Xbox One Console Thread

Did they publicly apologize perhaps? That would have been great.

I believe so yes. There was this a bit after E3 http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/3880863 and I thought they did when the new guy came onboard.

To me, it just seems daft bearing a grudge against policies that never came to pass. Even more so by you who owns the console!? Do you want them to fail to render your purchase useless?

I personally don't think MS got punched in the face hard enough to justify the recent increase in sales, essentially.

They were crucified online and in the press from as soon as the announcements were made to when they were recinded and beyond (as it still continues now). If reversing those policies doesn't justify them selling consoles in your eyes, what would? Or do you just like being grumpy over things that never happened?

Another old policy reminder: Hey guys, don't forget that only 8 people in a room could listen to music out loud. If another person enters the room the Kinect will tell the music to stop!

Do you understand the difference between a policy and patent?

It was nice to see an influx of people picking up what is, a great console and talking about it. Fuck off with your negativity.

It's good to see that link.

If a friend of 5+ years breaks your heart, spits on your face and tells you constantly your wrong, it would make sense that given if they're on bended knee pleading forgiveness, you wouldn't straight away high five them as if nothing has happened.

Time is the proof. So far, so good. But you do NOT forget what happened between you and that friend. You just don't. At best you are on talking terms but not best buddies like you used to be. In Microsoft's case this is a large number of people to forgive, do they justify positivity out of us? Not until the next generation, in my view. Not until they present their policies once more and show us they know what matters for gamers, right from the get go.

As for my purchase, competition is good for all of us, as they say. You can never make Microsoft struggle, they just throw more money at it. I think I'm too nostalgic about the earlier years of the 360, so my dreams of it being exactly the same won't happen. (but they have been pushing exclusive indies again, which is good: will be getting Cuphead the day it's out).

At the same time the old attitude makes it's appearence here and there. The Halo 5 CE that won't come with a disc. The idea that if I do buy Halo Collection I'll be downloading for hours and hours (a problem all consoles seem to be having - hail the PC Gaben Future). Microsoft don't seem to care that the simplicity of using their console isn't there anymore, and granted, most won't care as much. But I'd like to think older MS did, the J Allard period was right on the ball with what gamers wanted, I feel.

We're still losing our ownership thanks to discs being next to worthless now. Of course the argument there would be that it's inevitable. Not if we carried on shouting about it.

It certainly won't stop me getting the Bone games I want, just cautious of that old friend until next time. Everyone should be.

Edit: The full priced games with micro-transactions is another thing I could have mentioned. Something that's hurting the whole industry, but MS equally haven't given a toss about it.

Xbox isn't a friend and neither are Microsoft, they are a company, one that wants your money, the policies they wanted to enforce caused such an outcry that they knew they were unpopular, and unpopular means less money.

They didn't change anything because they want to hang out with you and be bezzies, they just want your money, nothing more, nothing less.

Try telling that to the Wii U thread.

I was positive that I would want the successor to the 360 until they revealed it. Obviously if they go back to that for the next one I won't be interested.

I've got faith in Phil, though. So much better than that knob, Mattrick.

When I think about it, I'm not actually quite sure as to why I went out and bought an Xbox yesterday. The deal seemed good and I had a load of credit but there's nothing I'm dying to play. I think it's mostly a combination of having a new toy and knowing I'm probably going to get one at some point, anyway.

I seriously hope Halo 5 is good. It's the only exclusive I'm excited for.

etc...

That analogy doesn't work when MS are just a company and the Xbox is just a product. It's a pretty crazy outlook.

How do you quantify best buddies and talking terms when it's just a console you've bought?

Please do continue to take what I say quite literally.

People have confidence/trust/bias towards all sorts of companies and products. How many people bought the 2005 walkman out of the strength of the Walkman and Sony name and trusting them to make something good out of it? Do you think the majority read the reviews of the Sony software being disasterous to work with? Despite the product looking so much sexier than those iPod things you keep hearing about? Besides, it's software. Sony's bound to fix it. (they didn't, I never got it but kept track of it since, preferably, I would have rather gotten a Walkman at the time). Respect for the Walkman lives on, despite Sony destroying it's reputation.

People may get a Bone for Halo, but many more did because of the Xbox brand alone. I wouldn't call that crazy, humans just behave that way sometimes.

If that brand disgusts you (granted, you need to be reading/watching about it) with things you do not agree with, you ignore it. If it seems like they're changing, you could be happier, because you still care somewhat, but it doesn't equal to just a product. It's an investment. It's saying okay/thumbs up to Microsoft. It's one more unit for their sold records. It's one less box in the Amazon factory awaiting ownership.

Everything you buy gives some corporation the okay to carry on whatever it is they're doing. Some of the things we buy have really fucked up the world. It's not silly to be cautious and perhaps a little thoughtful. I'll still go drink a cola and eat fried chicken whenever I feel like, mind.

Bob the Toaster says hi, btw.

If anyone was thinking about picking up the new South Park: Fractured but Whole there seems to be a lower price on the Xbox One version over at Game (£26.99 vs £34.99) and you can take it down to £24.29 with the voucher code E3GAME

Good spot, the first was great

It was likely an error though as it's now back up to £45 but Game are honouring the cheaper price.

I got one because the deal looked ok, and I know I'll play Halo 5 and Star Wars.

I got Arkham with it and it's not really my kind of game. Will give it another go and see but hmmm...

I do find the Bone's front end a bit messy, need to get used to it.

That fact that more people are buying them since the policy change and it's quite clearly the games games games angle that is giving them a fighting chance in the market against Sony would, by your logic encourage Microsoft to carry on with the same policy.

The corporation has seen what sells consoles. Games. To chase further profit you'd think the logical thing to do would be to carry on pushing the games angle.

It's worked for Sony. They eventually talked about TV at this E3 but it was still about games. The same will happen with MS. BUT I suspect what'll happen is that you'll still shout "OMG I TOLD YOU THEY'D REVERT BACK TO TV TV TV!"

Lots of people prefer digital purchases. I assume your eye is on selling your game second hand. The game is available on disc. Surely only the biggest fans are buying the £200 special edition. Are they collectors or people who are chancing their arm, won't like it and are likely to want to trade the game the next week or is it something that's surely only going to be bought by collectors and the biggest fans?

Also, if you're buying the version that ships with a digital code, Microsoft have arranged for that version to release (but not unlock) a week early so people have time to download their game in time for release day.

Microsoft don't seem to care that the simplicity of using their console isn't there anymore, and granted, most won't care as much. But I'd like to think older MS did, the J Allard period was right on the ball with what gamers wanted, I feel.

If only they would completely redesign the whole UI. :( ... Oh yeah, they are.

You are moaning by and large about things that never came to be, or are part of the general state of affairs in games in 2015. Patches exist. Games are sold predominantly (by volume across all platforms) in digital form, in fact, are Xbox,PS4 and Wiiu the only systems that receive disc releases now?

These aren't Microsoft problems. They're your problems.

Microsoft have done just about everything they can to make their product as appealing as possible to their audience, from firing the old management, removing peripherals, investing in backwards compatibility, funding interesting AAA and indie titles instead of paying for COD marketing again, redesigning the UI.

Responding to their audience is what people should want companies to do, it's how you get a product you like. Compare what Microsoft have done to improve their product versus anyone else and you should be applauding them not condemning them for something they never even did.

The way I see it, this game is a poor choice for the subject of this debate. It's getting a physical release. And Halo 5 will likely be made backwards compatible on either next gen hardware or on some sort of Xbox on Windows app or via Halo5 anniversary in 2025.

Even if those things don't happen and game disappears from Microsoft's cloud, the notion of physical releases preserving the integrity of the data of a game is probably a fallacy. In this day of unfinished games going to press and requiring a day one patch, you may find that if the servers are switched off, everyone's games are switched off. Digital and latter date installers of physical versions.

I can of course understand wanting to buy an item and to unreservedly own it forever, I'm just not sure the server switch offs are particularly pressing concerns and the fragility of optical discs could be a significant worry if you let it.

In the case of the LE Halo 5 I don't think it's part of a creeping removal of consumer rights, just that someone assembling the package thought digital would be cooler. It's not inconceivable that people would think an always available library of games offers a superior experience than relying on disc swapping. I think it's the premier experience, Why would you want people paying £200 to have to the lesser experience? If I wanted the LE version and it came with a disc I'd feel like I was stuck having to buy a second digital copy to use the game and system the way I prefer. At least people who want a disc copy can pick one up in a couple of years time for a few pounds after having enjoyed the digital experience.

TL:DR - Digital Rules!

I'm really enjoying Fast and Furious. Even Ludacris can't ruin it for me. It really reminds me of Burnout Paradise when it pops up and tells me someone on my friend's list did something faster or whatever.

Apparently FH2 was on sale not long ago, bit annoyed I missed it.

Isn't it on sale now? Check the gold discounts from the dashboard - I saw Storm Island for £9.99 this week I'm sure the game was there as well. Alternatively you might be able to bag a second hand copy for a reasonable price now.

Don't need to buy Destiny again?

Give me a shout if you're getting rid of Batman please, happy to trade or cash buy ;)

Would someone recommend me an FPS with a strong single player campaign for the Bone?

I've got Alien: Isolation on the 360 already.

Destiny, Titanfall and Battlefield 4 all do their thing but are definitely not too good as single player games it would seem.

I didn't need to buy the digital copy again on the Bone after buying a 360 digital copy when it came out.

What have you got that you'd like to trade?

The two Wolfenstein games are in a bundle with about 50% off right now. Go to the Store on your console.
