Xbox One Console Thread

I picked up Far Cry 4 today. I don't even have my console yet.

If no great deals pop up by Friday (which is when my new TV arrives) I'm just going to get the console and GTA V from Tesco for £299.

I'm sure that most people in here already have the console, but if there's anyone checking in for good deals, I just pulled the trigger on one I saw on HUKD:

Xbox One

Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare

£270 once you apply the code FEBDEAL10% at checkout.

8% Quidco too. Though using a discount code I'm not sure if that'll go through. Still, worth a try.

MS closes Phantom Dust developer, claims game is still in development.

Dodgy.

Lords of the Fallen removed from Ultimate Game Sale, Developer baffled by decision.

It was only supposed to be part of the weekend sale and will return on Friday according to the comments in that article.

Meh barely known 3rd party company hired to make update to barely known IP, MS don't like how it progresses, cancel contract, move internal. Phantom Dust was always only ever going to sell to a handful of people anyway just like the original.

I expect there's about 5 people on the forum that even played PD when it came out in the UK.

Super slow downloads here too.. and Xbox Support Twitter seems to keep writing it off as something on user-side. Which makes the growing threads about it across the internet very confusing, in that case.

Sigh.

As a point of interest, while the 'Bandwidth Usage' screen in network settings shows 1MB/sec or so (rather than my usual 5 or 6), the 'Detailed Network Statistics' screen (or whatever it's called) reports the full 58-61Mbs speed my Virgin connection is supposed to be. If I sit on the bandwidth usage screen for a minute or so, the amount downloaded goes up by about 15-20Mb... but if I go to 'Detailed Network Statistics' and let it test my connection, then go BACK to 'Bandwidth Usage', the amount shown as downloaded (in the less than a minute that whole process takes) has leapt up by around 100Mb.

So when it's testing the speed, it gets the full connection speed... but when it's actually downloading files and the like, it's five to six times slower.

Again - sigh.

I should clarify, as it's caused some confusion elsewhere...

The bandwidth usage screen said I'd downloaded about 100MB in the minute I was away from it while I was testing my connection. The actual ongoing game downloads didn't change percentage at all in this time - the active download (Lords of the Fallen) was at 3% before I started checking everything, and was at 3% still when I went back to it a few minutes later.

As 1% of Lords of the Fallen works out at around 50MB, if that 100MB was actually related files and not 'junk to do the speedtest with', it should have seen some motion from 3%. It didn't. :(

Yes I phoned Xbox support and told them it must be a problem at there end and they said something in my bedroom was causing interfance with the WiFi. I told them it was on a wired connection And they still stood by there was something interfering With my connection in my room.

Your max download speed has nothing to do with the max speed you'll download from any particular site; instead it's all to do with their max bandwidth.

Understood, and was aware of that.

My point lies solely with comparative difference in downloaded data stated on the 'Bandwidth Usage' screen during game downloads and following the 'detailed statistics' speed test - it appears to show that the process of testing said maximum bandwidth on the console is experiencing no similar issues to actual game downloads, as it results in the Xbox's own usage screen saying it has downloaded around 100MB of data in a minute or so while performing the test. Meantime, actual downloads being in progress for the same period of time result in the usage count going up by around 15-20MB only.

As such, there's nothing affecting the ability of the Xbox One to actually download data at this speed on my side of things - no router set up issues, nothing wrong in configuration, no storage problems, no need to 'move the router closer to the console'.. which is all the @XboxSupport account is telling people to do on Twitter. Instead, it seems more to be the case that the answer is 'we've got a good sale on for once, so some of our game download servers are getting hammered'. :)

Danger Box V2 LIVES!!!

Sat for a few hours last night trying the Emergency Offline Update thingie where you force boot from a memory stick with firmware on it. Console still wouldnt work. Spoke to microsoft and they gave me a 22mb file to put on my memorystick and force boot with that one in the machine and it reset to factory settings. Fixed it.
