Front end for MAME on windows?

I used to use MAME all the time, via MameUI but haven't for a while. I thought I'd dig out the old rom collection and download the latest software to get them going and found that MameUI is in "maintenance mode" and that IVPlay has taken over.

On downloading and running it, it seems like it's a really basic replacement and not much cop if I'm honest.

So what's the latest and best front end for MAME on Windows, that gives me a nice menu to pick games from, and access to keyboard or joypad settings and can run games full screen?

I've had a quick look and it seems that MGalaxy is one, and there are plenty others.

Also, my ROM set is probably quite out of date so what's a good tool for auditing it so that I can filter out all the non-working games?

Personally I would just find a torrent or something for the current mame roms (WITHOUT the CHD's), a lot of games had their roms replaced or updated or otherwise changed. Best to eliminate any problems that might occur with outdated rom sets. Sure you could get an automated list of what you need, but you'll almost certainly need so many files that updating them manually isn't practical.

I miss the old Mame32 (or MameUI or whatever it was called). It had a list of all the games that was easy to navigate, screenshots, decent menu for changing settings etc.. All the latest ones I've tried seem to be set up for MAME cabs and don't like mouse or keyboard navigation or have windows type menus.

Not really, I don't play around with that sort of thing much. However, just because it's designed for a cab, doesn't necessarily mean it's not suited to keyboard navigation. The wiring in such cabs is usually mapped to the keyboard anyway.
