Everton played exceptionally well and Felliani targeted Carrick with Everton hitting long, diagonal balls towards him at every opportunity. Felliani played very well and even when Vidic swapped with Carrick, Felliani won most of the balls in the air against him. If Utd are forced to keep Carrick as centre half, they'll struggle to pick up many points as they look so vulnerable and most teams have the option of a striker who's good in the air. I would hate to see Carrick playing against Stoke City in that position. It looked to me that Everton had already played a handful of games as they looked sharp and played at pace and pinned Utd back whereas Utd didn't look ready.

Everton were fantastic though and well worth the three points. I thought Jagielka, Distin and Hibbert were phenomenal at the back and their midfield worked so hard when they didn't have the ball.

The televised games so far have been superb.

Ferguson is such a horrible old trout. Massively moaning after the game.

It would be nice if he could hold his hands up once and just accept it.

I'm surprised he didn't complain the Man City game didn't finish at the same time, lots of injury time LOL

At least he doesn't act like Dalglish.

Fellaini's performance wasn't just based off his aerial presence though, some of his flicks and touches were Zizouesque, particularly the pace and calmness with which he was taking them. Inclined to agree with Gary Neville's postmatch analysis, I don't think any centreback would have been able to handle a performance of that level. Only exception I can think of would be that Lucio/Samuel pairing Mourinho had at Inter... and well they wouldn't have handled him in anyway that could be considered fair or sporting.

That sounds like a tackle isn't called a tackle if a foul is given. Because he definitely missed tackles that resulted in freekicks last night.

That system would make Scholes sound like a complete defensive legend.

Something fucking fishy is going on with Man City's transfers.

The Rodwell and Sinclair moves just don't sit well with me. I just can't believe these are the players than Mancini think will be able to push them to the next level of European's footballing elite.

I really, really hope this isn't some cruel homegrown player jip to avoid the wraith of FFP or something similar.

Anyone else questioning the motivations here?

The quota rules for homegrown players are almost certainly what he is thinking of here. Probably means Adam Johnson is on his way too.

Every club will have to name a first-team squad of no more than 25, of which a maximum of 17 may not be homegrown players.

The Premier League defines a homegrown player as a player who "irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)."

EDIT: Although it seems City are OK on this front. According to my rough calculations, they have 12 homegrown players in their squad (according to this squad list on their website). Remember it doesn't mean a player has to be English, so Clichy counts as homegrown. So I have no idea what Mancini is up to either.

EDIT 2: Yes i'm bored.

Not bothered if Sinclair goes, take away his pens from last season and he offers little. He slows down play when he gets the ball and is too predicatble in his play. We are sigining Pablo Hernandez as a replacement who looks like a better player.

I'd be worried if Man City were signing Dyer.

I suppose he's buying players happy to be outside the first team and it makes sense for them to be home-grown, really. Not as much for rules now, as potential changes in the future. But it's hard to imagine either are going to have a significant impact though. They're both decent, but they aren't going to win anyone a Champion's Cup.

I'm struggling to see how Sinclair for Johnson is in any way an upgrade. I don't want to moan as this is the best time it's ever been to be a city fan but it seems a bit strange that the new recruits are players that their clubs seem quite happy to let go.

You could argue that it's practically cheating on Man City's part. Having a striker they won't play scoring goals against their rivals for a team that pose a fairly insignificant threat is a pretty good way of helping yourselves out. You could take it to its logical end and say that if City 'gave' a player to every team outside of the top four they would be practically guaranteeing a larger point gap between themselves and any other potential champions. Also a good reason why Premiership clubs shouldn't be allowed to loan each other players. It's a load of old shit if you ask me.

The cheating part only really holds water if it's intentional though. The only reason they are having to do this is because they fucked up. Is Santa Cruz still a City player?

Agree on the loans though, hopefully the U21 PL will mean less youth players need to go on loan (which is possibly the only reason it should ever have been allowed) and they will ban it completely.
