Gotta love it... everyone spunks over the great online integration that Dark Souls had... and now Nintendo are enabling pretty much the same kind of thing on ALL GAMES... but because it doesn't look angry and muscly, the insecure crowd are calling it shit.

Way to miss the point. Have you even played Dark Souls?

So was Kinect an admission that the 360 pad wasn't enough as well?

It's clearly a sign that Nintendo pandering to the fps crowd and usually like to be unique. I'm surprised because I thought their focus was on the controller with the screen.

360 controller for the wii u? That's pretty much an admission that the wii u iPad controller is not enough in its own right.

More worryingly it divides development because you can't rely on that second screen always being there, therefore it's not worth putting a lot of effort into doing anything really cool with it. Fortunately Nintendo will put some effort in but it will always be secondary mechanics because at any moment you may switch to viewing the game on the Wii U controller.

The problem I see with it is that unlike in the Souls games, it doesn't look like something that will be integrated into the game world.

Depending on the games, I'm going to buy it. And nunchucks and wiimote. And the 360 rip off. I completely missed out on the Wii and Nintendo have positioned themselves to be the all-in-one device that can also play Mario and Zelda, games which I've missed this gen.

Are you my long lost twin? My thoughts exactly!!

Although I hope A: They'll continue selling nunchucks for some years to come or B: they'll allow alternative forms of control in their waggle-only games (like Super Mario Galaxy) by means of the new tablet-controller or Wii60 control pad.

I find it strange that Nintendo pre-announced all this before the conference. Ultimately, there wasn't much meat there. Nothing a well-made promo video couldn't have covered in a few short minutes.

Lest we forget, it wasn't that long ago Scott was wading into threads on a regular basis accusing people who enjoyed online gaming of being creepy weird saddos as opposed to healthy and successful Redknapp-esque families who preffered to play against their gran on the sofa. Now Nintendo are finally giving a shit about online it's THE FUTURE!

At least with the Pro controller, you wont have a second screen sapping what little power the GPU already has.

Although you've phrased it in a somewhat embarrassing fashion, I wonder if you'll end up seeing games that run at different resolutions or with different/marginally better effects when used with the Pro pad rather than having to slave to the game pad.

edit - I mean specifically for multi-platform stuff like COD, so the Wii U version could be potentially the definitive version.

I'm confused. Are you saying more control options is a bad thing? Are you reaching that far?

And you didn't answer my question: When Microsoft said, "You are the controller!" was it an admission on their part that the 360 pad was not up to scratch? Or were they just trying to broaden the consoles audience? Kinda like, ya know, offering a standard twin stick pad on the Wii U.

(My comments about possibly no 3DS coverage at the E3 presentation)

Why'd you think that?

[media=]

29:20 onwards makes it sound like 3DS announcents will be at "other upcoming opportunities" as they are focusing on the Wii U.

I still think this is a conceptual nightmare of trying to be everything to everyone. Such an odd mish-mash of ideas, and they're already basically encouraging devs not to use the tablet controller properly.

I take the controller pro to basically be - 3rd parties, you have no fucking excuse... if you can't be arsed even trying to do something unique, then there's a standard controller (with the sticks in the right place).

Well yeah - but if the Pro Controller's not boxed with the console, will people pay exra for it? At will it be in with a sufficient attach rate to entice developers?

As others have said - might also mean people less willing to experiment on the Gamepad. Seems an odd choice to divide focus.

Eh? The Gamepad will ship with every console? Why won't developers rely on it being there?

I still don't give a fuck about online gaming. I don't mind though if a mate of mine is playing the same game and can offer help for that game while I'm playing it...

It's one of the reasons I prefer the PS3 over the 360 (I know it's not a popular opinion). It will be interesting to see how well it works, having the buttons and the dpad above the sticks seems to work better - time will tell.

Yes, but with the PS3 you have both sticks in the "wrong" place.

The should be positioned to you thumb sits correctly on top, move thumb up to go up etc.

In the "slanted" position, you move you thumb to the side to move the stick up. Etc.

Bit concerned they didn't mention anything about FriendCodes or how that side will work.

Me too. Would be a massive oversight if they get all these social network ideas working only for the whole thing to be undermined by friends codes.

It deserved a bit of time rather than crushing it in the press conference. Plus its really so EA and Ubisoft can show Wii U playing their games tomorrow.

It doesn't matter whether it's packed in. The "Gamepad" has exactly the same buttons as the Pro controller has, so there's no reason for developers not to support it.

How so, one comes with every machine, this isnt a 360 hdd situation every machine ships with the gamepad the pro is for multi player and as an alternative to the gamepad. I dont see how that will effect devs making use of the main pad when they can count on one with every machine.

The pro controller won't ship with the console... it's like the classic controller. It's only there mainly for multiplayer games where they need more buttons or folks don't want to use the wiimote on its side.

The only thing it'll ship with is the tablet.

And I'll bet a testicle they'll release a WiiPlay type game to shift wiimotion+'s

The best bit was still "This feature won't be available on launch" which could probably describe the entire thing.

Just making an observation as its very similar to a 360 controller that's all.

I still wish they'd re-release N64 and GC controllers to be honest. The former is just whats BEST for N64 games, the latter is just more comfortable then what that....thing looks like up there. I realise it's like the 360 controller but that doesn't mean the 360 controller design is great for everyone under the sun. Feels terrible to use in some Steam games or emulators of old systems. Granted, this'll have a proper d-pad but eh...
