Xbox One Console Thread

For those 'interested' in getting a Bone, I'd personally wait for a console redesign. It's the fattest, dullest black box imaginable that eats all the room.

ALL the room.

I have it up vertically as I have no disc games to be worried about, yet.

It's a black box that makes no noise when in use.

I couldn't think of a better design, quite frankly.

Just how small is your room?

Why does it matter? You look at the TV, not the console. Plus the fact that it doesn't have a long led on it like the ps4 helps you ignore it.

I like the look of it. Oversized compared to what? The PS4 may be thinner but the hair dryer fan to compensate isn't great.

The front looks so clean - no usb sockets to look at.

I'd rather have the sockets at the front. It's a weird concession to make in an otherwise functional but ugly design (imo).

The one on the left isn't difficult to get to though

Well I never!

I have a question: I use my Bone for all 'media' stuff but annoyingly Sky Go is only on PS4 meaning I have to go get the DS4 and switch channels just for this one app. Can I use some combination of the HDMI pass-through and Kinect to run the PS4 via the Bone for this purpose? I suspect the lack of IR on the PS4 will scupper my plans.

The quality of the new Bone port notwithstanding, Prototype 2 is some of the best fun I've had in games. The story and character are dreadful, but as a sandbox to just have fun and smash shit up, it's fantastic. A really tight, focussed fun box that puts the Ubisoft style of world to shame.

How dare you have an opinion outside of the collective! Cheers for the thought. One's man poison is another man's cure etc etc.

Depending on your TV you might be able to use HDMI-CEC to control the PS4 using your TV remote.

I wouldn't run the PS4 through the HDMI-in of the Xbox because it'll add input lag to your PS4 gaming.

Yes, I did try the HDMI-CEC thing but it only does ordinal directions, select and back. Face buttons aren't mapped so no way of going searching or even returning to a previous screen in the Sky Go app, so it's useless.

I wouldn't attempt to play games via the Xbone, I just wanted to have everything via one machine and one remote when in 'passive media consumption mode'.

I looked it up and apparently Sony funded the development of the PS4 Sky Go app, hence its existence. Things don't look good for an Xbox/Windows 10 app.

Agree its functional. I also like the fact the USB socket is on the side of the console so no wires cluttering up the front.

Its also from experience the quietest console I've used for a while.

No problems with the design here. Bonus that it doesn't have a fecking great big light right across the top of it.... which is annoying in the dark watching a movie. Used to hate that on PS4 when I had one and the fact you couldn't switch the controller light off completely either.

Anyway its functional and takes as much room as any other bit of kit stacked in the average setup. Not much bigger than say a sky or you view box...

Speaking of that, is there a way to turn off the white light on the Xbox guide button? Or at least dim it. I find it even more annoying than the PS4 controller light. Ideally I'd like to turn it off when using it on the PC.

Not that I know of... the controller turns itself off anyway after a while and if using for media stuff you can get a remote too.

Not a huge biggie for me though its not as though it flashes or anything all the time. However would be good to have the option because the Kinect has a light on too... two glowing disks on a night... suppose you need some way of knowing they are on.

The Kinect looks kinda spooky too with its 3 red glowing eyes looking at you... like an evil robot from a 80s sci-fi film...

Invite sent.

What i find a bit odd is on the 360 you press the guide button and can swap between profiles easily, and the whole thing changes to that person' spec. On the One if you change profile it's almost as if the previous profile is now using the new profile's account.

My boy was playing and he had finished, so i swapped to me, went to the preview program app to send Karumba an invite, and it said 'this is above (boys account) age rating.' Also happens in games, from memory, where you swap accounts but are playing as the previous one.

Could this be because of his age i have it set so i am his parent?

Does anyone who has Kinect ever have a problem where you switch off the console (into instant on mode) and the console shuts down, but the Kinect light stays on, then goes off, then comes on etc etc and the console never shuts down properly?

Shirubagan, I've added you as a friend and invited you to the preview dash. Edit: too late!
