I'm just picking random spots and driving out there to see what crops up. Loads of little vignettes - on the way to the badlands, saw an overturned flatbed with containers spilling on the ground, and a hazmat team.

One of the hazmat techs spotted me, and stammered in a perfect, scared nerd voice “You'd better get out of here! You'll be sorry.” Spot on.

Then as I rode away, clearly emboldened, “Yeah, you’d better run!”

Also, note to self. Do not idly take on guards in area called 'Border crossing'. Looks like they finally got their wall.

Yeah, I’m not really sure what I’m doing in this, I just roam around and stuff happens.

I ended up doing a mission yesterday by accident because I was chatting to Jackie, he asked if I was ready (he must have been sitting on his bike waiting for me for at least three days) so I chose the ‘give me a minute’ option to get out of it, I walked off and saw an interesting looking doorway so walked up to it, and of course that was the mission start point - next thing I know we’re stealing that stupid Flathead robot.

Google the painting scam. It’s just a cheaty bug effectively but the game is fucked in so many ways that you might as well have fun with it. I suppose that’s why I’m enjoying it - I quite like gaming systems and working around challenges in games so don’t mind that this is broken in ways that let you do that. If I’d wanted to take it super-seriously then maybe I’d be more annoyed, though I don’t see why you can’t force yourself to do that. I had more fun when I stopped caring, which was after a couple of hours.

do you need to have not picked up that deconstruct junk perk

If you get the perks that double your money from access points - you easily get 1-2k from each one - or just keep playing. I've got around 250k eddies spare but then I've bought zero vehicles because of all the free ones you get through side quests. That's the preem way to do it

Yeah I’m not sure why you would buy vehicles - if I want that Akira bike I just sidle up to a gang of rodders and drive off on it while they shoot at me.

No it’s fine with that. I got that perk super early.

Ha, now that I'm on a second play I'm going to exploit the fuck out of that, reminds me a bit of...

Because if you own a vehicle you can call for it anywhere in the game. There are many missions where you're a passenger and travel quite far, once the mission's over and there are no cars or bikes to steal, it's handy to have a good bike or car to call on. :)

But like I said, that particular bike is the only vehicle I'd recommend buying.

Ah but I like that - being away from a vehicle and roaming places you don’t know until you find one is one of the peculiar joys of open world, especially when it’s as well realised as this.

It’s horses for courses, naturally. I had a blue one of those I left outside Lizzie’s I wouldn’t mind having again, now I think about it.

On that note, quite interesting with this game that with all the bugs around NPCs changing when you turn around, traffic disappearing et al - the vehicles you use are surprisingly persistent, you can leave them and have a right old roam and they always seem to be there when you get back.

I mean, I unironically love Mean Girls, but I wouldn't necessarily choose it as a christmas movie.

(of course, I grew up without ever having santa presented to me as a concept by my parents; primarily associate family christmas food as being seafood (which I hate); my favourite 'christmas food' when left to my own devices is lasagne; and my idea of good christmas entertainment is sticking the extended LOTR trilogy on in the background and reading a book. I'm not sure my advice on 'how to christmas good' is broadly applicable, is what I'm saying!)

 It's just my brother and I for xmas dinner this year, so I'm making Beef Rendang, you know, that traditional Christmas dish. ;)

Hang on, how can you not like seafood??

Oh man, beef rendang sounds like a great holiday food. Sadly I don't think I could convince my housemate to go for it in any context!

And yeah, just never had the stomach for most seafood - particularly shellfish and cephalopods - I can force myself to eat it, but the textures and flavours just aren't for me! Which, as my (French) family christmas generally revolved around lobsters, oysters, snails and fish eggs (which I also dislike), meant I tended to find myself eating a lot of bread and salad. I mean, I'm at least thankful that French bread is delicious, and their salads varied and well-dressed; I imagine I'd have been even more distressed if I was just left with some hovis and the traditional half-wilted leaves that this benighted country chooses to consider salad!

Body parts?

I’ve only just started doing that so it may not cost much in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah, a good cyberdeck and some decent implants can be expensive. Did anyone find any top-end optics? I found slighty better ones but nothing epic or legendary. Also, the tattoo you get which offers the smart weapon use, is there any point in changing that for the Rare mod that offers the same thing (that also costs 9k eddies)?

I wondered that, I suppose if you didn't want to be sporting a Tyger Claws tattoo?

There may be some with additional perks along with smart targeting, but I haven't seen any.

Go back to Victor - pretty sure he upgraded my optics to purple/epic for free. Ditto the ballistics mod.

Could have been a bug, mind. I'm playing unpatched on a base PS4.

I stole a car that turned out to have absolutely terrible handling. Speeding towards a corner and realised I was going to take it far too wide. Unfortunately there was a bunch of cops stood having a chat next to their car and I drifted right through them

Luckily the police alert thing disappeared after I got about 100m down the road
