Tempted to go for the one off of the Hong Kong style for the Xbox one, as it's only £25 and £60 on the UK one.

Anyone else done this? It's 312hk$, but you can only seem to get 300 and 150 cards, which bumps the price up a bit.

Literally can't believe how people are reacting to the news that you have to replay some bits near the end of a game that people are proclaiming is one of the best of all time. Did you guys play GZ? It totally opens up once you start experimenting. One of my worries for the full game is that there wouldn't be as much scope for that due to me wanting to get through the whole thing. I like the idea the game makes you go back and play sections in certain ways. Even if I didn't I'd certainly be up for seeing how the whole thing's presented before deciding I was going to cancel my preorder.

It does sound odd that you have to repeat parts of the story before you are allowed the ending, no matter how enjoyable it is.

For a game whose genius appears to hinge on how many ways you can tackle missions, and how they evolve differently every time, it seems more odd how upset people are at being pushed to repeat a few. I'd even go so far as to say if replay and experimentation of tactics isn't for you maybe this game isn't for you.

And the fanboys are already leaping to the game's defence before it's even been played...

No, I'm just replying to comments I thought were a bit mad considering that the game is still earning perfect 10's and that Spankiller's saying it's not a problem. We've not seen the context around how they've set up the replaying of bits so we don't really know how it works.

Plus you're a Destiny fan (as am I), surely you can't be too mad at content stretching itself a little thin in places ;)

I don't think it's worth getting upset over. I'll most likely play missions over and over anyway, because I love games that offer real choice and emergent gameplay. But it's still odd. I'm guessing they're not exactly the same from a narrative perspective. There must be some reason which forms part of the story for why you have to go back and revisit those areas/missions.

Okay guys I've gone from zero to hype as fuck on this after finally getting my head around Ground Zeroes. To unlock stuff in Phantom Pain do you have to do everything in one playthrough of GZ?

I'd like to know this too. Do we know any specifics of what/how is unlocked in Phantom pain from GZ?

Whoa, everyone needs to chill. I was just reacting to facts that have been stated about the game. Many are perfectly happy with the news, whereas I am disappointed.

Yes, I said I was considering cancelling my pre-order, but that was also due to the comparisons to Peace Walker (which really did not get on with). I'm managing my expectations. I'm not cancelling as I pre-ordered at a n excellent price. I'm still looking forward to the game, and will be happy to be proven wrong. I've already said this.

Forget peace walker, have you played Ground Zeroes?

Play Ground Zeroes ffs.

I honestly don't get the faux outrage at replaying a mission on a harder difficulty to get the proper ending. It's pretty much a well established trope in gaming these days, except most games force you to play the whole thing on a harder difficulty or follow a set chain of events that are not usually apparent on the first run through. It sounds like Kojima has implement his own version of this, highlighted it to the player and offered a reward to fans who would usually go back and replay the whole thing anyway.

Guidance:

Actually play the game pre throwing toys out of pram.

EDIT: That's a bit of a dick post actually. I just thought it confused me people were getting annoyed by an aspect of the game we don't really know about in terms of context etc. Enjoy the game how you like!

Really enjoying GZ but fuck me it is hard as hell.

Any tips? When you knock someone down do they STAY down? Is it it better to tranq them?

Shoot them in the head.

Or, hold them up and order them to lie down. They won't get up then, bizarrely.

I don't understand why people feel the need to criticize how another enjoys his/her games. Please provide some guidance in order to enjoy them the proper way, thanks.

Because the criticism is leveled at an already established trope within games, that seeks to reward players who are happy to spend more time with the game. At this point you're arguing that you're unhappy Mario can jump. I have no issue with people having an opinion, but I feel perfectly entitled to point out the fallacies of that opinion if it seems to be based in knee-jerk derpism.

I didn't know that it was an established trope within games to force the player to repeat missions on higher difficulties before finishing the game in order to properly finish it.

It's an established trope that finishing a game on a higher difficulty or completing an obscure chain of an events unlocks a true/different ending for most games. Like say, Metal Gear Solid ... !

That's what this is, albeit in a pretty user friendly fashion. If you had to finish the game on a high difficulty no one would have cared. In fact most people would not have known. Which I think is the issue here, it's been presented in an visible way and people are losing their spaghetti.

Most games don't have a substantialy different ending like it's rumored here though. But anyway, I don't like this approach in games generally. I believe players should not be rewarded with more story when they finish something in higher difficulties. Skills, weapons, xp, sure. More story, no. But it is what it is and I am just sharing an opinion. It certainly won't make me not play the game or anything, especially since it looks like it is a true masterpiece.

How does the base invasion thing in this work? Can you actually sneak around other people's Mother Bases and steal their shit? And if you hear someone has invaded your base can you fly there and catch them?

Or have I totally misunderstood that aspect?

As I understand it it's their Forward Operating Bases you invade, not their Mother Base but the rest is spot on.

You invade and steal as much of their shit as you can and if you escape it's yours.

The 30min online vid up thread details it all; skip to the last 15mins or so to see an invasion in action. It looks AWESOME.

I've been choking them from behind but they don't seem to stay down?

if you walk up to them with a gun aimed at them and they don't notice you, you can hold them up and interrogate that way rather than CQC. one of the options is to "lie down" which once done they don't ever get back up unless spotted by a friend or an alert goes off
