Xbox One Console Thread

Did you enable streaming to other devices on the Xbox one from within settings?

Yeah. It was because I didn't have the Windows 10 Media Whatsit Pack. Of course, the main Microsoft help page on Game Streaming doesn't tell you that, so I followed all the instructions on there, and checked that my PC met the minimum specs. The troubleshooting page does say that if you're running the N version of Windows 10 you'll need the media pack though.

Got that, and now it works fine. Yay! Ideal for me at the moment as my front door's just been painted, so I want to keep it open for a couple of hours so it doesn't stick to the frame as the paint dries. That means being in the room that doesn't have the Xbox One in, but does have the PC in.

I've just crashed the Xbox app by alt-tabbing away from it to type this reply though.

I purchased it months and months ago, and played four or five hours of it. Don't think I'm anywhere near finished, but somehow I've never got round to returning to it. That's not a reflection on the game though - I do want to go back to it. It is annoying that I bought it, barely played it and now it's free. I should learn to only buy a new game when I'm sure I'll be able to devote enough time to actually finish it. Now I'm panicking that October's game will be GTA V and November's game will be Alien Isolation, which are the other two games I've bought and only glanced at.

This could've been a fun kickstarter to sign up to:

BUT

They've absolutely destroyed their chances with stupid funding tiers for console owners. PC game is $15 but the bare minimum tier for any console owner is $120??

Don't they think these things through before they set them up?

Looks like the curtain is coming down on getting easy entry to the preview program:

Any spare invites to the program? Gamertag is Fargo123.

I'll send one out when I get in later this evening if no other kind forumite has already done so.

Signed on with gamertag... Perfect

Insert Forza Horizon 2 disc... Nothing

Insert Ryse disc... Starts installing

Insert Titanfall disc... Nothing

Insert Rare Replay disc... Nothing

Try Titanfall disc again... Horrendous drive noise.

Boxed up Xbox One ready for refund.

Fuck you very much Microsoft.

Power on Wii U... That's more like it.

If you haven't already try power cycling it as that tends to reset the system.

Any console can have a problem, I had to return my Wii U to Nintendo as the power board failed. None are immune unfortunately. It's just unfortunate that this is your first impression. I can assure you there's lots of us who've had one since launch and performed a crazy amount of system updates (especially for people in the preview program) and haven't experienced that.

Is it not worth persevering with?

I'm mixed with digital and physical. Digital for the games that will be played a lot, gears, fifa etc and discs for the titles that will be traded or sold once completed

Swapping the PS4 for the Xbox One was the best decision I have made

Much better to write a post on an Internet forum telling the manufacturer to go fuck themselves and return it.

Also - physical discs? Are people still buying discs?

Yep. Unless it is a game I am going to spend a huge amount of time playing over and over, there is no way I am paying full RRP (Usually £55 on xbox).

If it's at retail, I'm buying physical. No guarantees as to how they'll be supported in the future, I have something tangible to sell if I ever wish to do so and it's a better price than most digital versions.

£38 at the mo on US store for new stuff.

I am mostly digital but if it was a game I was not sure about or certainly only play through once I'd go physical and chop it in after playing. I don't currently have a physical Xbox one game (I flogged off the last one a while ago) allt he games I am playing currently are digital.

I know it's probably fine and safe, but when it comes to dropping £40 on a game, I'm not comfortable spoofing the system to get it cheaper. If they ever block it you could loose your games.

I have to admit to thinking the same from time to time but I don't think it'd be worth the bad press for Microsoft to remove purchases. I could see them closing loopholes and demanding more proof of address going forward but it's just too widespread (it's on Hotukdeals every five minutes) for them to take a stand on historic purchases and not expect it to really hurt their brand.

I don't spoof the system because I frankly can't be arsed. Worries about sanctions for circumventing the pricing are a secondary concern behind sheer, unadulterated laziness.

Someone will say it's really easy, you just set your account to - I stop them there. You've already made too much work for me.
