Oh, and I know this is a film thread, but I've got to give a shot out to Marianne. French series on Netflix and one of the creepiest things I've seen in a long time.

Yes, it's fucking terrifying. Be sure to switch to the original french voicetrack though.

Three from Hell

I thought it was horrible. It felt like a less inspired version of The Devil’s Rejects. The plot has tons of similarities to Rejects and does not compare favourably. Then again I'm not a huge Zombie fan so you're mileage may vary.

Anyone seen Ready or Not? It's getting strong write-ups but I don't think it's on iTunes yet.

I saw it at the cinema on Wednesday - meant to post or start a topic on it.

I thought it was really good. Hadn't seen the trailer and initially thought it was a straight up horror, but had some good laughs as well.

I’m half way through I’m enjoying. But I’ve predicted most of the beats.

its directed by Vincenzo Natali of Cube & Splice fame.

EDIT: This film fell off a massive cliff in its final act. Shame, was good the first two thirds.

Wasn't bad, wasn't great, kinda repetitive and boring IMO.

It reminded me how awesome and better Traingle is, another great horror film

Not a film but a series, Channel zero all four seasons are on Amazon Starzplay channel. If you haven't already tried that channel then you can probably get a 30 day trial or pay £4.99 sub instead.

I'm on the fourth season and it might be the best season of the bunch, only on episode one though, if not then I would say the third season is the best. The first season felt the weakest to me so if you don't get on with it then try another season out.

Just thought I'd post this here and let people know seeing as it's spooky month and all that.

Has anyone seen this yet?:

I was recommended it by a friend, and it seems to be reviewing well. Not your usual by-the-numbers teen slasher at least. From what I can tell, it’s about a ‘Halloween Horror Nights’-style horror house gone wrong.

Thought this was great. Put the mrs off going through the scaremaze at Alton Towers though

Well I'm 3/4 through watching Wounds and loving it's Burroughs, Cronenburgh, lovecraftian vibe.

Book is getting ordered ASAP.

Edit. Really liked that. Many will hate it.

I read the story a while ago. They didn’t expand well on the Dakota Johnson character and her obsession with the tunnel. The movie skipped a lot of the stuff with the mysterious books and the mythological stuff. Not that the story made a ton more sense in writing either. Overall it was okay but it was kind of disconnected.

I watched wounds yesterday. It was an interesting concept and build up but it just ends. The back story on the 'threat' was non-existant and I didn't really understand it. Lots of things happened for little reason. I might read the book after reading around the film.

Yup we watched Wounds last night, wondering what the fuck was going on and expecting it to explain itself by the end, but it just doesn't go anywhere

Hence the comparison to Burroughs and not just because “eww bugs”

I watched Eli last night, I thought it was really bad and the final act made me laugh out loud. Special effects were really poor and people just being stupid.

We watched it straight after Wounds. It may have coloured our perception.

I've seen The Long Grass, Wounds and Eli on Netflix. Eli was the best, but jesus the competition was low. Like if this was in cinemas people would just walk out. All of it is just meandering throw whatever scary imagery you can at the screen and hope it inspires dread. At least Eli's ghosts had some spooky movement to them (initally, by the third night I was kinda bored of them), but all of them have bad acting and are mostly boring.

Anyone seen The Nightingale yet? By the director of The Babadook but very different.

Apparently incredibly brutal, and had people walking out of the screening due it's very graphic depiction of rape and violence. I don't think it's strictly labelled as horror.

Yeah, it's not a horror by any normal measure, other than that some of the people in it are really fucking horrible to everyone. It's kind of got the shape of a rape revenge thing but it's more about abuse of power and violence begetting violence and all that. It's very good, very brutal and I'm glad I've seen it but I don't think I'll need to see it again any time soon.
