Cyberpunk 2077 - Delayed to 10th December 2020

That's effectively covering ground already trodden here - it's a video from a year ago, when the in-game poster was all there was to go on, and while worrying that it was the sole trans-representation CDPR had elected to show, it was reasonable to hope it could be contextualised further within the game (particularly as CDPR were making noises about its broad character creation options); all discussed in here in the past few pages. Obviously it led to furore, given, well, the way it looks, but yeah, completely fair to think it could turn out completely fine.

Thanks, as mentioned I did a quick search so I haven't really done any homework on the issue.

What is rather less defensible is the much more recent marketing outside of the game, with the cosplay competition and CDPR's merry publicising of a cis woman's photo in full costume as said poster, including glowing phallus, as marketing for the game; it's rather harder to justify the use of trans-fetishising imagery to sell Cyberpunk itself than it is to justify the presence of said advertising within the game - again, all discussed above. That's, again, an issue RogueValkyrie obviously can't address, as her video predates the event by a year!

I have to admit I'm completely ignorant when it comes to cosplay.

Probably worth flagging also that the specific snippet of video you've linked to highlights the very disappointment you're quoting in jonamok's post, as it reflects that at the time CDPR had promised character creation options beyond simple gender binaries, which was offering a fair bit of hope that the game's trans representation would not be defined by that poster. But since said character creation options were unveiled people have been disappointed by the 'pronouns tied to voice' decision; which, again this video predates.

That feels much more like understandable oversight than the above, of course, and there's every chance it won't be the case come launch. It's definitely the sort of thing that would garner a lot less attention if it weren't for the negative press the above has brought; nor if CDPR hadn't bigged up that they'd be including non-binary character creation options in the first place - trans gamers are somewhat used to character creators not really giving a full range of options, after all. Hell, it's a common, somewhat bitterly humourous refrain within the community that the most inclusive character creator in a mainstream game is probably that of the famously right-on, er, Saints Row 2.

Thank you. I have a lot to learn on this issue.

I don't think you're alone in that, I certainly need to learn much, much more.

But that's also why Cyberpunk is quite important here. If the actual game handles the issue well (as described above), then I imagine the noise around the crassness/insensitive/dodgy marketing (delete as appropriate) may well be somewhat dampened. But if it does it badly - and you (the royal 'you') don't choose to look any further into it then, well, it could completely skew your thoughts and opinions on the matter and, dare I say it, help lead you down a path of ignorance.

Vastly improved loading times and performance. If there's any kind of dynamic resolution going on, then also a better resolution. If there's an option to set the framerate at 60, then also 60FPS in combination with all of the above.

Otherwise if you want more shinies like ray tracing then wait.

Maybe it'll be more satisfying to start it off with souped-up current gen visuals before luxuriating in the shinies upgrade when the patch comes out. Yes. Yes I think it will be.

Cheers!

Not directly CDPR’s fault of course, but (shocking absolutely nobody) the cosplayer in question took to Twitter to respond to a poster who commented about the risks of violence towards the trans community, with a “cis people get attacked too”.

Basically the ‘all lives matter’ defence. Moron.

Oof, I'm definitely in that queue myself. Having a trans friend is helpfu  but having LGBTQ+ mates and thinking you understand trans issues is waaaay apart. I don't pretend to know much, I just do two ears, one mouth as much as poss and try and be an ally (especially when they aren't in the room).

It's a frikkin minefield, and really the only thing we can is to just keep listening to people and their experiences, and never judge them for who they are. So ends the lecture for today!

Edit: am I buying the game? No, but that's because I bought the limited edition One X months and months ago that came with the game code pre-redeemed. I'll play it without prejudice, but I wouldn't pay for it new. Not because of the trans thing - as we don't know enough - but because of the crunch thing.

Someone is going to have to explain to me what that clown is supposed to have done. Googling just brings back a load of really vague hints about something sexually inappropriate?

He busted into a toilet whilst live-streaming and there was a kid in there. Also used him cheating on his wife to promote his stream and drive subscriptions. Also is generally an obnoxious, macho twat whilst pretending it’s a “character” he’s playing, but seems to mostly attract arseholes as his viewers.

Ok, I did a quick search on CP2077 twitter and I see no mention of douchebag streamer. Do I need to buy new glasses or is this a conspiracy theory? Why are people here giving douchebag streamer attention?

Disclaimer: I'm not on twitter so I'm out of the loop.

It' most likely a false rumour that the douchebag latched onto for attention. But we don't know for absolutely sure right now.

Speaking of douchbags, I was thinking you’d have changed your forum photo by now

Everytime I see you post I was tempted to say something, I can imagine the morale dilemma you must have

Luckily I was able to find a suitable replacement.

Well, both Bob and Mario were serial rapists of vegetables, so all good I guess.
