The Wonderful 101 - from Platinum - directed by Hideki Kamiya

The camera inside moves around when you move the control pad around. The outside screen shows

a circular meter lighting up, you had to fire at the Platinum symbol when the light is on the large button or you get hit in the face by a giant baseball.

Yeah, I got the moving camera thing, trouble was it kept going wrong to the point where I was basically doubled up looking down at the pad pointing back at me just to get the camera pointing forward!

I'm not too worried about getting a good rank on the first play through, it's pretty impossible to do that anyway since you need time to study enemy behaviour, get upgrades and locate the hidden battles. Just going to enjoy the punishment, push through with continues and soak up the crazy character and comedy moments...initially Wonder Blue was annoying, but he is my fav at the moment. I've been replaying the Easy A mission a fair few times, great place to practice a few key skills (especially the bit at the end with the 3 Hoedowns). Should be able to afford the Hero Counter today, fishing in the rivers certainly helped get the cash.

I think the right shoulder button will sort out the view on your pad, i had the same problem with the pad view going horribly wrong.

The L button is your best friend when in pad view. It swivels the camera around to whichever way your main man is facing.

I've just done a brilliant pad play section in 004-A. What most impresses and pleases me is that, aside from Nintendo's two minigame collections, this is lightyears ahead of other Wii U titles in it's creative use of the gamepad. Platinum have set the benchmark here that Nintendo's own full games now have to aspire to. Zelda's the obvious future title that comes to mind. 101 demonstrates that there's absolutely tonnes of potential for using the two screen for puzzles and action sequences and boss fights. That 004-A section I've just done would suit Zelda.

Yeah I'm loving this. It's mental and jam packed with energy and colour and ideas and the shapes are a piece of piss to draw properly.

Thanks for the pad view tips chaps.

One of the boys is playing it now and having a great time. He got a better rank than me on the tutorial level but he had me giving him hints whereas I had to work it out for myself. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I am loving this game at the moment. Despite getting my arse handed to me on Normal mode. I can feel myself getting better at it, anticipating the unite morph QTEs and timing my Unite Guts moves to rebound attacks as I move on. There are clearly many layers of depth to be uncovered as I progress.

That first level too. I bloody love that prologue!

This entered the charts at number 22 and number 14 for the individual. That's how bad the taste of the British gamer has become. This should be number one.

I decided to buy this over the bank holiday weekend due to the excitement in this thread and the one on neogaf and went to Curry/PC World/Tesco and then Toys R Us, none of which had it (nor did any of them have Pikmin 3. Toys R Us did have Super Luigi U at £40 though), so I just came home and ordered it on Amazon.

Is it any wonder it hasnt sold well if it's a struggle to even buy the game.

Often when you're fighting it tells you one of your heroes has rise in rank, or you've gotten some achievement or other. Is there any way to see all your squad members and their ranks and your achievements and stuff?

Also sometimes you earn new moves during combat, but I'm not sure why. Is that just from repeated use of a particular weapon?

If you press up on the d-pad, you can see all your heroes, their levels, and select who you want to use for each morph type. When the average level of heroes of a given colour hit a certain point, that's when you unlock new moves. There's more info here.

As for achievements and stuff, all that's in the pause menu under "files".

In other news, I'm pretty sure that this is the best game on the Wii U right now.

That's unfair, has it been marketed at all? Other than rllmuk the only place I've seen this discussed is on igns youtube channel.

Still a bit confused about changing your leader - other than increasing the level and average level of your team, are there any other benefits?

Other than getting to play as a guy with a Polaroid for a head, obviously.

I think it unlocks custom block spaces too. I like the way the leveling unlocks skills, forcing me to use Unite Hand attacks to get the rising uppercut and stop focusing on the Sword all the time.

Anybody tell me how to trigger the missing battle in the first mission after the prologue? I'm missing the medal 4th from the end, played that mission loads of times but just can't find it. Feel free to pop it in spoiler tags if you know ;)

Probably been said already, but I love the way this connects with Miiverse - being able to screen grab, write a message and send during the game does feel next gen awesome to me. I've already used it to get help on a certain section, which I would have figured out myself of course, but was nice to get involved in the community. Is this standard on Wii U games now?

It's died a death in Japan. :(

It's sold just 6,663 in it's opening week. Did Nintendo even bother to let people know it was out??

Is that total sales, or have a lot of people perhaps picked it up on the eShop (did they do the same Pikmin 3 promo out there?)

Weep. Poor old platinum. With this and anarchy reigns completely failing to sell this year you wonder how much longer they'll be able to carry on. Not even metal gear rising sold particularly well, although probably better than any if their other games

I don't understand it. They produce some of the most polished and visually exciting games out there, yet they just can't capture a mainstream audience. I fear they need to be under the wing of a first party publisher, working to showcase a particular hardware, rather than out there jobbing for third parties.
