Maybe Mass Effect was a bit too specific. I actually meant just anything that isn't goblins and fuckin wizards.

Blade Runner will do nicely. Not sure about the pen and paper stuff, I never played that stuff as a kid so not even sure what that means but sure CD Projekt will pull it out the bag.

All formats?

Full reveal later today. As someone who is utterly bored with fantasy settings, I am so glad they seem to be going in a cyberpunk direction.

I'm up for anything from CD Projekt (with a 'k' btw ;) ) and even if it was just generic Bioware sci-fi I'd be excited about it - but the idea of them doing Cyberpunk is really getting me all hot and bothered :D

Fixed the name mistake. Cheers. :)

Looking forward to seeing the reveal later today.

Always worth following this studio - I just hope 360 sales of the Witcher were strong enough to permit console version from day one.

I don't know if it was mainly a sales volume issue.. I suspect the relatively small size of CD Projekt also has something to do with it. And of course their desire to give all the DLC and expansions away for free, which MS doesn't like at all. We shall see how it goes this time.

And even if there is a delay between different platform versions, CD Projekt games are worth waiting for :)

Thanks for that link! Who knows, this might even come to the Xbox 720 instead of the 360 if the release date is still far away.

Also, I forgot to sum up my feelings in regards to this announcement in a simple equation in my earlier post:

Witcher + Shadowrun = FAP

That picture looks like it fell through a hole in time from 1991; it’s the most generic cyberpunk image imaginable, like the front cover of a Shadowrun supplement. I mean, the game might well be great, but that’s a properly second-hand aesthetic – couldn’t they put their own spin on it?

What Dimahoo said - this is CD Projekt RED we're talking about, you know that they're going to put their own spin on it and that it will be amazing, They know RPG's these guys do.

And it's not like the cyberpunk setting has been milked dry in the last decade or so. We've had Deus Ex 3 and uhm... that's it basically.

KD Project, you say? ;)

Have you never seen the Witcher K?

They're own spin will be amazing. This will be the next Captive.

I mean...its just a simple pic.

Well, it's not really their spin on fantasy - the setting is owed to Andrzej Sapkowski, after all - so I wouldn't say we're guaranteed a fantastic universe.* However, I absolutely love cyberpunk settings, and CD Projekt have produced two incredible RPGs in a row, so I'm very excited about this!

*indeed, their ability to craft a great story in a pre-existing universe actually makes me wish they had the licence to William Gibson's properties

This is going to be the best thing ever :o

Damn close :D

-non linear storyline

-closely adheres to the ruleset of the pen and paper original (which allows them to focus on the story and setting because the RPG mechanics are already there)

-head of CD Projekt RED namedrops Blade Runner as a major inspiration

Yup, I've been watching the livestream - absolutely brilliant news! Enjoying the speech from Mike Pondsmith, too.

For the benefit of those of us on a train, what's the scoop people?

I want the setting and combat of Mass Effect with the depth of The Witcher

Am I going to be happy?

Well, we already knew it was going to be a cyberpunk game - as it happens, it's turned out to be a Cyberpunk game. Which is to say: not Mass Effect in setting; think Neuromancer/Shadowrun/Blade Runner/Deus Ex/Syndicate instead - near-future, corporation-run dystopia with an emphasis on cyber-warfare and human augmentation. Like The Witcher, it means that CD Projekt are making a game set in a pre-existing universe, but following their own story (and, this time, their own - or rather, the player's own, choosable, player character). I'm excited.

I would actually pre-purchase the game, even the expensive collector's edition, RIGHT NOW if they would let me!

I'm sort of wishing they'd make a Kickstarter of it (even though it obviously doesn't need one) just so I could pick an extravagant reward level.
