Can somebody please explain Overheat or whatever it’s called. Quite possibly one of the worst ideas in the history of video games. As soon as combat starts I seem to just start dying. I can’t see how scanning works to identify the hacker, they all seem to be normal soldiers.

It’s literally a game breaker for me. I spent a great hour with the game and then combat and stupid overheat.  Does it stop me firing my gun? Is it supposed to drain my health?

It overheats your cyberware, yeah, so hurts you (or them, if you slot it into your hacking deck). There’s a perk that highlights the hacker through walls, usually they’re distant and looking through cameras, so shut those down.

27gb patch after the 45gb one yesterday is really taking the piss. Every time I'm starting to get on board with this something dumb will pull me right out of it. £36 from cex is mighty tempting, only worked out a £4 rental.

There's no doubt theres lots to admire here but I got plenty else to play and think I'll be better off when the true PS5 upgrade comes out and compiles the inevitable onslaught of huge patches over the coming weeks.

I had this earlier too. Really strange button mapping, I’m far more likely to want to come out of crouch during dialogue than I am to jump, so could I not have skip on the A button (I’m using an Xbox pad)? Daft as a brush.

I am definitely enjoying this but it’s very much a patchwork of other people’s ideas so far. Very effective but I’m not seeing anything that makes it truly stand on its own. Still early days (an hour or two into act 2) so hopefully that’ll change.

Struggling a lot with the UI and text size too, and I’m sitting about five feet from a 49” screen. I’ve barely used the hacking stuff because the scanner UI is so cluttered. I run around picking up items in (the pleasingly hectic) combat and have no idea whether I’ve actually grabbed any ammo until I cycle through my weapons trying to reload them. Stuff like that.

It’s clearly a very good game that is very obviously missing the final round of obsessive polishing that a game like this desperately needs. It’s in the sort of state a Rockstar game would be 12 months before release.

I did lol when I discovered the Talk button is the same as the “grab sitting woman having her lunch in a headlock and the only choices now are kill or incapacitate” button.

and RB was “prime a grenade in the lift, no returns” button.

On PS5/XSX we're just running the last gen version with no graphical enhancements apart from slightly better resolution and framerates.

EDIT:

Looks much better in quality mode, of course you may not like 3fps but it doesn't really effect the many meeting/talking bits.

I've just got past the part where Keanu comes into it and it's proper sucked me in now. Loving it.

Does it really look that much better on PS5 vs PS4

Probably a higher frame rate and higher resolution - big difference.

i’m playing On an Xbox one x and it looks like 1440p dynamic @ 30fps, but both can drop. Shudder to think what the base consoles are like.

Have we mentioned the ambient sound and effects in this are bloody amazing. Really makes you feel the city. Foreboding at times also.

I restarted as was  unhappy with my V look after a knackered attempt at it last night. Much happier now and back at the apartment again so time to venture out in to the world soon.

The first time I was like holy moly was sitting on V's sofa. The sound of the leather as you sit on it is just absolutely incredible. Sounds daft but it really is excellent. And these sounds are everywhere!

To be fair I'm not sure anyone would like 3 fps ;)

(except Stunt Race FX fans, presumably)

That does look very like the fucked up HDR which is really stretched SDR that Vincent Teoh talked about.

About 5 hours in now and thoroughly enjoying. Playing on Series S and the only bug I've encountered so far is when I activate my scan and press A instead of X to activate a hack, I start levitating. Will need to try outdoors to see how high I can go lol

Just a quick heads up. I just noticed that in the Clothing screen you can actually apply mods to your armour, easy thing to miss! Edit - I've just realised that its Rare or above Clothing that have mod slots.

Also even though you never really see your character, they need to add a toggle helmet option for screenshots and stuff. My character has so far worn a baseball cap, a motorcycle helmet and a gas mask, obliterating his lovely hairdo and the fine red beard I gave him. But you need the headwear for the armour bonuses.  Much dissappoint! As Skillup mentioned in his review, they really need a kind of transmog system in future content updates so you can wear what you like without it affecting your armour stats.

Yeah I was on the fence about this, was going to get it to play on the PS5 but even that's going to be problematic. Going to go and get Ghost Of Tsushima instead, then get back to this later. I just hope PS5 version is before March.

I decided to press on with the biochip heist after getting to level 12 on the starting island doing sidequests, and boy the story is getting really good.

Nice little thing in the Afterlife bar, you can overhear a crew prepping a job on a bunker, and the next time you come back their job has gone wrong and one's bleeding out on the pool table.

Question for you @RubberJohnny:

Spoiler

The meeting with the fixer at Afterlife mission is next on my list (I just did the braindance in the apartment pre-heist stuff at Lizzies), but I'm only level 6. I have done all the available sidequests that I can do, though I still have a bunch left: Kill Phsycos, Repay Viktors debt, the boxing fights and a Gig that's waiting for the lockdown to end. Am I missing a bunch of sidequests and if so, where should I start looking to find more? Did you do some of these or did you just get exp from doing random encounters? Should I hold off on doing the next story quest until I'm higher level do you think (threat is only listed as Moderate).

You can unprime your grenade by switching to a different weapon. No idea how to stop the chokehold on strangers, though.

I have now found out that my NPC stalker is a glitch, and it is both useful and annoying. The extra bullets are useful, but in terms of immersion, let's just say that while I'm hiding, and this freak is just stood there in the room but the characters simply don't notice him... yeah, I could do without that. If only he would occasionally say something, that would be bearable. I guess it's time to restart with Street or Corp.
