Not very happy to hear about this. Rapp was always great to have on the Treehouse streams that NoA did for some of the games. On the other hand, I can't say i'm surprised. Rapp's days were numbered the moment a noted anti-pedo and sex trafficking foundation stepped in and demanded her resignation.

I might be being stupid here and of course I know nothing about her termination but didn't she get fired for defending child pornography?

The quotes from her thesis in the articles I was reading last night were pretty strong.

You lot would know better than I would, I'm not saying that's the full story here.

It makes NoA look like a bunch of spineless asshats chasing the Internet's approval. "Oh, you don't like this person? No problem, fired."

Everything im reading this morning though says that's not the case. What's this about her taking a second job with someone Nintendo don't approve of?

I mean if she got fired off the back of the Internet abuse then that's fucking bullshit but this story seems all over the place. It's hard to get a grasp on what actually happened.

Gamergate's perfect woman is the woman who fronts their campaigns and is their public face, and who is also a cartoon character they invented to deflect criticism that there were no women involved with Gamergate.

I think what really annoys me about all this is that Nintendo have not once come out and condemned the abuse at all. Whatever the reason for her sacking they should've came out prior and slammed the trolls and harassers.

Spineless company.

From Klepeck's articles it sounds as though  even some gators are confused by all of this and didn't want her sacked. Sounds like there's a Gamergate/People's Gate of Gamers/Continuity Gamergate sort of situation.

Nintendo meanwhile, christ.

Meanwhile, notch is now happily sharing CH sommers videos if you were in any doubt about him.

Can't help feeling he is going to end up as gaming's Howard Hughes.

Thats rather baffling considering when he first moved into his super mansion two of the people invited were Anita Sarkeesian and Felicia Day if I remember correctly.

I can't imagine moving thousands of miles away from home into a mansion on a hill surrounded by celebrities. It just sounds awful. It's not like you're going to wander down the road to Swayze's house and ask if he wants to play some Streets of Rage.

Suddenly becoming extremely rich genuinely sounds like a very difficult thing to deal with. I'd be happy to give it a try, like most people, but it sounds like it takes more effort than you would think to stay sane and become happy afterwards.

It's absolutely ridiculous to pin censorship of Nintendos games on this person when Nintendo have been doing it since the 80s, the only way this can be read is them jumping at the chance to ruin another womens career, and then making up a motivation for why she deserved it in retrospect.

I don’t even understand why gamergate want her to be sacked. She’s a Japanophile Nintendo employee with a laissez-faire attitude to porn, who sells fruity pictures of herself with pieces of videogame hardware - surely she’s Gamergate’s perfect woman?

She's a self described feminist which I'm guessing is reason enough for them. That being said I don't think it was GG this time despite similar tactics, this appears to have been carried out by a much larger organisation.

It sends a pretty clear message though. "If you do not agree with us 100% we will destroy you."

She's lost her job at Nintendo. That's not coming back. Her PR career is totally ruined within the field of gaming, possibly completely ruined as a whole. And given her google profile now with loads of insinuation that she's some sort of advocate for child abusers it's difficult to see her gaining any sort of employment at all unless she changes her name.

A couple of years ago we laughed at some individuals wanting things from the gaming press like unfettered rights to post in commment sections and possibly some sort of editorial presence.

Well now Nintendo have shown them that they have the power to act as HR, they can just repeat this tactic over and over until they get the person they want installed or just make the position/field entirely toxic to minorities. (Want a job in games? Have liberal progressive views? Go right ahead, look what happened to the last person.)

It's hard to see any solution to this whatsoever now.

As for Notch, this is pretty much another "win" in the culture wars. Are liberals like me going to tell their kids or our friends not to play Minecraft? Of course not. It is the most important video/computer game ever made. It is gaming's Citizen Kane.

But kids are going to model themselves after Notch. And why shouldn't they? He's become mega successful in his own right! And he's reaping the rewards of that success.

So of course they're going to emulate his views.

It's completely understandable why Notch would find more reward from Gators than the liberal left. You're not going to get kudos or a big shiny medal for having progressive views.

Can't somebody organise a boycott of Nintendo over this?

I'll stop buying their products myself, but as the last thing of theirs I bought was Wii Music it probably isn't going to make much of a dent.

It sounds like she earned the ire of gamergaters by censoring things that sexualised teenagers, which she wasn't actually involved with.
Then when they found out she wrote a thesis in which she defends Japans cultural right to sexualise teenagers and disagrees with censoring it, instead of realising that she was on their side all along, they decide to use it as evidence that she's a paedophile sympathiser.

can gamergaters agree on anything other than women shouldn't be allowed?

I woke up this morning with the sun shining in my eyes and blue skies stretching across Bath.  And then I caught up on this thread. Alison Rapp sacked, notch being a turd, and I just read this

To top it all off I didn't have Neg ignored so I read all of his fucking posts.

What a shit day.
