Last delivery of 2020.... just the basic pledge level for this one, and it's plenty big enough.

No updates on Sands of Shurex, which I assume will now be re-submitted for delivery (to complicate matters the trove is being shipped independently from the US).

It's been a crazy KS ride - got some absolute beauties which I haven't seen widely available at retail, and a full delivery pipeline for Q1 and Q2 2021, but going forward I'll be cutting right back to just a few projects, preferably European sourced.

Anachrony finally completed its long journey yesterday. The packing box was huge, the wife had a hard time believing that this was 'just an expansion':

The original box was pretty big already, the new one is twice the size. Together they can eclipse a small child:

This week's job is to sort all the content from the two boxes into the fancy new trays. I can't be the only one who appreciates a good storage solution?

Sands of Shurex turned up this morning via Parcelforce, despite the initial bit being via DHL.  The price was marked down on the invoice to cover any possible charges, not that there was any evidence that anyone had looked to check.    Should be a cracking game - the series is going from strength to strength.

Actually "marking down" is probably inaccurate here.  After all there is no "list price" as such.  The designers (who spent all weekend preparing the invoices apparently) are at liberty to allocate KS funds as they wish, within reason.  They just have an overflowing tips jar from this part of the world.  I don't think I've ever received an invoice for any KS transaction to date - just despatch notices.

At present the sky high charges for shipping containers from China seems to be the biggest issue facing the industry.  Impossible to know how quickly things will return to reasonable levels. Bigger operations who are aiming to ship pre new year are swallowing the cost but I can see smaller ones being obliged to ask for more funding for this if it doesn't settle down soon thereafter.  Also, surely impossible to price shipping on new kickstarters which may be 15 months or more away from delivery.

Yeah, we were quoted $1800 for shipping a full container in September, in January it was $12,000. Luckily we don't need that much space, but our UK shipment has gone from around £400 to £1500. Hopefully things will settle down after the New Year.

Regarding Brexit, Eastern European productions will suffer, but the new VAT rules for foreign sellers will probably do more damage to smaller publishers. I wouldn't be surprised if some small indie publishers don't ship to the UK.

I've just had a note from Phalanx with news of further delays, but the key point is that a high proportion of the game (1941 Race to Moscow, (crawl more like)) is locally sourced so there should be no Brexit complications - seems common with Polish (and some other European sources) that printed material is locally produced and game assembly done on site.  They're going to redesign the board as a bonus for solo players for the additional delay from the Chinese components.

Others seem to have accepted the need to split the UK shipment from the EU one to at least get round the "in and out of the EU" issue.

In other news I saw sense over backing Primal - more the question of volume really.  It's crazy to contemplate delivery of several large boxes with 90% by volume comprising large grey plastic models, by which time various other large boxes should have been delivered.....

My mates have relaunched their game Theurgy on Kickstarter. Improved components, more artwork and stretch goals with group pledges now available which saves on shipping. It really is a great game. I hope they make it!

Some words from Jonathan Mariucci on why they are switching to Gamefound for Volume IV of the Hexplore it series.

Quote

But like all toolsets, sometimes those tools [KS]  need adjusting or tinkering. Having run three campaigns, and staying up so very late with you when our unlocks occurred, I can honestly say that my health takes a physical toll with each campaign I run. The lack of sleep and anxiety of it all is a bit overwhelming. Obviously in a largely good way, but it is certainly a thing.

We are switching to Gamefound because it has successfully launched several big products and has already implemented a ton of new features to help better manage a campaign.  Add-on management, automatic goal unlocks, and a built-in pledge manager are all new features I'm personally looking forward to. It includes features that content creators and backers have been asking Kickstarter for, for a very long time.

@womblingfreeI pledged for Theurgy again. I also hope it makes more of a splash this time. Did they manage to get any of the larger YouTube channels to cover it?

The one I posted and these are the only ones I’ve seen so far. It’s annoying that it’s so hard for small, first time designers to get their game onto things like SU&SD or Dice Tower as a preview on those pretty much guarantees funding. Also ironic when those reviewers are often complaining about giant, mega-hyped Kickstarters drowning in plastic tat. Like the ones they always review.

@womblingfreeTell them to get a copy or a message to Thinker Themer. They're a new YouTube channel but growing really fast and seem really nice. They do a kickstarter video regularly and seem to back a lot of kickstarters. One focuses on theme and the other on mechanisms and Theurgy seems to have lots of good ideas on both sides. It would be ideal for them to cover.

Just another thing to add here- as long as your game is not offensive and has a ready to play prototype (such as Theurgy) The Dice Tower will do a paid preview (expensive but worth it). If it's interesting, beautiful and different SU&SD will mention it on their blog, especially if it's progressive in some way, but because this isn't paid it's obviously harder to do.

Definitely tempted by Theurgy, looks awesome although would need the higher pledge for those awesome meeple monsters. I can't say I'm a huge area control fan but that looks fun and something I'd enjoy. I've added it to the watch list/favourite and will see what  funds I have to play with after the Everdell kickstarter next week, can see that being a very expensive one to get anything and everything new they put out.  Also have Tiny Epic Dungeons and Terraforming Mars Ares to cover when they fund and Red Rising preorders tomorrow. Expensive month for games!!

We have everything Everdell so far and will only need the 2 new expansions, I'm waiting to see what the big box solution will be as it can be a bit of a pain with the current main game and 3 expansion boxes so adding another 2 into the mix will be painful. I'm hoping a large box will hold everything and organise it properly.

We also have everything for it except the glimmergold pack, I have the legends and extra cards just not the rat meeples and metal coins. I'm hearing from various people that one of the two expansions (Not new leaf) is a big box and expansion in one! It's definitely up there among the most played and enjoyed in my collection so I'm super excited for the kickstarter and will no doubt go a little nuts on any extras they have to order (I fancy some of the prints and a wooden tree etc).

Everdell is a nice game - hugely overproduced, most of the expansions don’t add huge amounts to the game and the tree is best left in the box.
However it’s also easy to teach and play, has lovely art and doesn’t take too long to play.
I’ve got everything that’s been released so far and have paid way more than they are selling the “all in” pledge for so it’s a bargain in that regard.

Agree, it seems a huge amount to put out but that "all in" deal is such good value. I'd wager that even if you didn't like it you'd be able to sell it for what you pay. My friend backed Everdell when it first came on the scene, I played it and loved it and regretted missing out on it. I've backed all the others so far and really like the expansions, probably the most recent two better than pearlbrook but there will be a tonne of gameplay from that box for sure. It's up there in my top 5 for sure and I'd see other games move from that top 5 before everdell.

If you've got the cash to spare and don't mind the wait I'd go for it.
