Just started this. I'm awful at FPS these days, and always doubly so on a pad. The VR combat training saw me get shot a lot on normal difficulty. Should I start over on easy? Or was that deliberately annoying to test you?

Edit - oops, you can change it on the fly. I wish they'd make that clearer at the start of games.

You might want to tweak the controls a bit, especially the acceleration and delay stuff under advanced. I turned everything there to 0 and then tweaked the vertical and horizontal sensitivity and it all feels much better. Also when things go bad I usually switch to my katana and start chopping, less precise aiming nessecary .

I haven’t done any crafting in over 300 hours…I’m sure there’s a point to it, but you don’t miss out by not doing it as far as I can tell.

Totally agree with the silly taunts they give you. It would have been so easy to make them more like the guys in Far Cry 2 who get audibly more scared, but it’s just one of those things they didn’t get quite right.

Good to know about the (lack of) crafting not being too much of an issue 👍

Yeah the taunts. I’d go as far to say that often enemy/npc utterances can have a massive effect on a game’s first impression. It can really ruin a context. Just have them stay silent if they’re not going to be a bit more naturally dismayed, that’s what I’d prefer.

Crafting can give you buffs to weapons you make - and access to higher quality versions of guns you have. If you put points into that area. Don't forget you can respec in the game, and reallocate skill points.

But I did more upgrading than crafting.

Yes, I know what it does, but I found you get great weapons just playing anyway…I only ever looked at the DPS though for comparing so I guess I wasn’t paying that much attention to weapon stats.

Does it make their head fall off? Then we’re good.

This year's gaming for me has been Elden Ring, wanting to finish Elden Ring so I can play something else, nothing quite matching up to Elden Ring so playing things for 4-5 hours and moving on. I started Cyberpunk over the weekend and holy shit. What a thing! It was going to be my next gen game when I got a PS5 but then delays and the fact it was a complete mess soured me on the whole thing.

But as a piece of virtual tourism I don't think I've played anything nearly as good since Red Dead 2. Even Elden Ring, which has all of this amazing architecture and a brilliant living breathing map definitely feels "video gamey." This is just an amazing place to walk around in. It brings to mind just going on a long trip on Red Dead 2 and those are some of my favourite gaming moments ever. I can see myself spending so much time in this amazing city and I'm still only in Watson!

On top of that, it's fucking Deus Ex isn't it! I mean, the stealth seems absolutely useless so far but interacting with machines and hacking shit and rifling through dead bodies for data chips or whatever they're called feels enough like Deus Ex that it's scratching that itch.

It's definitely got its "I'm thinking about it while working" hooks into me which is always a good sign.

I roleplayed my V as a Nomad who was the mechanic of her clan and scavenged, dismantled, crafted and upgraded whatever she could get her hands on, so those aspects of the game have been a significant aspect of my playthrough.

In truth, as fun as it was hunting down crafting blueprints and making ever more powerful guns, it’s a very messy and unwieldy system with its only real benefits being virtually pointless bonuses like 5% damage to crafted weapons. I played the entire game on the highest difficulty setting and it still becomes an absolute cakewalk once you hit level 20 or so no matter what you do, so those supposed perks are negligible.

The unique craftable clothing items you unlock if you level the relevant skills high enough are very underwhelming as well. Aside from upgrading iconic weapons and ensuring their damage output is commensurate with your character level, it can safely be ignored and you won’t be missing out on anything. Now that there’s a functioning transmog system in the game it makes the crafting even more redundant.

The Batman Arkham games always did this the best. If your opponents are regular gangbangers give them dialogue which shows they're nervous or scared if they're the last ones left. If you can back that up with different animations and content sensitive dialogue (for example if you've been using stealth a lot) even better. If you have the resources you can have other faction types react differently, with badass gangs or military types swearing revenge or calling for backup. Like you say it really helps the immersion, just look at what a difference it made in Halo to have enemies which reacted differently depending on the situation.

Yeah, sorry @ZOK, I got my a wires crossed there.

I’ve done another couple now,

Spoiler

the ‘go back to earth to die’ ending of the help Hanako one and the ‘be Johnny, end up alive as V’ Johnny ending (which I chose by mistake), where you end up doing a dive at a space station.

I’ve enjoyed all of them, but the last one was probably the best. But that was the one where I didn’t really understand what was happening at the very end…what was supposed to be the point?

@ZOK Regarding the second ending...

Spoiler

... V launching toward the space station is V's "one final job", attempting to go out in style - the blaze of glory. The space station in question is The Crystal Palace, it's basically Las Vegas in space - would make for some fantastic dlc.

As for the Hanako ending, that was my first proper ending*, and it's my second favourite. I just love how bleak it all is, with Saburo Arasaka using the relic to take over his son's body and ensure god knows how many more decades under his corporate rule.

*My very first roll of the credits was where V kills himself. You can actually talk Johnny into agreeing that you put a gun to your head and end it right there on the rooftop. Straight to credits, no blaze of glory. As I was talking to Johnny I thought, they're not going to actually let me do this, are they? ... oh shit!

I started the free PS5 trial yesterday having originally played the game on Series X over a year ago, so well before the next gen patch.

I’m playing in ray tracing mode and it looks really good, and the frame rate seems like a pretty solid 30fps with good use of motion blur. It feels smooth and responsive with no stuttering whatsoever. It’s still some way behind the PC version with its ray traced reflections, but it’s a lot closer now since the patch, and it’s quite comfortably the most visually detailed and intricate open world game yet, GTA VI has a lot to prove.

There are still a few janky bits such as discarded weapons floating mid air, but it’s much, much better than when I played it last, the crowd density and behaviour is better and ditto for vehicles which no longer disappear anymore the moment you turn your back.

So I didn’t intend to go for an entire replay but considering how nice it is now, I think I might.

The thing that makes me chuckle is that despite this being the future with all that enhanced technology and neural implants, I’m still driving around in a banger like a drunk on Saturday night, knocking over bollards and scaring the shit out of pedestrians, many of whom will have ended up in A&E, or worse, will little or no response from the authorities. I guess all these cuts to spending have hit the NCPD hard.

The thing this really, really needs to fulfil my Cyber Punk dreams, is flying cars. Maybe one day.

Yes that makes sense! I must admit I had thought it was a dream, as

Spoiler

when you are in V’s posh apartment the only clothes you can put on are a Samurai jacket, so you basically go to the Afterlife and meet that blue eyes dude practically in the nip.

That flying car mod looks amazing. In a nerdy, pedantic kind of way, I hope someone creates an AV (i.e. the in-universe air vehicles) mod - having any car fly isn't in keeping with the rest of the game, but having specific air vehicles would be incredible. I would love to cruise around Night City in a Trauma Team AV.

Just made it to the title screen in 4 hrs or so. No bugs that I spotted, and it seems a pretty good plot.

It feels like it's just properly launched (just two years shy of release).

I think it might actually scratch that 'big adventure' itch after Elden Ring, but without the difficulty - obvs.

On Very Hard, crafting becomes extremely useful to give you an edge. I craft and upgrade constantly tbh - the iconic knife Stinger, formerly owned by Scorpion, is GOAT once you've upgraded it to Legendary. I chuck it at people when my revolver is empty, absolutely hilarious and satisfying to fling it at someone's head instead of diving for cover and reloading. Not only that but crafting is a really good way to make money because crafting components are much less expensive than they used to be.

PS whoever said nothing is challenging once you've reached level 20 has clearly never played on Very Hard and then attempted to do a gig in Heywood or Corpo Plaza at level 20. You will get deleted.

I'm fine with not being able to pilot flying cars. There are only like 12 of that flying car the Peralezes have in Night City iirc. They are unaffordable to everyone except the mega rich, which you are not. Obviously, once you've climbed to the top you get one in 2 of the endings.
