because they can be had cheaper easily off the other stores and that I'd have to buy two physical copies for the kids that it's economical to go digital for me.

Except that even on this page people have said they still buy disc games. A digital only future would be a very different prospect for a lot of people. I don't mind it on the PC but that's because there's huge amounts of competition and frequent sales/price drops. Sony have been a lot better at the latter recently but the digital landscape on consoles is still vastly different.

An example: Far Cry 4 is £7.50 at the moment directly from Ubisoft's store. How cheap has it been digitally on consoles?

Yep I prefer disk games. But in the end they are just bits of plastic that seem to act as keys to playing the game anyway. Most games need patching when you insert the disk anyway... thus requiring an internet connection.

Not really ever played with the XBO when *not* connected to the internet. I assume all the games just work anyway but stay bug ridden*?

* Guessing the bugs mostly affect online play most of the time...

Your pins are stored server-side so you can manipulate them via smartglass and they populate correctly when you login to a different Xbox console.

It's probably a hangover from the "always on" vision. I expect they'll handle it differently with the new dashboard.

Pins don't work if you're not connected, which is incredibly annoying.

I was pretty shocked when I tried to change the dashboard's wallpaper with a screenshot, and it said "Nope" with an error code because it "couldn't connect to the internet". I looked in the network settings and the service status said there was currently a problem with the content and payment components of Xbox Live.

Can't change the fucking wallpaper if XBL is down? Genius.

Now I have a working Xbox One, a question -

If I commence a download and wish to power off the console, will the download continue? Is so, does this work in both 'Instant on' and 'Eco' modes?

With Instant On, not only will downloads that you have started continue, but any updates that are made available will automatically be downloaded and installed, which is a huge time saver. And has the obvious benefit of never starting a game and getting a 'this game requires an update' screen.

With Power Save, downloads only happen when the console is on.
