Does anyone know how long Battlefield 4 is going to be £13 on Xbox One Store? I can't get on now until tomorrow night, and I'm sick of Hardline, but I'd hate to have to pay £30 to buy a game I've already paid £40 for on Xbox 360.

Sales generally run until around midnight on Monday. .

Don't forget EA Access is currently free for a week for Gold members so you can download it for nothing from there if you like.

I just realised they didn't even mention Killer Instinct at E3. I guess [hope] they are saving that season 3 announcement for Gamescom along with the reveals of Crackdown, Scalebound, Quantum Break and Raiden V and maybe something on the next episode of D4.

Thanks for the replies. In the end I just went and turned the Xbox back on and purchased it.

I know EA Access is free this week, but 7 days from now that's no good. And as good value as £20 per year sounds, quite frankly the only game that interests me is BF4.

That Gears Beta is a waste of time. I don't want to play Gears with randoms, it's a bit shit. I want to play with my mates. Doesn't let you party up and play, or even just invite a friend into a game.

It's certainly re-confirmed for me how bad TDM is in Gears. Getting isolated when the spawns switch is no fun at all and 3-4 enemies come piling in.

They've definitely some work to do on the control side - weapon pickups are really unresponsive, which I can only assume is something to do with how they've blocked weapon-sliding (which is for the good) but it does make it hit and miss whether you actually pick stuff up. Grenades are weird - they're not Gears 2/3 style nuclear explosions, but I was killed by one behind cover but perhaps that's a glitch. The hit-boxes for sniper headshots seem a bit off, I had several shots that scored clear hits but no headshot, although I do recall that happening occasionally in the original game. Not sure why they've added a massive blue or red highlight to players once they're a certain distance away, it makes sneaky flanking really hard when you're outnumbered.

It's okay, certainly not as good as I remember but without a 360 I can't tell if that's how it was or a result the remaster. Canals looks pretty and hopefully they'll put Warzone in the final release.

You got that dash invite on account of heritage(surname). If you misstep I will Jon Snow you into oblivion. No more posting tonight.

So I just received the message on bone glass, on my phone, on the bus. Can I use it remotely to connect to the bone... No, wait, it doesn't give me a remote dashboard, does it?

nvm. Thanks again!

I just got my invite through for the dashboard preview. For those still waiting, it took about 36 hours to arrive. 30 seconds to install and now waiting for the dash status to change from pending. Thanks again Bignige.

Not one, but two, but three mega exclusives to be missing out on. On top of No Man's Sky.

I'm a very disappointed Xbone owner tonight.

Don't worry Bastion, we've got loads of quality games to play while all those PS4 owners are sat patiently waiting for another couple of years. You'll be able to pick up a PS4 pretty cheaply by the time any of those games arrive.

I don't know why you'd be disappointed really though, the MS conference was brilliant.

So I set my new Bone up last night. Bloody hell, it's a huge block of a console, isn't it? After a long update, I inserted Forza Horizon 2 to be met with even more updates and a really long install. Left it on overnight and it was done this morning. Is this normal? I dread putting the Halo collection in, considering how many patches that's meant to have had since release. I like the controller a lot, but not convinced by the dash: I'm struggling to find anything.

Anyway, I accepted my friends invitations but haven't received the invite Yoshimax sent me yet.

Yes, both FFVII and Shenmue are way way off. I was a bit peeved watching the Sqeenix show yesterday and seeing both Star Ocean 5 and Nier 2 showing as 2016+ PS4 exclusives when the earlier games came to 360 but there are so many good things coming to this platform this year, why worry about the future?

The initial set up of games can take a good 10-20 minutes sometimes. But once that's done you're good.

Just make sure your console is set to Instant On (it would have asked you at setup), and updates will download while you sleep.

Unless you really can't for whatever reasons, this is probably the most important thing with an Xbox One. If you don't you can be treated to multiple GB patches and updates three or four times a week.

Annoying thing for me is we have to have both of our XB1s in low power mode. If we don't they always get strict NAT problems and stop us playing together. Having the proper shut down was the only way I could sort it.

Am I the only one uncomfortable with leaving electronics on standby all day, especially those which draw significant power when not in use? The XB1 draws 15 watts in standby mode.

Nearly half of the Xbox One’s annual energy is consumed in connected standby, NRDC says. “The console continuously draws more than 15 watts while waiting for the user to say ‘Xbox on,’ even in the middle of the night or during the workday when no one is home,” the report explains.

Back of a fag packet calculations ahoy:

15w for approx 20 hours per day, 365 days per year comes to about 110kwh per year. At 10p per kwh this is over a tenner per year spent on keeping the machine on when not in use.

I know it is not huge amounts of money, but it does seem an unecessary waste. Even at half the energy usage in standby I make sure my PS4 is powered down when I finish using it. The PS3 had a really neat feature where you could tell the machine to switch on once a day to do all its online housekeeping, downloading patches, updates, and any games in the download queue, before powering down to a minimum power mode. It is a shame that current consoles do not seem to do this.

I agree. I wish there was a middle option of the Xbox periodically checking, once or twice a day maybe, for updates and patches and then downloading them before turning completely off again. The standby mode does seem a waste in an age where we should really be trying to cut down on electrical waste.

With the low powermode, the only annoyance for me is the updates. Luckily because I have a relatively good net connection, they usually only take 10mins. A friend of mine cant get more than 4mb where he lives. For him, the standby mode is a requirement to get patches. It took him nearly 24hours to get MCC installed and patched.

I wish there was a "Check for Updates" button you could click, and it would queue up every update available to you in your download list.

Yeah, open these discussions to a broader base of people, though, and it inevitably goes one way. There was a thread on Neogaf encouraging people to use 'rest' and 'standby' modes less and the knee-jerk response, nine times out of ten, was 'I don't care, I can afford the electric bill.' Trying to explain to those folk that you were a bit more concerned about the environment would be a waste of time, as their brains don't work that way.

From what I'm reading on twitter, They seem to be planning special edition versions of games that'll come with branded extra parts for the forthcoming Elite controller.

So you can get your Jaguar on.

I still can't get on the gears beta a day later, says I'm not authorised still. :( anyone else had this issue and sorted it? Redeemed both codes and have hard reset a few times

Edit: solved it, if you press the menu button on the gears beta and click manage game it will have "beta access pass" ready to install, I guess it never installed as I have about 6 games installing at the moment

http://www.videogamer.com/news/xbox_one_dashboard_up_to_50_faster_with_windows_10.html

Xbox One's forthcoming Windows 10 user interface offers up to 50 per cent faster performance, according to head of Xbox Phil Spencer.

In an interview with Giant Bomb, Spencer spoke about about the improvements coming to the dashboard.

"For us the Xbox UI focussed, my push within team was all about performance, because there are just certain things in the dash that are too slow. And I'm basically on my Xbox every night, and then, so, I wanted to one: keep you close to the game, and allow you to do things, finding your friends, matchmaking as quickly as possible.

"We are getting some benefits from Windows 10 coming to Xbox One in terms of performance and other things that will show up in the user interface," he continues, "for common tasks, we're almost 50 per cent faster in our dash in terms of button clicks and speed between things, which for me is just critical."
