Can anyone summarise that for people who can't stand Jim Sterling, but are morbidly interested in whether or not he's having a dig at Dark Souls?

He's not having a dig at Dark Souls. It's actually made me interested enough to give it another shot after bouncing off it twice.

Nah, he's not having a dig at Dark Souls.

He's explaining how the the story of Dark Souls is clearly very political, even though it's all fantasy and dragons, and only given through snippits of lore in item descriptions etc., in response to someone taking the piss out of him by saying he's daft enough to think even the story of Sekiro is political (ie, someone who thinks claiming game stories are political makes you an idiot).

It's a pale shadow of the greatest dark souls video ever made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7Td0aesimw

Political friction is a bit of a trope of this kind of classic medieval-esque fantasy format anyway, so it's not that much of a stretch. ;)

No he's not having a dig. He is just drawing some equivalences between dark souls and real life politics. Like you can with most fiction.  As if he has come up with some startling revelation.

Its really not a very good watch.

He’s not claiming it’s a startling revelation, he’s saying it because most people who consume games and YouTube videos are moronic Nazis who think suggesting this incredibly obvious thing is crazy.

If you’re on twitter please signal boost this:

More:

Marc Ten Bosch

Alexis Kennedy

Ken Wong - not sexual abuse but still abuse

Michael Antonov

Vlad Micu

I’m so fucking disappointed in my industry right, but sadly not surprised if I’m honest with myself.

This is not the way anyone would have wanted any of this to go.  Any one who followed Alec’s personal twitter could see he hadn’t been doing well for a long time, way before this past week.

Edit

And the usual GG assholes are kicking off about how Zoe Quinn is responsible for this death.  Fuck everything right now.

FFS neg. What the fuck are those recent responses in this thread? Does it seem like reasonable things to say if you hear about loads of sexual assault? Even "in the pub" or amongst closest of friends those posts are amazingly ignorant to make.

In this same thread when this whole thing started you even had an alleged moment of clarity about trying to be better etc and you're clearly full of shit.

Problem I have is that immediately is one way things are perceived until the full facts have been given. Journalism I do not trust. Zoe Quinn I have always been suspectful about. But it’s hard to say when I’m not the victim or I am directly involved.

Not the first time she’s gone to the media to report these kinds of incidents well after the fact. I mean after the first time you’d think she learn about how to handle it. I’m just thinking out loud.

Alec Holowka is now dead, if this is all bullshit this is something she has to live with. There’s victims that are voiceless that could set them back.

Hopefully I’m wrong. But I smell bullshit.

Don't. Take some time to make a measured, considered response.

If he did what he did it was awful. The fact that he's killed himself is awful. Don't "think out loud" and blame accusers because you've read about them from arsehole gamergaters. Fuck me the internet is poison. Get fucked. You as well, NEG. Get fucked.
