About 20 masked people rushed the set of Lupin while they were filming and stole about €300,000 of equipment. This is not long after about £150,000 of props were stolen from The Crown.

 

I like the bit of the story about how some idiot in Italy tried to emulate Lupin and managed to steal €21 and a bottle of fizzy orange. But still failed because he injured himself and had to seek help.

Is 3 Days of the Condor good? A 70s Robert Redford movie that appears to be a paranoia espionage conspiracy thriller seems like it has potential. Seems to have just been added.

I watched that a few years ago when I was on a 70’s vibe. It fit in well with my watches of the French Connection films but I think it’s a bit slicker  
 

I remember it being a good thriller but there’s a bit where he meets the female lead in the film and it felt so dodgy/threatening by modern standards. I remember basically nothing else but apart from that it was a good watch.

Finished Inventing Anna so now off to 'fact check' it as suspect they made a load of it up.

 

It's a shame as the real story is incredibly compelling but the show they've made is too long, too soapy and the tone/mood is quite odd at times. Great source material then but the show itself is actually lightweight drivel.

It’s excellent. I listened to that ages ago and if that is factual, then Inventing Anna didn’t make up much of significance regarding her story…in fact I think they left some stuff that’s in the podcast out.

 

The podcast doesn’t really touch much on the reporter (if at all, I can’t really remember). I’m guessing most of the invented stuff is the surrounding colour and conversations.

Don't think it's at all the kind of content most here enjoy, but hell, a ton of my colleagues worked very hard on it and if I can get even one of you to watch it, I'm happy

Big fan of the US show, so I’ll definitely give this a go if it has the same trick of making me tear up in every damn episode! Is it the same in that there’s one expert that gives them a haircut, one that teaches them how to make pasta, one that buys them a few pairs of shoes, one that gives them a pep talk and one that BUILDS THEM AN ENTIRE GODDAMN HOUSE FROM SCRATCH?

Yup that's exactly it 🤣 I only saw bits and pieces of it in a work context, looking forward to watching it properly on Netflix now. I'm currently in the middle of the second episode 😊

I've been watching Inspector Koo recently, a South Korean detective thriller about a slobby drunken ex-cop and her motley crew of colleagues playing a game of cat and mouse with a young serial killer who claims only to kill bad people, and who makes her crimes look like terrible accidents. It's reminiscent of Death Note and what I saw of Killing Eve, full of comedic characters, increasingly convoluted plotlines and surreal flourishes.

 

Lee Young-Ae from Lady Vengeance plays the title role; she's great as the gluttonous, MMO-addicted inspector and the entire cast seem to be having so much fun that it's very easy to get swept along by the (mostly implausible) madness. The whole story is wrapped up nicely by the end too, although the very final scene is bafflingly bizarre. Great entertainment!

I've been watching a lot of Korean shows recently, some of them just nice character pieces with no serial killers, zombies, or big evil bad guys in sight. If you need something that'll make you feel mostly happy, sometimes a little sad, but always ending on a positive note I can recommend Our Beloved Summer. "Years after filming a viral documentary in high school, two former lovers get pulled back in front of the camera and into each other's lives." The banter between the leads and how they're drawn back together is a lot of fun, plus the secondary characters and parents are great too.

I'm also currently enjoying two ongoing series. First there's Twenty-Five, Twenty One. "In a time when dreams seem out of reach, a teenage fencer pursues big ambitions and meets a hardworking young man who seeks to rebuild his life." Set at the end of the 90's, it's kind of making me feel old with how it makes '98/99 feel 'retro', however. The leading lady here is fantastic as a super passionate, hard working, but frustrated teenage fencer struggling to keep fencing. It's sometimes funny, sometimes heart breaking, but always really engaging.

 

Then there's Business Proposal. It's here to meet all your old rom-com needs. "In disguise as her friend, Ha-ri shows up to a blind date to scare him away. But plans go awry when he turns out to be her CEO — and makes a proposal." Yes, that's right, it's one of those ridiculous set ups that somehow works when they lean into the comedy and absurdity of the situation. 4 episodes in and I'm really enjoying it.

Yeah!  I was going to reply to say it's an absolute cracker.  We watched it over the weekend as it's a favourite film of my missus too.  The setup at the start is brilliant.  But, yeah, that bit where he takes Faye Dunaway back to her flat is very rapey by today's standards, and I didn't buy her falling in love with him as a result.

It's good really, as it shows how much society has changed that these scenes stood out as really uncomfortable to me watching it today, whereas I doubt they would have been worthy of comment either on original release, or all the times it had been shown on TV in the 80s and 90s.

Given the rather lacklustre amount of 4k content on there, this is pretty shit.

 

I'll probably just downgrade to HD at this point for Netflix. Still watch it enough alongside Disney+ and Amazon, but the quality of its programming is mixed. It's almost all straight-to-video film fodder, but it does have some great series on there.

Yeah I'm thinking of cancelling mine, at least for a while to let some decent content build up.  I think that's the way forward with all the streamers now - sub to one for a couple of months, rinse, quit, cycle to the next, and round again.

The ZOO TV years would be genuinely fascinating, everything before and after can get fucked. That '91-93 period was when U2 were genuinely interesting.

I just watched Windfall has anyone else watched it can you explain..why. The One I Love, the director's previous film before the Discovery..one of the best surprises I've ever had, ingenious film. Also set in a house. So I watched Windfall thinking there has got to be a twist, some other idea. Even just the opening is so clumsy and unexplained I spent the whole film distracted by it. The film is so unexplainable even Jesse Plemons was interesting in it after getting bored of him bringing nothing to one role after another. He's nowhere near the intensity and focus of Phillip Seymour Hoffman, the comparison always made. But when given a bit more here he grabs it. There's still a kind of relaxed casualness though that worked so much more in Breaking Bad because of who he played. When he's just a nice guy I find him nothing.

Yep, though Netflix has been the one most likely to stay all the time.
