The castle was abandoned when they got there.  Any ravens would be dead or already released.

I wondered if Melissandre was hiding out there. Dunno if she'd give a shit about feeding the ravens, but it jogged my memory.

Up to season 5. The world is a darker place without Charles Dance :(

You can't just get them.  They have to come from their intended destination.  So to be in a position to  send messages out you'd have to have several ravens from every likely destination which would likely mean hundreds of them.  Dozens at least.

Daenerys has a massive army at her command and ruled one of the biggest cities in essos, ravens with news from westeros and essos are common place. She has an alliance with two of the Kingdoms of Westeros,  do you honestly think it was that hard for them to get hold of a dozen or so of them?

Ravens are clearly a metaphor for email, given how fucking fast they travel.

Ravens is a precursor to Twitter surely.  Why write on tiny scrolls and not even on both sides if they didn't have a character limit.

It totally is.  Maesters don't give ravens away.  They aren't allowed.

Yes they are.Maesters are sworn to obey the current rulers of the castle they are serving. Once the Sand Snakes took control they would have to follow their orders.

No they have special control over ravens.  Each raven is extremely precious as it comes from its ultimate destination.  Technically a maester can refuse to send a message if ravens are in short supply.  Although this rarely happens.   But the only way for a maester to lose posession of a raven is to release it with a message.  They don't ever change hands.

Of course they do.  They give local ravens to people who need to send messages back.   They don't give the distant ravens away. Ever.

Where are you getting that they don't ever give distant ravens away from?

Maybe they took a load of local Dornish ravens to Dragonstone, because if you are going to be in an alliance you need a way to communicate. Then, when they wanted to get a message to winterfell they sent a dornish one back with a note saying "pass it on"

Maybe the sand snakes just killed the maester and took the ravens, (after torturing him to find out which ravens go where,) because  he was being precious about his bloody ravens.
