playing on the Series X and runs smoothly if looking a bit soft. Spoiled my experience really by watching a vid beforehand, of someone trying to get it running at 8k on a 3090.

They couldn’t?

So how are people finding the combat in this? I'm actually enjoying it (bar the aforementioned weightless melee). I received a katana as a quest reward yesterday and despite consigning it to - never going to touch - I had to use it as I ran out of ammo and it was amazing! Feels really, really brutal but leaves you exposed as anything. Finding pistols to be my favourite gun so far too. Unlike most games they hit like absolute trucks and it's fairly easy to headshot for days, certainly easier than trying to tame the recoil on an SMG or assault rifle.

Only problem I'm finding is the character almost refuses to crouch sometimes but that is probably me being cackhanded rather than the game being at fault.

Yeah, they laughed at me for buying one of those cards but who's laughing now?

Oh, they still are :(

Ah, fuck 'em!

Are you using any specific settings outside of Ultra. I was watching my brother play it last night with his 3090 and his was dropping frames in the city down to 55.

They recommend stadia unless you have a PC with a graphics card made in the last six years, a PS5, or a Series S/X.

Hardly a glowing recommendation

To be honest, I've only really played an hour or so. I just left Nvidia experience to set the thing for now and was happy to see how it run. Everything seems to be on HIgh/Ultra though - DLSS is set on Balanced. I did turn down Ray tracing to high - Nvidia thought it should be on Psycho, but I couldn't see much difference at all.

Runs well on the Series X but seems to fluctuate between looking really dated and next gen.

I’m not sure what to make of the game. Couldn’t stop playing but again it feels both old fashioned and state of the art. I’ve saw very little in the way of bugs so far.

Ok, yeah I was just surprised as my 3080 drops frames when running 4k raytracing on in the city but there again I have a i7 6700 cpu so maybe thats why. I checked  my brothers last night and it wasn't that much different to mine. It was fine outside the city, but once he got there, it wasn't great.

Hmm, CDPR are equal parts geniuses and fucking assclowns. If you turn off subtitles, and someone speaks in a language other than English, tough fucking luck.

I hate substitles unless I fucking need them. Looks like I'll have to leave them on for the entire game in case I miss an important piece of dialogue. Games should always have the option for non-native language subs.

The subtitles don’t translate languages your character doesn’t know though right? I think you get that translation with Cybermods. Sure I’ve read that somewhere.

Some impressions on a PC with a AMD 3900x and RTX3080-I was expecting the worst after reading people’s reactions but it’s running fine tbh. It’s not perfect don’t get me wrong with the main issue being the fluctuations in FPS more than anything. More often than not I’m above 60 though, a bit more optimisation wouldn’t go amiss though. Looks stunning in places too, especially the city. Character models on the main cast have been very good too. Although my character looks average in the inventory menu and doesn’t look great in photo mode either annoyingly. Probably my fault in the creator!

Only played the first couple of hours but I’m so invested already and can’t wait to fully jump in over the weekend.

Well I guess I've completed the prologue now.

Man I am looking forward to spending a LOT of time with this over the Christmas holiday. I'm still getting :o moments all over the place - walking out of your apartment in to the bustling city, it's seriously impressive. And the sound work is brilliant, walked in to a nightclub during last night's session, and the sound was like that scene from John Wick, heavy and oppressive.

I've only really played story missions so far, but going to spend more time off the beaten track I think. Just want to soak this up for as long as possible

Not surprised by that as Stadia works a lot better than I anticipated when I had a blast. The lack of games put me off though.

Have to say I'm loving this so far.

Playing on PC (2060) so no performance issues and the only bug I have encountered so far is that sometimes when I ride a bike my V loses his trousers and drives around naked from the waist down. Who am I to judge - when in Night City....

Oh you absolute shit. I'm trying to hold off on this until the next gen version is released and you've just made the wait a million times harder.

I was going to hold off until I got my hands I a PS5 also but then the game arrived ... whatcha gonna do?

im playing ona PS4 pro and whilst it makes it sound like a jumbo jet taking off in some areas I’ve not seen a glitch or poor performance yet

Played a few hours of this now on PS5 and I'm backing off til a proper next-gen update drops. It's a real curate's egg. The first impression is so odd - a kind of clash of impressive and retrograde. In its current console form it just feels a bit underwhelming to me. I think that's exaggerated by how bad it looks next to Miles Morales and Demons Souls. This feels like a game that needs to be played in its best state. It doesn't feel that fresh to me, in a way that Witcher 3 really did, partly because of overfamiliarity with the source material and variations on it over the years. I'm still looking forward to it, but I don't really want to play it like this.

Maybe it's because I started as Corpo that the game does it, but either way I fail to see the relevance of your point. Whether V can understand Japanese via a mod or just normally is irrelevant. If he can understand it, subtitles should remain on for it so the player can follow the conversation.

Other than the crouch thing, I'm in complete agreement. (I find myself accidentally crouching on occasion, instead!) Pistols are simply so satisfying to use, and have greater accuracy than the SMGs I've found so far.

I ran into a room full of Militech and sliced them all down, and it was both fun and, more importantly, so visceral. Enemies were reacting like some nutter swung a sword at them, and I'm now looking forward to using the baseball bat I looted from a side mission. With a bonus +2 Street Cred, to boot.

Can you have multiple games in progress at the same time?  If I hit the New Game button on the title screen will it wipe out my current character or let me build a second?

All your saves from the first character are still in the load screen even after you start a new one so you'll be ok

I think the most worrying thing I've heard from reviews so far is that the XP/skill tree stuff is wildly unbalanced and a bit rubbish; i.e. you don't get enough XP to really customise your V in a meaningful/good way.

Seen people say despite playing through the whole campaign and all side content, you still can't even max out a single 'branch' of the skill tree, which just seems bafflingly stupid.

I just won a competitive street brawl against these “two guys” by blocking one punch. They both fell down and I won 4000 Eddies. Fuck it, that’s a glitch I’ll take

After meeting the trainer, right? When I fought his robo-sparring partner I hit it once with a strong attack, it fell down, got back up, attacked me again then collapsed before I did anything more to it.

More on the world - it's absolutely not empty, even on base PS4. Not during the day, on foot, anyway.

This is the main reason I'm thinking of holding off. The bugs generally sound tolerable, if a bit immersion breaking, and the next-gen patch will be nice but I have a feeling they're going to end up overhauling the balance of the XP/progression system so you can actually unlock more than just a few skills. It seems bafflingly pointless to have a set of comprehensive skill trees and then not give out enough XP to be able to make any meaningful use of it.
