Good new horror films

X is fantastic for the first quarter or third. Really, really great. Then it turns to a bog standard slasher that does nothing new or interesting.

If you really like slashers, that won't bother you and it's worth watching. If you want something that has new ideas or good directing... Hmmm. First section, yeah, totally. After that, nah.

I watched The Void. Some brilliant practical effects but I felt it could have gotten a lot weirder/darker. Probably been spoilt by Panatos Cosmatos.

The Void is full of promise but ultimately underwhelming, it’s heavily influenced by The Keep and The Thing and understands what makes these films great, but then doesn’t know what to do with that knowledge. Starts great, but the end is pointless.

Watched Deadstream the other night (Shudder). Very low budget to the point of being like a student film, but I honestly thought it was very entertaining.

Great mix of creepiness and comedy, it feels like a found footage version of The Evil Dead.

Completely agree on this. Falls apart massively in the final act.

Can I ask a favour - can anyone with a Shudder sub check to see if you can actually watch The Untamed?

On mine both Watch Now and Trailer both play...the trailer.

Mine too. I notice there's a "Watch free with a BFI player subscription" version, so maybe it's not actually on Shudder after all?

I've checked on my mobile through the Prime Video app, and it doesn't work there either.

Edit: Doesn't work on my LG TV or my Samsung TV either.

Goddamn it. I hadn't even heard of it and had no intention of ever watching it, and now I'm very annoyed that I can't watch it!

If I could, I probably wouldn't get round to it any time soon, but the fact that I'm unable to watch it this minute is a massive problem for some reason.

Welcome 🤠.  I've tried it on 3 TVs now (same account & UK IP) and it's not having it.  It's a bit grown up (apparently) but it lets me watch all the other dodgy stuff.

I'm currently on my third different customer service rep through Amazon chat to try to solve this.

None of them seem to understand the issue (I'm guessing English isn't their native language based on their responses) and keep telling me I can rent it for £2.49. When I tell them again that it's included with a Shudder subscription, I get asked to send a screenshot as proof to an email address. Then they say they'll look into it, and five minutes later another customer service rep takes over and we go through the whole dance again.

Edit: Just sent the screenshot again. I'm expecting to move on to my fourth rep in a few minutes. At which point I'll politely ask to be escalated to someone more senior.

@Tequlia Is it still broken for you?

Well, this is interesting.

In the end, it's been "resolved" by them giving me credit to buy the movie. But obviously that's not exactly fixing the problem, since it's not just me who's unable to watch it.

I did get escalated to a lead after, as predicted, being moved to a fourth customer service rep. The lead says that The Untamed is not available on Shudder, only on Arrow. I sent the screenshot AGAIN, pointing out that Amazon's website says it's available on Shudder.

I suspect the lead might be right - if I click on 'more purchase options' on the Untamed page, I get an option to start a subscription to Arrow (as well as rent and buy options). That doesn't happen with any other movie I can find on Shudder - if I click 'more purchase options' with any other movie, I just get rent and buy options.

It's possible this is the only movie that any two channels have in common, but that seems doubtful. @cassidy @Silent Runner do you have an Arrow sub?

Anyway, after some back and forth with me pointing out that the screenshot I sent shows I should be able to watch it, the lead said I needed to contact Shudder. I asked how, since I don't have a Shudder account, I just have a channel sub through Amazon. I then went to Shudder's website and looked at their FAQ, which says that if there's a problem with the Prime channel, it's nothing to do with them: everything goes through Amazon and you need to resolve it through Amazon's customer service. I sent a link to that FAQ answer to the lead rep, and that's when I got given credit to buy the film.

There's a new horror on the torrents called 'Snow Falls' which I first thought said 'Snow Fails'.

The synopsis is funny

Quote

After a winter storm strands five friends in a remote cabin with no power and little food, disorientation slowly claims their sanity as each of them succumbs to a fear that the snow itself may be contaminated or somehow evil.

It's got bad ratings but...I'm curious now.

Snow Falls and Sick are shit movies, avoid.

There's something wrong with the Children is OK, only partly due to the main adult leads but passable. Though I feel it's ripped off from the superior Here Comes the Devil.

I thought Sick was all right. Pretty standard home invasion stuff but the two women were good and acted sensibly instead of doing stupid stuff just to move the plot along. I was surprised when I saw Kevin Williamsons name on it though - didn't feel his influence at all. A solid 3/5 for me.

I'm definitely in the minority with Sick. Most people really enjoy it, it wasn't my cup of tea.

Can we get the name of this thread changed? I have years of horror to catch up having only recently gotten properly into horror.

This was recommended to me and it’s worth 3 mins of anyone’s time. I believe they made a full length feature from it in the end but it wasn’t as good.
