Good new horror films

I was a bit confused by the love for it. I thought it was ok except for basically the bit that gave it the title, which fell completely flat. Worth persevering for Larry Fessenden though imho.

Watched The Innkeepers last night and loved it! Thanks for the recommendation. Have to say I didn't find it very tense, in fact I thought it was quite funny at some points (in a good/charming way). I wasn't bored at any point though and thought the two lead characters were great fun.

Do people still rate Session 9? I’ve tried watching it a couple of times, but it seemed really amateurish. Felt like someone filming their non-actor mates, and I couldn’t get into it.

Is it worth persevering with?

Yes. It's quite good. The best bit is the ratcheting of tension towards the end. Not a classic by any means but still good.

I loved Session 9. Been a long while since I last watched. I was pretty enamoured with it for a bit when it came out, multiple viewings etc. Loved the setting, creepy place. It was mostly demolished after filming too, think it's flats now.

"Do it, Gordon!"

I'm on a free trial for Shudder. Anything on there that I absolutely must watch?

Creepshow is a fun anthology series. In terms of Shudder exclusives (I think), I enjoyed Impetigore, Host, the Mortuary Collection and Speak No Evil,

I enjoyed Speak No Evil…

Spoiler

Unbearably tense and uncomfortable for most of the runtime. I do think it’s put me in something of a funk over the last day or two. The last twenty minutes was a brutal watch. :(

You seriously need to give up your time to be watch the in search of darkness documentaries on there if you have any interest in 80's horror

The folk horror doc is also superb.

Deadstream is definitely fun. If you like that or Host, I'd recommend Dashcam too.

Dash cam is Marmite, it depends if you can get along with the lead. A chaotic mess which I enjoyed but VHS 99 is with a watch. Since the pair from dead stream did a segment on it.

Knowing that it wasn't so much a performance as just what the actor is like doesn't help.

Thought it was just a performance with her attributes dialled over 10?

Her social media is pretty vocally anti-vax, pro-MAGA. She may be playing an exaggerated version in the film but it's not a million miles from how she actually thinks. Either way, it made me question exactly what Rob Savage was trying to achieve by choosing that particular character as the protagonist.

Wow that is disappointing to hear, genuinely never heard of her before but assume it was just a role.

Watch Outwaters, and I hate it and this new genre of experimental horror that's recently become popular. Though Skinamarink I did enjoy ,but Outwaters was a complete waste of time and a test of my patience. Hated it.

I watched X and Barbarian.

X was OK, but very predictable. Actually nothing really interesting happens at all. Should I watch Pearl or is it similar?

Barbarian I loved! Just amazing start to finish. I'd recommend it to any horror fan.

I mean, we're still talking about it now?  I also thought it was an act, but it was 'of the time' and there's no law saying bad things can only happen to good people in films.

I hated her character and was actively rooting for her tp die, but my biggest issue was that scene with zero explanation towards to the end that came out fo noweher and had zero bearing on the story.

I enjoyed Pearl alot more, reminded me of Carrie type film. Plus I can never say no to Mia Goth, she's great.

I thought Barbarian, after a promising first section, was piss poor.

Do many of you watch the horror shorts, usually on You Tube etc?   Some are terrible, others are pretty great, but generally its easy to watch them regardless as the runtimes are so short.

Just watched Stuck, I mean... holy shit!!

STUCK
