There was one I managed to get up that had a fully explorable penthouse on top with some notes about a Soviet diplomat, which I don’t remember being used in any quests I did.

You do go to a penthouse where a Soviet diplomat is living in a late Regina gig, although there's no guarantee it's the same building. The fact that the real Bryce Mosley's (please stand up) corpse is tucked away in a part of the city where you have no reason to go to, ever, is enough for me never to be surprised by the random easter eggs in this game. That in itself is a fun game - Easter Egg or Cut Content?

The other evening I watched a sixty second 4K video of a car driving through Night City taken from what I can only assume is a PC with, like, a whole RAM or something. Jesus H Christ if it wasn’t one of the most spectacular looking things I’ve ever seen.

It's even better when in control. I spend most of my time admiring the way the lighting works and setting up reflections and stuff.

I was in The Hague last week, and was walking down the main high street stretch. There's like this special laminated pattern on the paving stones and it was catching the light of the animated billboards. I said to myself "This all looks ray-traced". Then did a mental face palm shortly afterwards.

Found another nice little capsule mission that I'd somehow missed last night. Just down the road from the Wraith-controlled motel in the desert-

Spoiler

A small building surrounded by mines, cameras and turrets (and dead scavs). Once you manage to deal with all that and get inside, there's a dead body in front of a keypad locked door, and you piece together what happened from emails and text shards. It's nice and creepy.

Basically just another of the hundreds of hidden corpses with a bit of loot and flavour text to collect, but it's cool how much work had gone into it. I little 20 minute playable short story.

When I put the game down after finishing the main story and all the fixer gigs in early 2021, I think I'd still only seen easily less than 50% of what the map has to offer.

Thinking of doing a second run. My first was as a sneaky sniper which truth be told was boring, I rarely used any exciting implants/hacking apart from turning off cameras. Might go for a big bulky bloke with guns instead of tact.

Enjoying this blunt run. Went for shotgun with some Quickhacking on the side. No grenades, somehow my arm’s a projectile. No tact, no delicate approach. Might even get rid of Quickhacking and opt for the slowdown implant.

I only sneak when it’s needed for a situation.

40 street cred so got me the net runner legendary deck. My word, I fry two people, and usually two more standing near, in one shot before they even know I'm there. Doing it from above on a building looking down is hilarious.

I gotta stop arseing around playing digital Batman and do some bloody story missions.

Is this good/playable on the PS5 nowadays? It's 20 EUR on Amazon, wondering if it's worth grabbing.

I quick hacked someone to death last night and they died (or got knocked out, I'm never quite sure) leaning on the front of a car. As I'm walking around looting, he slides down to the floor and the car suddenly flips on the roof. That's about as close to a "yeah, I'd report that to QA" bug I've encountered in 40 hours so far. 20 EUR feels like a steal.

I'm starting to spend a bit more time down town recently and sweet jesus, I'd forgotten how good it looks. So many people, cars, Blade Runner neon that makes you squint, etc.

I think the odd occasions when you're a passenger in a car offer some of the most wonderful instances of realism. The mix of people, architecture and sound kind of all mixes together and I'm always taking snaps of it - they look remarkably realistic really.

Go for it, the game is in good shape on PS5 and XSS/X now.

Always has been. On Series X, at least.

All this talk in here has made me want to play it again. I’m lining up God of War as my Christmas game, but another run through this might take priority!

Uhhh

Well, apparently it had the odd cosmetic bug, although I never encountered any myself, and they’ve tweaked some of the UI, but underneath it’s still the same brilliant game is was right back at launch.

I know, sorry! It just does my head in that the rhetoric around cyberpunk is still that it was fucked at launch. Yes, it probably was on last gen consoles and quite possibly on PS5, but on Series X, and I presume PC, it was great. I just find it a shame that so many people have missed out on it.

Still, since they’ve been patching it, it does seem like more and more people are getting to play it, which is great.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop pulling people for being wrong about it though.

But they're not wrong. The game was absolutely fucked and unplayable on PS4 and the OG bone.
Just because the game on the One X and to a lesser extent the PS4 Pro were able to power through it all to a degree doesn't excuse it.

Also the problem with it all is they did not consider scalability at all when developing the game. I've heard this from colleages who have had colleages who were involved in the project. PC was the target platform then towards the end just lolled their way into trying to put together something on the consoles.

The next-gen port is properly amazing, and a full year of work on machines that can actually run the game and give it justice.
Even if the One X version was playable at 20 fps and didn't crash all the time, fuck playing it there when you can play the actual completed next-gen version.

My point is that people seem to think it was fucked across the board, when it’s been absolutely amazing on the next gen consoles/PC/Stadia since launch, bar the odd graphical glitch. I agree they should have been rightly pulled for releasing it in the state they did on the the last gen consoles, but I still think they got too much vitriol and I think it put a lot of people off who had a machine capable of playing it.

It should never have been developed for last gen consoles anyway. It’s far too ambitious.

To be fair I think they considered scaleability harder than any development team ever has had to in history for the last two years of development (and the year after launch).

Comparing CP2077 to other open world games running on last gen, it's kind of miraculous how much they managed to coax out of those machines.

Having recently replayed the launch PS4 version on PS5 I can indeed confirm that it was shit. Everything that makes the game delightful was still in it, but it was almost unplayable. I think we have some rose colored glasses in here.

That said it is still my GOAT, the kind of game I dreamed of playing as a kid, and the next-gen updated versions are incredible. Can not wait for (paid) DLC

I'd say half of my current 44 hours here was on the XB1 and there were some fascinating shortcuts to keep the performance up. Not just your usual bumf, like fewer cars and people, but also interesting effects like some sort of weird dithering effect instead of rendering a translucent windscreen on the bikes. And there's no way the inventory screen was 1080p, big chunky pixels on the character model.

But yes, I think they wrung about as much performance as they could out of last gen. Bit of a technical feat, shame the whole thing was (understandably) delayed such that old gen suffered initially. Arguably, it should have released only on PC, to give time for the console optimization they were clearly capable of.

Also, I meant to do missions but it was another night of quick hacking my way through random perps with, at this point, devastating efficiency. It's just so much fun.
