Sorry to disappoint, but i never play RPG's on anything other than the default Normal difficulty. I see no reason to make every encounter or side quest a chore when i'm here for the meat & bones story aspect.

I'm surprised, tbh, your Souls affection would suggest to me that you'd bump it up a bit at least.  :)

Contrary to popular belief, i don't like hard games. Souls are balanced unlike anything else. And i've always believed any game that adds difficulty options hasn't done enough to balance their game properly, so they introduce artificial parameters...the usual +HP +ATK, its so very disappointing and lazy.

This game is just as bad. You can crouch, sneak, grab an enemy, snap their neck, and DONE! You cannot crouch, sneak, stand up and point-blank Shotgun their cranium. You will get 30% off their HP at best!

The shotgun is a great weapon for downing enemies, but you still have to walk up and spend 2 more shells to finish off a bog-standard punk, even on Normal.

How does that make any sense from a balancing perspective? And why would i ever want to turn up the false difficulty? No. I do what i always do with games; i find the weak points. I find the weapons, perks, elements, and use them to exploit the unbalanced difficulty. Thats why a few hours ago i was posting about my success with Blades, even the GOG free Katana was working wonders when i could've switched to something higher level.

All RPG's have the same tropes. My interest is always playing long enough so that i understand the parameters, and how best to exploit them. Never ever because its hard work. Games are fun, and escapism, not masochism, despite my Souls background.

Man, these PC screenshots are really driving home what a load of old plums it looks like on PS4 :/

It's a testament to the engine and the art direction that most of the time the shonky textures and lighting don't get in the way of enjoying the game. It's really only in the driving mode that the performance really starts to chug. (on Pro)

I think PC players have been at a serious advantage over the past two days, even if half their time was spent tinkering with settings (me too). :sherlock:

I'm new to PC gaming, but i saw the inevitable shit-show of this years next-gen hype/demand/bots/scalpers/lack of stock/disappointment, so i decided to give my new 'work' laptop a little bit extra oomph!

And this game was the biggest influence on that purchase. My gaming laptop which i use for work is nothing compared to the real PC bad-boys, but it does the job well, and given what i've seen, i sympathise for my console bretheren, because you should definitely shelve this game until its fully optimised for your PS5/XBSX.

I've played the game for 8 hours yesterday, and 8 hours today. When a game does that there is clearly something good about it. And i know i'm not alone! The bummer is; this games release has been anticipated for sooooooo long, the actual product (finished or not) will never ever live up to everyones expectations.

But. It's here and we're playing it. And yes some players have bugs and problems. Me too. But i have never know a known a game of this magnitude to be on v1.04 after 2 days! Four patches shows they knew it was too soon, but they are not gonna let us suffer too long.

For that, i say "kudos" to the developers. And chatting with a friend this evening, we both concluded that by Easter 2021 this game will be considered one of the best.

My point being: don't judge it too harsly when they should have, but could not have delayed it again. And don't play it on console until its absolutely ready.

Games have no expiration date. Play it when its best for you, personally. ^_^

I think this is one of those late 90s/ early 00s games where the PC version deserved to be 20 points above the consoles.

Things like incredible visual improvements, even if you need an absolute chonky beast to get the most out of it, and terrible UI on console, but Infront of a monitor with mouse and keyboard it just works really well.

Honestly, the game misses the mark a few times such as:

Spoiler

Lack of car customisation, and character customisation once started.

Various bugs and performance issues.

Some daft writing, but this really does not bother me since the main character (the world itself) is so bonkers good.

But outside of that, it is sensational.

Perusing the various activities on the map, or in my case, stumbling into things. Unbelievable animations during story missions and many side missions. A bevvy of RPG skill/weapon/aug customisation options, that often are not necessary, but add huge quality of life improvements. Improvements that are tangible. And lastly, J just love the world writing. The notes you find and the emails on computers. I could spend days reading everything.

Must admit I don't mind the driving. What's the problem with it I should be noticing? Motorbikes in particular feel good.

The hotfix patch seems to have improved the visual presentation on series x a bit. Draw distance is better, stuff seems sharper generally.

I found the crappier looking car, the better it drives. Those futuristic hot-wheels are a nightmare to handle. Just make sure you have the skills points to grab some poor Mom and leave her shopping in the back seat. I feel guilty everytime due to the excellent face animations as i throw her onto the ray-traced tarmac.

Way prefer motorcycles in this. Way. I also just encountered my first hostile netrunner down at some industrial hideout riddled with maelstrom. Couldn’t find him on the cameras so I flanked with a rifle until I found him. Got so much loot. Like my entire inventory is full of rifles. I think someone said you can ping a camera to find them but I must suck at it

Coming out of the first big mission I was getting the message that I was carrying too much weight. Looked into my backpack and it turned out I was carrying 32 different guns. I suppose I'm just used to the idea that when you find a duplicate, you just grab the ammo, not the gun.

And yes, motorbikes are vastly superior to drive than cars. Need to get a good one asap.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020-12-12-cd-projekt-says-cyberpunk-2077-covered-its-development-and-marketing-costs-before-it-even-came-out

Summary:

-8 million preorders.

-recouped all development and marketing costs before release.

-executives are taking the blame for the state of the console release and devs are getting their bonuses.

My main question is why the game had to launch this year and why crunch was unavoidable if this was  the case.

Or get yourself a tasty Katana (after spec'ing into Blades), bum rush every enemy, 3-4 hit combo, stagger, charge RT, and the head comes clean off in a wonderfully satisfying animation!

The AI is not savvy enough to deal with your aggression. I've yet to meet and enemy that can penetrate my armour > health before i cut them limb from limb. Pistols and crit are for fools.  ;)

Oh dear that all sounds a little barbaric

For the non pre-orders. Poor decision. You get a game which is half ready then maybe the finished one in 6 months. Or the finished one in 6 months. Most, but not all, would prefer the latter.

Executives worried that another delay would result in cancelled pre-orders?

Yeah I keep grabbing the guns thinking I’ll sell them. Haven’t sold one yet. Don’t know how I fit in the car.

Hit a guy with a baseball bat and he flew straight to heaven like a deflated balloon. Wish id have clipped it

Got a new bug now where the sound lags a second behind everything on screen. Unplayable.

Going to cex it and pick it up when the PS5 upgrade comes out next year. Really feel like it'll be worth the wait and these story missions which are excellent deserve the best presentation possible

The current consensus on next-gen versions seems to be that it may be a long way into next year before they arrive but I have to wonder how much there really is to do. Sure, there's probably some time to be spent on the graphics engine to make some of the extra techniques and effects work performantly on the new consoles, but the really time-consuming stuff like up-rezzing / remastering content is already done; largely it's a case of getting some appropriately calibrated version of the PC game together.

I might even begin to suspect that they deliberately exaggerated the gap between releases to avoid denting their more immediate previous-gen sales - I imagine the numbers discussed in that Eurogamer article might have looked quite a bit different if people knew they only had to wait three months, say.

Almost certainly would as they needed to get the game out before the last gen consoles are completely dead.

This. Holiday season 2021 isn't viable to release such a big hyped game on the older consoles, that's already a whole year into the life cycle of the current gen. But at the same time they probably want and/or need to reach the big audience that already have a last gen console - since that audience is way bigger than the audience on PS5/XsX a year in. So that makes it so they need to release this holiday season or bust.

At the same time, it's been awhile since Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk looks like it cost a lot of money to develop. At some point they need to have money coming in instead of just one way disappearing into the development costs of Cyberpunk. Could be that they couldn't delay any further for financial reasons.

All of this isn't an excuse for releasing the game in its current state though. It started pre-production in 2012, so it looks more like bad planning maybe combined with overambition than anything else.

I much prefer the cars over the bikes. The motorbikes handle with seemingly no physics.

Not been in a vehicle with decent brakes yet like.

Eh? I reckon the bikes are pretty great, especially in terms of physics.

New DF next gen face off vid is up. Obviously this is all using back cap. Generally they comment that next generation machines offer big improvements on the poor offering on last gen. However they are clear that at the moment the back cap versions are vastly inferior to PC and for many people the next gen versions are hopefully going to be worth waiting for.

PS5 - Most stable frame rate at 60

SX - Best looking visually at stable locked 30 and slightly better visually at 60 (though 60 has a slightly wobbly fps)

SS - Surprisingly very solid locked 30 with okay visuals. “Best and solid way to play the game cheaply” They seemed genuinely impressed with this one considering.

Summary was if you are okay with 30fps get the SX version as it looks the best by some way.

If you want solid 60 then PS5 is best though image quality takes a nosedive. Even noting things like crowd density being considerably less.

In a game like this I really would rather have both so think, outside of tinkering about in the world I might wait till next year to play the full on story mode.

I'm about 15 hours in on base PS4. I often bounce off open world games after a couple of hours when the repetitive loops/copy paste filler content kick in but I'm not noticing that here.

I for one am happy they released it now on ps4 and not in 6 months as for me the main issue of the game on base ps4 is simply that it isn't a ps5/top of the range gaming pc and therefore looks like a ps4 game. It's nowhere near "unplayable" as things stand. I'll get a replay out of the shiny graphics when the free ps5 upgrade comes out and the console is actually possible to find somewhere that isn't a scalper where I am. All you unfortunate rtx3090 pc players are going to be satisfied by your initial playthrough, then what? ;)

I'm pretty confident that in a few months the game will be patched to people's satisfaction, they'll find an extra few fps for the open world driving sections on ps4, next gen console upgrades will come along to make every surface look even more like a mirror, the gamebreaking bugs I haven't experienced once in 15 hours will get patched and this game is going to be right up there in "game of the decade" discussions.

Try running into something.

Ah, I see what you mean there. The bikes can't tip over if you crash them. But in terms of actual handling physics while riding I've found them to be very much like an actual motorbike.

I won a legendary( yellow/orange is leg, right?) smart smg and it is borderline broken. Perfect gun for @choddo as you don't even need to aim. Just pull the trigger and the bullets home in on whomever you have the gen pointed in the general direction of.

Sod using that, back to the katana for me.
